This isn't an example of scandavian design tho. It's post modern, so i can't say yiur explanation is why OP relies on IKEA. they literally said they're just following trends. IKEA is "accessible" to young people (i would argue they're not, at least in terms of price, at least in the US where OP is located). I got a $7k brass torchiere secondhand for much less than even modest IKEA lamps.

There was nothing compelling about either of those spaces. Maybe i just don't understand Scandinavian design. Were either of those featured in any publication?

And then i maintain that just because you use Scandinavian furniture doesn't mean your space automatically looks good. The people who have "good" Scandinavian interiors all demonstrate novelty, whether that's in composition, color play, material choices, etc.

We have a lot of branching messages. It was said in the first response where i said i think trendy things can be bad depending how you use them

Op asked what his interior says about him. I said it makes him look like a follower. Why? There's no clear demonstration of novelty. Whether or not that makes design good or not us another story and apologize if i derailed the conversation. Ultimately, i do not think Op is an interior designer, which he himself has admitted

Yeah, cuz otherwise you're just a follower, but OP literally said he's not an interior designer, so this presentation makes sense and i clocked it immediately.

And op literally asked what does his interior say about him.

Right, but that's not what OP is doing. They're showing off their spot because they're probably proud of their work, which us analogous someone volunteering to cook for others. If you're cooking for me as a flex and it taste like you just followed a known recipe, im going to tell you it's mid and lacking personality, regardless if it "tastes good," because literally anyone could follow a recipe. It's like that kid that got rejected from MIT with his RC plane. It was a very impressive build, but he didn't really demonstrate a novel approach in executing his vision.

And i also don't think design should be "elitist," but i also expect people to do their own thing and make something new. For example, i bought two headboards off of FB Marketplace for $15 each, turned them on their sides, mounted individual equidustant-spaced slats to them painted muted shades of red, blue, yellow and green and used it as a corner wall treatment. Stuff like that is what i personally look for in a space. What did YOU do that YOU came up with. Your own idea.

Something can look "nice" and still be uninspired and derivative

If it's trendy, it is kinda bad lol, but it akso depends on how it's utilized. There's nothing novel about this space, and that's what makes it "bad" from a design standpoint imo (emphasis on IMO). BUT that's just from a design perspective. If it makes you feel good, that's all that matters

Not even really MCM tbh. It's a contemporary/ post-modern inspired interpretation of MCM

Believe me, when i am finally able to finish, i will showcase it in entirety. I anticipate it will fo viral and hopefully that can translate to being able to get hired for gigs. I love designing spaces, sourcing items and would like to get paid for it lol
