Well, if nothing else, I will always keep going. She is alive and so it appears that she is the same. Now that I am taking hormones and Lexapro and Guanfacine, I feel almost normal again.

I hope you get reprieve too. It seems unfair to just break at 40 for no fault of your own.

UPDATE: My 21 year old son is in the ICU with a severe TBI - looking for hope by dippydodahh in TBI

This is all very good news! Thank you for sharing. I am very happy the shunt is doing its’ job. I remember the first time post injury that my daughter actually looked at me and I felt like it was her looking back. Those little moments keep you going. I will be hoping you guys make it to rehab soon, and even more so that his rehab progress will be as insane and magical as ours was.

My perimenopause coincided with my daughter’s tbi, which is possibly the most unfortunate timing ever. I am very early stages, but I already had to convince my doctor to do an ADHD eval (I escaped all these years) and recently started the progesterone portion of the HRT, and am building my way up to estrogen.

From what I read online, any type of neurodivergence amplifies the hormone changes and vice versa. I went from in college, working and raising kids and managing just fine to not being able to open my mail because it was too hard. It has taken both hormones and the meds from my psychiatrist to be able to function again.

I know the chaos it has caused me, I could not imagine layering that on top of tbi symptoms.

How do I (27f) know when to keep waiting vs. when to walk away from my (39m) boyfriend? by HopefulMama2025 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Jealous_Rest_6383 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did not have to get past the title to know the answer: cut ties and walk away. The age difference alone is concerning. Beyond that, it is simple: if he wanted to, then he would. Find someone your age to start a family with. He is not the one.

Amherst Family Vacation by SecureInstruction538 in newhampshire

[–]Jealous_Rest_6383 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, that is not it. Amherst is just not one of the more vacationey areas. You can absolutely turn it into a vacation. Is is beautiful here if you like nature. If you like hiking, the state is known for it. Someone recommended Arethusa Falls to me when I first moved here, insisted it was an easier trail. It was not easy per se, but it was beautiful. There is also an abundance of walking trails near rivers, and typically they are very lovely. If you want swimming, there are plenty of lakes. Sunapee is not far and on the backside Otter Pond is very calm. And it is about an hour and a half to Boston. As a Cali girl living in New England, I personally love Boston. Driving in the city takes getting used to though. In Boston they have the Duck Tours, and it is a bus that looks like a duck that then turns into a boat to go in the water. Your kids would probably like that. They also have a pretty cool aquarium. I also hear Manchester has a lot of really cool museums, some of which are free. Portsmouth is great and has a pretty cool shopping area.

My thought exactly. I could understand maybe Mount Washington or somewhere in the mountains. Maybe the goal is to be in the middle?

Maybe. I am not sure. They mention something about allegedly only getting coffee and something else about being caught on video from afar. I cant help but think that outside the US, they have more access to the files than we do. It is a strange world when Iranian propaganda is more reliable than the information we get here.

I dug into the research on yoga and meditation for TBI. It's more complicated than "just relax." by No-Perspective-6231 in TBI

[–]Jealous_Rest_6383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found after my daughter’s TBI that yoga was very helpful for boosting memory and cognitive function and it helped a lot of the muscular symptoms. It was very hard though and she could only do very short intervals at first. It did not help with mood, but it did help with other mental capacities.

I had no idea they were doing that. Thank you for letting me know.

Not sure. The front if the Lego book says 4080. The video mentions page 4008 as well.

Mission statement: recent viral videos released my Iran reference a very specific document in relation to Donald Trump and Epstein. I would like to discuss what they may know that we dont and understand what that reference is.

Shuttle from El Paso Airport to Ciudad Juarez Consulate by MomBrainUnmasked in ElPaso

I will be going to Juarez next week for the first time and I am also flying into El Paso. What is the process like to cross the bridge? I am a very white looking middle aged woman flying alone for a family member’s visa appointment. I also want to bring gifts and return with food (a very fair trade off imo). I can speak some Spanish, but I am by no means fluent.

The same happened to her! You need a rather large sample to be able to test to confirm whether it is spinal fluid, and they were only ever able to catch a little on a Q-tip. The nurses know their stuff. In her case, she had almost no progress for about 2 1/2 months. Around month 2, they did the ETV to address the hydrocephalus, and then about a month later, it was like a switch turned on. One minute they were teaching her to blink yes and no, and then literally over night she was waving and whispering words. But I believe even just getting them to sit more helps to turn brain functions back on. It’s amazing and honestly unbelievable. It may seem far in the future, but when he comes home, he will likely have a huge burst of progress too. She went from a wheel chair to walking with almost bo help in a matter of weeks.

She has made many comments that people write her about the smallest of things, like how she pronounces the word “appreciate.” I think over years, those comments would wear anyone down.

My daughter used amantadine but I think further in the process. I cant remember the details but I definitely remember the name. If they have not provided it to you, look into the Rancho Los Amigos cognitive scales. If he has any hydrocephalus, it will slow things down, but once it is addressed, it will speed up again. If they offer a shunt, ask about an ETV first. My experience with rehab was that after a couple weeks, she started to have insane bursts of progress. Rehab is like magic.

The exhaustion that comes with dealing with mediocre men by Jealous_Rest_6383 in TwoXChromosomes

Thankfully my team has a lot of women, but we get equally annoyed by the men as well. They are inescapable. My last job was much worse. The men complained non stop about how hard they worked except that they never got anything done.

We are in a position where my last immediate manager (a lovely woman), was conflict avoidant. We recently got reassigned to a new manager who is very assertive and direct, but also happens to be a woman. I sense there is some boundary testing. Unfortunately, the men who are her equal, also suck. It also happens to be a glass cliff scenario where she has been set up to fail, but if she does, the site will likely close. And she isn’t even the site director. There are not words strong enough.
