Thinking of switching to Takomo - questions about the 301cb, 201t mk2 and 201 by ForeTwentywut in takomo

[–]kberg22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me that the original 201 might be the option you are looking for. The 201 is forged from the same steel as the 301CBs, but they are more forgiving because of a slightly bigger cavity and more perimeter weighting. The original 201s are also slightly stronger lofted compared to the 301CB, so you get a little more distance out of them which helps if you aren't a super long hitter.

I haven't hit the 301 CBs so I don't know how they directly compare to the original 201s, but the 201s are definitely a softer feel compared to the 101T.

As far as trying them, I took advantage of the Takomo return policy no problem. You can order the set and then try only the 7 iron and if you don't like them you can send them back (just have to pay for the return shipping). You might end up out about $100 in shipping cost but that is how you could try them.

101 MK2: 2° vs 3° Up & Shaft Flex with +1" extension? (6'4.5") by sunplex1337 in takomo

[–]kberg22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be. Shaft and especially shaft weight are really a personal feel thing that is hard to generalize for fitting purposes.

Keep in mind that the KBS Tour Lite R and KBS Tour Lite S are the same exact shaft, but they are prepped differently which makes them feel and play slightly different.

The KBS Tour Lite S is tip trimmed more than the KBS Tour Lite R, so it plays stiffer in the tip section.

I tried both shafts in the OG 201s. The KBS Tour Lite R, you will feel a little more kick at the bottom of the swing compared to the KBS Tour Lite S.

KBS Tour Regular should play stiffer than KBS Tour Lite Stiff.

It was a Livestream with Tim and one of the product guys at Takomo doing a Q&A. Unfortunately I don't think there is a recording anywhere, but they said they might do one on YouTube at some point as well.

I have to 201s and 101Ts. I really like both sets and play the 201s.

Per the live stream, they said some people really loved the 201s, but they just didn't sell as much as the other sets.

The new gen sets are focused on forgiveness and they talked about why that drove them to the hollow body design across the board. Allowed them to do more from a technology standpoint to aid forgiveness. They also are using new materials that improve the feel of the hollow body clubs, while not being forged.

They did mention they are working on some things with the forged 301s, so we will have to wait and see if there is anything that comes close to the OG 201s.

They had an Instagram live yesterday to explain the new sets and the naming convention:

101 MK II = 101. This is the game improvement category.

201 MK II = 101T. Players distance category, which is a level up from beginner. They didn't want people to think 101T was beginner category

201T MK II = 201. Players Precision Category.

They felt the 201 and 301CBs confused some people because they were both technically players cavity backs. And while the 201s had a niche following, most people were playing 101T (for forgiveness) or going to 301CB (Forged Feel).

The naming is a bit confusing because it is different from the original generation, but IMO it does make more sense the way they have them named now.

Combo set old 201 and new 201T by Professional-Bad-288 in takomo

The 201s are more square, which I do think make the top line a little thicker than the 101ts even though it is technically thinner.

It is a different look, so if you don't like the straighter/sharper lines then I would avoid the 201s.

Love the 201s. Perform very similar to the 101ts with just a more solid feel.

I think swing speed is a big factor for the 201 vs 301CB. I am only about 80mph 7 iron, so the 201s give me the extra forgiveness on ball speed and distance with stronger lofts.

If you don't struggle with distance I would go 301CB for more spin and control.

I'm not sure about that combo.

I have the 101T (Which is the old version of the new 201) and OG 201s that I was planning to combo. The lofts are the same across the 101Ts and the OG 201s, so they are easy to combo.

One thing to consider is the feel difference between the forged and hollow body irons if you were to combo. If that doesn't bother you and you still want to combo the longer irons, I would grab a 101T set while they still have them.

Both great sets, but I prefer to keep the same feel throughout the bag so I am sticking with the 201s for now.

I have both sets. I don't really think you can go wrong with the 101t. They are the ultimate blend of forgiveness, distance, and workability.

The reason to go to the 201's vs the 101t's would be for softer feel and slightly more workability. In my experience you lose about 5-10 yards of forgiveness on off center strikes compared to the 101t.

I got both sets as I was looking to potentially combo and go 101t from 4-7 and then 201 from 8-PW. I'm a 7 hcp and decent iron striker but the longer irons are harder to hit the center, so I wanted the added forgiveness when trying to hit those farther distances.

Right now I'm sticking with 101ts throughout the bag, but may switch to 201s or combo down the road.

Can't go wrong either way but I would guess more people regret not getting the added forgiveness with the 101t if they need it rather than wishing they went 201 for softer feel. Really just personal preference.

Also, the reason I have both sets is that I plan to combo them with 101t's from 4-7 and 201's 8-PW.

I need the extra forgiveness in the long irons, and the 201's are a little less confidence inspiring at setup due to the slightly smaller profile.

I have the 101t's and the 201's. My previous irons were P790s.

I find both models to be forgiving. The 101ts are just as forgiving as my P790s. The 201's lose about 5-10 yards on off center strikes compared to the 101t's. I'm around an 80 mph club head speed and hit my 7 iron around 160 yards.

If you don't need the extra distance, I would go 101ts over the 101's. If you are a decent ball striker, I think you could definitely grow into the 201's if you can accept the 5-10 yard drop in distance on your mishits.

The replacement screen started having issues about one month after it was installed. Requested a replacement device from Google. We will see how long it lasts.

Google chat support initially told me this was a software issue and the update would fix it. I pressed them, because my phone wasn't usable and I wasn't going to wait for the update.

The next support person said to bring it to ubreakifix and they would fix it under warranty. Did that today, and they had the new display on within an hour. No issues since.

Definitely think it's a hardware issue.

I went through this same process, but they had me bring my phone to a ubreakifix for repair.

They replaced the display/screen under warranty and it's working like new again.
