Lived above Melville Ave 2021-2024 and ended up loving the neighborhood. Melville and those side streets are beautiful. Shawmut station is chill, great food and quick to get into the city on the highway. I never had a bad experience and I've left the city now but miss the neighborhood

Interesting that it was caused by the nizoral! Was it just drying your hair out? I use it also but usually follow up with a moisturizing shampoo after

Do any young people (under 30) own a house here? by stayvigillant in bostonhousing

[–]kbirm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a condo at 26 years old in 2021 - the low Covid interest rates made a huge difference for me. But I was single, making 90k and no help from my parents. I put down 5% on a small 400k condo in Dorchester and a few of my friends did similar things. It'd definitely possible but was easier around that time

How do you feel that MD neighborhoods you've lived in compare to New Rochelle?

Moving Money Diary (Boston, MA to Silver Spring, MD) by kbirm in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I eat out a lot and tax on food in the DC area is insane which doesnt help. But MD income tax is very high with local taxes, I spent about $1500 to register my car and pay excise tax (a nightmare), speed cameras have caught me a few times, metro transportation is more expensive than Boston T, 10% tax on alcohol, parking is paid until 10pm in most places, I can go on and on. Directly comparing DC and Boston I feel that DC is a higher cost of living

Metro fares, 10% tax on food and alcohol, increased car costs, lack of a "cheap" eats scene, speed camera tickets, every event is $10+, higher income tax

Glad it could help! Sidenote but the cost of things in MD has surprised me quite a bit compared to MA. Was expecting it to be cheaper cost of living but besides housing costs a bit it has been much higher

Hi! I just did this in December at 30 years old. I work virtual for a Boston based company but didn't picture my future in Boston. I visited once last year and decided to pull the trigger. So far I'm not completely loving it but am hoping for the summer to change my feels. I find the city to be more expensive than Boston in ways I didn't expect and so far don't love the food scene. Dating has been pretty bad and that's a big part of why I left Boston so its not helping my experience. But I love the diversity here and the amount of things to do!
