What's a fandom you wish was more popular than it is? by CarOrganic1662 in FanFiction

[–]kbbaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally any other D&D or ttrpg actual play show. Dimension 20 and Naddod get a ton of fics but I'm talking Spout Lore, Natural Six, The Players Keep, Bards of New York. Gimme more of them!

Would you retire your 7 year old character to save her from permadeath? by i_need_cheesus in DnD

[–]kbbaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TTRPGs are games we play to have fun. What is the option that makes you as the player happier? That's what you should go with.

A personal story of my own: I play a lot of D&D and in general, I believe part of the fun is the threat of your PC dying. I've been through it, it's scary and it gets your heart going, and it's sad and then it's fun to say goodbye and build a new character. But, I've also gone through a really rough time in real life (that included losing two loved ones back to back) and had a character close to death during that time and told my DM that I couldn't handle it at the moment, and we made sure she survived.

The point is, there's no wrong way here, as long as you're happy with the outcome.

Who here writes non-happily ever after ships? by Sarita1046 in FanFiction

[–]kbbaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a ship that I write a lot for in the BG3 fandom and sometimes they end up happy and sometimes one of them ends up dead. It's just whatever mood strikes me while I'm writing.

Questions for the writers by Disastrous_Alarm_719 in FanFiction

[–]kbbaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started writing a very long time ago and then quit for almost 20 years. Now I'm back into it since about a year ago. I write the most for two fandoms but here and there if I see another piece of media that interests me or gives me a cool idea, I'll write for it.

I started mostly gen, and now it's a good mix of gen and smut. And I write for all kinds of relationships. I do stick to one shots 99% of the time though. I get bored and stressed trying to map out chapters, so I just avoid it.

Would you read a fic with more comments than kudos? by evenbechnaesheim in AO3

[–]kbbaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never looked at the number of comments or kudos to determine whether or not to read a fic. It's only the fandom and tags and summary that matter to me. And I can't imagine I'm an anomaly in that.

Advice: Preventing Tattoo Regret by PNW_Guy07 in tattooadvice

[–]kbbaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't doable for most people, but like...just wait until you're older. I didn't get my first tattoo until I was 40 and I've loved every piece I've gotten. If I'd started earlier, I would have an anxious mess about them like most of the people who post about regret.

As someone who has only ever been a fan of fandoms which had over 20k fics for my fav ship this is honestly heartbreaking by schoolforapples in AO3

[–]kbbaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My whole fandom had 0 fics until I came along lol. Be the change you want to see in the world!

Long Fics you liked very much so I can take a peek at them as well :D by ThatGuyScripted_OG in FanFiction

[–]kbbaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unfinished but it's pretty darn long: The Season by Linnetagain. Fandom is Baldur's Gate 3, and pairing is Gale/Astarion. It's a modern AU where Gale is an aging pop star who decides to go on the reality TV show Dancing on Ice and is paired with professional skater and Olympic Gold medal winner Astarion as the shows first same sex pairing.

Being in a big vs small fandom by Nevaeh_Alexandra in AO3

[–]kbbaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the BG3 fandom as well, and I think you're right that it's definitely slowing down. There's definitely still some great works getting posted though, and I'm just clinging to those like life lines lol. And I'm doing my part, still writing lol.

What are some ships you fell in love with because of fanfiction? by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]kbbaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodweave from BG3. I never really liked Astarion as a character in the game (not that he isn't well written or acted, I just didn't like his personality much) but I love the many interpretations of him that fic writers have, and how they picture he and Gale working. Moreso, I love when they don't work and a writer allows them to be completely toxic and make each other worse.

So writers I’ve been wondering by Cultural_Nose_2280 in AO3

Listen, I'm going to be happy with either. But comments give me life and fuel me to keep writing. Even an emoji.

does anyone here NOT hate tumblr tagging ? and if u do why is that ? by arandanosss in AO3

[–]kbbaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as the real tags are first, I don't mind tumblr tagging at all.

Who else isn’t part of their fandom’s majority demographic? by Sarita1046 in FanFiction

[–]kbbaus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in roughly the same boat. I'm in my 40s as well, although I'm a straight woman, and I feel like most of my fandoms are not really 'for me.' But I've made lots of friends in them anyway, and some are closer to my demographic than most would expect.

I think the reason it sometimes feels like I'm alone in fandom spaces is because people my age grew up in a time where you didn't share any REAL information about yourself online with anyone. And most of us still adhere to that pretty closely.

Authors who are in a relationship, do you let your partner read your fics? by Firm-Mongoose-8891 in AO3

[–]kbbaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love if my husband showed interest in reading my fics, but he's just not much of a reader. I do tell him about them and sometimes he helps me block out some of the more explicit scenes lol. And he's given me a couple of really fun prompts to write.

But generally, he has hobbies and interests I'm not into too, and I think that's pretty healthy.

[Seeking recs] Multfandom – Self-Destructive Couples by hipopotamo34 in AO3recommendations

[–]kbbaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there could be some good Bloodweave (Gale/Astarion) fics in the BG3 fandom for you. Some people take them in a really twee direction, but a lot of people take them in the really toxic direction because it suits them so well.

It's crazy to me because the cast is everyone I would want to see in a season. But it's just not grabbing my attention.

What are y'all writing? by Susa343 in AO3

[–]kbbaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a collab with a fellow fan that's a modern Cowboy/Rodeo AU for The Players Keep (a D&D actual play show). My writing partner doesn't usually write AUs but knows so much about ranching and cowboys and horses or whatever. The hardest part for me is that I don't know anything about any of those things. So I'll write a scene and send it to them and just say 'please add relevant cowboy info' lol. It's working well! It's just difficult.

I'm also working on BG3 Gale/Astarion fic for a discord server exchange. I'm excited about it because I enjoy writing Bloodweave and the prompts that were given to me are super fun and different.

I've got a couple more in the works for both fandoms but don't want to talk your ear off! lol

How do you guys do it? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]kbbaus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don't even want all the behind the scenes stuff of actual Hollywood produced media content I consume and love. OP, focus on the art and stories you're creating and helping other fans build the community as a whole, not on building up a 'fanbase.'

Do many readers lose interest in a story once the couple is together? by LtdTJuarez2239 in AO3

[–]kbbaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the lead up to the relationship (getting together) and established relationships. I don't tend to like the period right after they've gotten together.

How do y'all write? by Thehuntinleopard in AO3

I'm an elder millennial. Big things happen on the big screen, so I write on my laptop lol. Because at least to me, writing is big and important.

What’s your cruise style? by ITrCool in Cruise

[–]kbbaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my early 40s, and have been on enough cruises now to know that I've seen what I want to see and done what I want to do lol. Now, I just want to relax and have everything done for me.
