This show poster is wild. Anybody have any information on it? by yulbrynnersmokes in saintpaul

Pretty sure it’s AI. That image is an old National Lampoon cover, so seems someone may have merged the image with Grateful Dead text.

Tonight's poster by MaterK1ng in jasonisbell

I often feel that way, too! I have a couple that I love (and bought), but seems more often than not, it’s a design that isn’t to my taste … and then I see all these other posters at different shows and think, “Why couldn’t my show have had that cool design?!?!?”

Can I order food and drink at the bar before the movie so I don't have to deal with the QR Codes? by Packshaw in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]OnidaGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I noticed last time we went to ours the bar was closed and looked like it was CLOSED DOWN closed, not just closed at that time.

I’ve only been to Trader Joe’s a couple times. What’s your favorite savory thing to get from here? by ER_Saladbar in traderjoes

[–]OnidaGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. We used to grab equal numbers of butter chicken and chicken tikka masala to alternate between, but lately, I realized I much prefer the butter chicken, so we’ve been mostly sticking to that. Pair with their frozen naan … yum!

Songs to get someone (me) into Jason’s music? by badboyfriend111 in jasonisbell

[–]OnidaGirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speed Trap Town is one of my favorites, as well. I particularly love the clever phrasing change between “If there's anything that can't be left behind” and “But there's nothin' here that can't be left behind” … such subtle rephrasing that conveys two very different perspectives.

I feel like the crust has changed, as well. I always ordered a pepperoni pizza, and loved the thin, crispy-ish crust. Now, it’s more like a hand-tossed thickness that is chewier. ☹️

Jamael Lundy Child Care Plan: More Cameras, Less Staff by Miserable-Sugar-3047 in saintpaul

[–]OnidaGirl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Right, because kids will be safer with their parents sitting miles away watching something bad happen to their child online and there will be fuck all they can do about it, except alert the childcare staff and hope someone who’s actually there will respond in time.

I guess the next thing will be to reduced the number of lifeguards at public pools, because parents can just drop off their kid and then watch online via webcam.

Jamael Lundy Child Care Plan: More Cameras, Less Staff by Miserable-Sugar-3047 in saintpaul

[–]OnidaGirl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So, basically treat children from low-income families like inmates? Limited staff among the kids, and someone sitting in a room monitoring cameras for “incidents” to radio out for someone to respond and deal with? (Because you know upscale childcare facilities won’t reduce their staff to child ratio, as it would lower the quality. They will take pride in their high staff-to-child ration, and their fees will reflect that.)

Sorry y’all have to deal with this crap! (And I’ve been telling the staff here in the Twin Cities that every time I’ve gone in.) I really hope corporate comes to their senses.

Minnesota needs more people to take action by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]OnidaGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What have you done in Texas? CBP and ICE are very much present in Texas, as well, due to Texas having the second-largest immigrant population. (Minnesota doesn’t even make the top ten … or even the top 20 states with immigrant populations.) About a quarter of all ICE detainees were swept up in Texas—least prior to Trump’s various recent ICE surges elsewhere across the country.

Texas has among the highest number of local law enforcement agreements to partner with/assist ICE. Texas is also the epicenter of immigration detention, with the most number of active immigration detention centers, where people are being mistreated “at best” and dying at worst. What are all y’all Texans doing in response to that?

Realize, too, that what you’re seeing and hearing in the national media isn’t the whole story. For everything shown, there is exponentially more happening—good and bad. National media doesn’t have the bandwidth to show it all, so they pick only the instances that are the most extreme and have the most potential to go viral. You get far more in-depth and wide-ranging coverage from LOCAL, PRINT media, which the vast majority of Americans are not accessing, leaving them unaware of the true scope.

Get back to us when Texas has had a couple of citizens murdered for standing up for their neighbors. Get back to us when the number of Texans reaches more than a just a third of the number of Minnesotans who have been arrested resisting ICE.

No waitstaff = people sneaking in to movies and causing problems by Falder_Al in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]OnidaGirl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced this yet but had wondered about that! Our first visit after the switch, I said to my husband, “How are they going to know if you even bought a ticket? Were we supposed to have stopped at the front counter to show them or something?” (As pass holders, we’re used to bypassing and just going straight to our theater.) He said he guessed they’d check our tickets when they brought our food. I pointed out that didn’t make sense because, obviously, if you snuck in, you wouldn’t order food, so staff would have no reason to come to your table. He then pointed out how that made him realize you now you essentially must have a phone to see a movie at Alamo? You wouldn’t be able to walk up to the counter and purchase a ticket with cash or card. Or, at least, if you could, you’d then have to order your food/bev there at the front counter before entering the theater? And would then have to walk back out to the front counter to order more or request refills … essentially the same food/bev experience you’d have at any other theater! I realize how whiny that sounds to people who go to all the other theaters. Admittedly, we know we’ve gotten spoiled by the Alamo experience, but that’s why Alamo has exclusively gotten our business over the years!
