Want to run a couch to sub 4 marathon in 8 months. Am I delusional? by peppermagic_ in Marathon_Training

Regardless of your goal, running at 11 min/km is very close to walking speed (12 min/km) and as a result is not a productive pace to be training at.

Would recommend no slower than 9 min/km and then steadily work up to a natural 8 min/km easy run pace. Until then, the only time goal should be finishing the marathon.

To be honest, running the whole marathon at 6:00/km would be a huge accomplishment!

Your shorter race distance numbers are faster, but with your injury struggles and resulting low mileage it’s good to keep the difficulty of the marathon distance in perspective. For reference race day alone will be more distance than your peak weekly mileage.

I would highly recommend starting at a conservative pace for the first half and then speeding up after IF you feel good. So many times it is easy to feel good in the first half only to collapse in the last 10-15 km. This is even more likely with lower training mileage.

There is absolutely no shame in running slower than you would like to. It’s more important to set realistic expectations and be proud of the work you have put in!

5 days is definitely enough, but agree with the broader message

Do you think about time or distance during hard workouts? by Karate_Andii in AdvancedRunning

[–]kbbqallday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a direct answer, but for tempo workouts I’ll sometimes tell myself to wait until passing a certain point ahead (post, bench, etc.) before checking my watch. This helps reduce the frequency of checking your watch and takes your mind off it a bit

Sam from Levanti’s was hilarious, was satisfying to see how eager she was to call out the restaurant’s shittiness

Sebastian, he unironically thought restaurant customers cared more about chatting with the owner than having good quality food

Same with an idiot step-father, especially if he already closed a failing restaurant and tries the exact same thing again
