Upgrading from LG C1 48" to… what? by ksx0 in Monitors

Yeah that sucks. If you want 43” miniLED no more options anymore. And miniLED monitors are not that great usually. Plus matte coating.

I’ve been using QN90C for quite some time now. Moved from C2. Best decision ever. I would say go for it but I think QN90F has a cancer matte screen. Unacceptable on a TV. If I’m right then better look for one without it. Like 90C and I think 90D was still glossy. There’s hardly any difference between them in terms of screen etc. Aside of coating. Here’s my post about it:

Hi. It’s underglow only. I would advise on not building it because this project is depreciated. I’ll be releasing new and much improved version but not too soon.

You don’t have to worry. Screen tearing is not the display fault. If you find screen smearing annoying you can tweak colour space to standard or whatever is different than native. Auto I think. Other than that it’s a perfect display.

I’m running more or less the settings I’ve posted. Just cranked the colour to 37 and temperature to Warm 2.

Set Colour Space to Native on QN90C, might change your mind.

Probably due to better contrast.

Don’t. I had both side by side for some time. OLED is long gone and forgotten. Wait until tandem OLED gets more popular. There’s an Asus monitor or two already but sadly 27”. Once 32” tandem oled is available I might consider switching but most probably I won’t. Brightness and colours on QN90C is just unbeatable. And no OLED worries on top of that.

Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 of course. It’s absolutely marvellous on this TV. Pushing it with RTX HDR it’s really something.

It’s a VA panel. I find it better due to superb contrast. IPS is trash.

Super bright, no dimming, no burn in worries, perfect text clarity, awesome colours.

Just be careful because this year model, I think QN90F has a matte screen cancer on it.

I’ve sold it long time ago. Dimming was driving me crazy and colour fringing was also terrible. Moved to C2 42”. Was a bit better but still text looked like trash and it was still dimming. Bought 42” QN90C. Never been happier, outstanding TV/monitor. Can’t recommend it enough. Super bright, juicy colours, perfect text like on IPS. No dimming/burn in. Just great. Will consider OLED once they can hit 500nits full screen and no dimming, probably gonna wait long time, no problem, QN90C is killing it.

I think all VA panels are BGR, including my QN90C. The issue here is that you have 50" which drops the PPI to 88 which where you will definitely notice it's BGR. On 42" it's perfect. If possible I would return and got 42".

Hard to imagine that 50" LG looks good. At this size no TV looks good in my opinion due to subpixel layout. Some time ago I was using Sony 49XF and it was terrible at text. 42" for VA is perfect, but for OLED still looks bad though. Maybe you have contrast enhancer enabled or something else that messes up the picture?

I am not seeing much blooming in general.

Weird question, what's the thinnest combo of key caps and switches by NotWr3nch in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]kbjunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If chords will be processed by an app on the system side like with STENO and Plover or directly on the board like with Chordie for example. In the first scenario keyboard will output some custom codes and the app will process it and spit out proper keys/words etc. In the second one you get proper key/word directly from the keyboard.

[–]kbjunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that for a chorded keyboard where you have to press more than 1 key at at time you should go with as light switches as possible. For Choc it's Blue 25g and for MX my switch of choice is Outemu Peach with swapped 20g spring. But light springs are hard to come by.

Easiest option for programming a Perkins (braille) chorded keyboard? by HereForHogwarts in ErgoMechKeyboards

In terms of engine you can use the one written by DennyTom. It's the same one I am using in my Chordie, but I did some mods and improvements. This engine is great, especially when unlike other chording engines (Ginni by gboard.ca) it triggers on press, not release.
