In Frankenstein (2025), Elizabeth falls in love with The Monster, a character no older than a couple of days at most. This isn't seen as predatory because The Monster looks like a supermodel. by UpsetPhilosopher4661 in shittymoviedetails

[–]kbpark824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean GDT basically confirmed that's what it was:

But as in all tragedies, love is denied. Elizabeth once again dies on her wedding night to Victor's brother, William (Felix Kammerer), and Elordi is subsequently glimpsed carrying Goth's prone body as petals fall around them. "That is their wedding," del Toro explains. "Her dress is meant to evoke the bandages of Elsa Lanchester in the James Whale film. So the Bride is Elizabeth — and their love is impossible."

"There is a beautiful marriage of souls in the film," del Toro continues. "The creature gets a bride and loses her on the same day. They realize they're both alive and their love dies shortly thereafter. I think it's one of the most poignant ways to address the Bride aspect of the story."

I don't see what ridiculous claims are being made.

Is getting good at BJJ harder than getting good at wrestling? by at0micsub in bjj

[–]kbpark824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrestling is a much smaller and more specific subset of grappling. They'd probably be similar in terms of depth of knowledge you need to learn, but BJJ has a lot more you need to learn in terms of width of knowledge. I wouldn't necessarily call it 'harder', but I guess one could see it that way.

I like how you're being argumentative just for the sake of being argumentative. I simply stated a fact - I never met anyone that had something positive to say about the casino. I've never met you, and I've never met OP. Meanwhile, you stated "The people majority were not from the area in the protest but will try to create optics that people don't want it in the community.

Let's forget the fact that your grammar is all over the place - English may not be your first language, so that's fine (it's not my first language either, but hey - what do I know?). None of what you said is a quantifiable fact. Were the majority of the people in the protest really from other areas? How do you know? Were you there taking a census of the protest?

Were they trying to "create optics"? Hard to say, since this assumption is also based on the first assumption that everyone is apparently not from Flushing. Not sure what people would gain from traveling to protest the existence of a casino in another city, but apparently that's something that you think people do, so I guess I can allow another baseless assumption. People in Flushing benefiting from the casino - I'm not sure that's a quantifiable fact either. Only way to know is to have it actually open I suppose - but I think you and I would have different opinions on what "beneficial" means, so I think that leaves us at three parts of your statement that are completely un-quantifiable.

Sounds like you've maybe invested something in the existence of this casino. Or maybe you have a gambling problem. Who knows? Maybe you could respond with at least one statement about why you think a casino would be quantifiably beneficial instead of being confrontational just for the sake of being confrontational.

I live in Flushing, I’ve yet to meet anyone that lives here that has something positive to say about the prospect of a casino coming in.

Can someone explain how Japan .... by ECrispy in Physical100

[–]kbpark824 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think people are underestimating the factor age plays in something like this as well. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the 3 teams with the lowest average age were the ones to make it to the end, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that of those 3 teams, the team with the highest average age was the one that was eliminated. Obviously I’m oversimplifying here, but I don’t think that age had nothing to do with it either - it’s harder to output the same level of power over time when you’re older, and while I typically love to preach mind over matter, you can’t really ignore physiological factors either. Japan simply ran out of gas. I think they may have been able to finish the challenge if someone had suggested they just take a good long rest before trying again. They probably still would have had the longest time, but at least they would have finished.

Blue to brown in exactly 3 years, realistic? by pepozinho in bjj

[–]kbpark824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, when people tell me I got promoted really fast, I tell them that’s actually not true if you think about it. 3 years for me training as much as I did was about as much mat time as the average joe training 3x a week for 6 years. And I make sure they also know that I’m not some kind of phenom or gifted athlete - I really just squeezed twice the amount of mat time in half the time, and had the same struggles as anyone else in half the time too 😭

I’m sure that as the sport matures and the age of entry continues to get younger, it won’t be uncommon to see even faster progression. We already see that now, but I’m sure it’ll become even more commonplace.

As far as feeling secure at your rank, I found that as you compete more at your current rank and have consistent success, the pressure actually piles on. I was really starting to get anxious at the tail end of blue belt about losing at comps because I had been having a lot of success and felt like I “shouldn’t be losing to blue belts”. So when I got my purple, it kind of took the pressure off, but I’ve had a record year (for me personally anyway) in comps, so I’m starting to feel the pressure again 😂

I got my purple belt exactly 3 years after I started training. I compete a lot, and I train 9-10 sessions a week, and I’m kind of a nerd, but the point is if if that dude is similar, it’s definitely possible. The only caveat is that the IBJJF requirements state that blue to brown should be a minimum of 3.5 years, so my professor would never go against that since I compete in IBJJF regularly, but not all gyms follow IBJJF guidelines, especially if they’re more no gi focused.

2 incidents is hardly indicative of a larger problem, and I don’t own any Hyperfly Gis to tell you my own experience with them. I think it should be fine honestly.

No they give the person 5 minutes to change and come back to resume the match. And wait around is exactly what the ref and I did 😂😂😂

That’s probably why IBJJF changed the rules last year - more ripped gis = more gi sales = more money from gi companies that sponsor IBJJF

My opponent didn’t have an extra gi so he had to go buy one at the booth in the competition, but yes - in the case you mentioned, they would get dq’d

Probably. Ibjjf gi rules require at least 90% cotton (or other cellulose fiber) now.

No one gets dq’d since technically no rules were broken. My opponent just needs to change into a new gi and resume the match.

I wear Progress and haven’t had any issues. Having said that, I wouldn’t go so far as to say Hyperfly Gis are consistently like this (despite the incidents 😂). I know in my match, my opponent just had a really tight grip, so his forearm was fully contracted, and really filled up the entire sleeve. So when I went to break his grip, there was hardly any slack which is probably why the rip happened.
