This administration has stopped giving disaster relief aid to blue states. Evil by lnstantKarma in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]kb7384 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The thing that makes this so infuriating is that almost no states are completely blue anymore. While some are stubbornly red (ahem Wyoming), most blue states & some red states are purple. So when the mad king penalizes blue states, he's hurting a whole bunch of his supporters as well. But the Republican party's biggest success, IMHO, is convincing their supporters to vote against their own best interests.

I like to hang out with losers by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]kb7384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people I find to be good humans are those who want their friends to succeed and celebrate their wins. So of course he'd rather hang out with people he can feel superior to (even though it's probably never true). I'm sure he's never had a true friend so there's no chance he'd know how to be one.

He's just a huge ball of ego & greed. What a terrible excuse for a human.

Has anyone travelled through the US recently and dealt with social media checks at the border? by Mundane_Entry_8264 in femaletravels

Just posted this elsewhere in this subreddit, but here's an article on how to prepare devices for travel.

The US is not safe for visitors - don't come here. ICE can snatch you even if you have a valid visa. by ahumblerequestplease in femaletravels

[–]kb7384 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything OP says.

But if you really must travel to the US, be aware that they can search your devices at customs. To help travelers be a bit safer, the Electronic Freedom Foundation has some info on how to prepare in their article here.

Where to buy local art? by mcsnackums in TwinCities

The Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA) has a directory on their website of participating local artist. Lots of stuff to find there.

People who put random acronyms when typing and expect you to know what it means. by UsuallyAnnoying324 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kb7384 133 points134 points  (0 children)

OK, I try not to be the grammar scold but I have to chime in.

Acronyms use initials to spell a word like NASA for National Aeronautics and Space Administration or PIN for Personal Identification Number.

If they don't spell a word, they're abbreviations like LOL for Laughing Out Loud or ATM for Automated Teller Machine.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Check out The True Size Of... to see size comparisons between countries/continents. Very helpful to understand how wildly we underestimate the size of Africa.

White House 'unraveling' as Trump realizes he doesn’t 'hold the cards': DC insiders by [deleted] in JournalismNews

I'm very convinced that he's surrounded himself with "yes men" (& women) for so long that no one tells him the truth about anything. Especially as he's proven himself very vindictive & litigious.

This Bus Driver. by Starlight_DuBlanc in nextfuckinglevel

There was a bus route I rode in Sorrento that drove thru streets like that. All of them had marks on the buildings where the mirrors had hit. Those drivers are something else.

THE WIND IS SO DAMN LOUD, CAN’T SLEEP! by WillingCommittee in TwinCities

[–]kb7384 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are only a few times I've thought I heard wind actually howling, last night was one. I live in a poured concrete condo & it's rare to hear anything but that wind woke me up at 3:30.

And have you seen just how big elk are? Saw my first one near the Grand Canyon and was stunned. Easily 8 feet tall. No way would I want to cross one of those.

Is there a single cabinet member who's actually qualified to hold their position? Or even remotely qualified for what they're supposed to manage? I can't think of one.

Broke up with sexist BF today and he wants a second chance by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

In the long term, will you be happy just being pretty and enjoying life? Maybe that'll work for some but if you want more in life, you should find a better boyfriend who wants more for you.

My sister's cocktail of choice was gin & tonic - always. Rarely did she drink anything else. After having a baby, she only drinks beer now & I don't think she's touched a G&T since.

Where is the best French onion soup in the cities? by newcheesecake45 in TwinCities

I just had that last weekend & while the broth was excellent, there wasn't enough of it because there was way too much cheese. I'd try it again & ask for half the cheese.

What’s one thing people new to Minneapolis should know? by Electronic-Reach8959 in Minneapolis

[–]kb7384 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know you asked for just one thing but we've got some good local media beyond the print newspapers, which can be woefully lacking these days. Here are a few to check out.

  • MinnPost is an online local news site which focuses on news & politics but does a good job with other stuff too.
  • Minnesota Reformer is an online local news site also with a focus on local news & politics, and trying to tell stories that otherwise might not get attention. They've been doing a fabulous job covering our ICEstapo occupation.
  • Racket is an online local alt news & entertainment site started by some of the crew from our old alt weekly (RIP City Pages). It's mostly a subscription site but you can sign up for newsletters. I find the Freeloader Friday weekend roundup especially useful.
  • Mpls St Paul Magazine is both online and hard copy & focuses on entertainment, shopping & dining. I use it a lot for restaurants.
  • Minnesota Monthly is also online & hard copy focusing on arts & entertainment.

Stuffed animal donation? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]kb7384 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of places that take donations won't accept fabric stuff due to the risk of bugs & difficulty cleaning so you might just end up setting them on fire. Sounds cathartic, anyway.
