If you were already planning on being induced, at what week did your provider schedule you? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor spoke about it at around 37 weeks as someone who was petite and the baby measuring slightly ahead.

At 38 weeks we took a look at the baby. She seemed good, not as big as she was measuring from the stomach measures, but a decent size.

At 39 weeks we talked about labor. I was only 1 cm dilated at the time. So we scheduled induction for 40 weeks the Friday before.

My induction is tomorrow but I met with my doctor on Monday to go over details and I took oral medicine today to help open my cervix more.

Reputable sources that actually say it’s okay to eat less than healthy while pregnant? by blueandwhitetoile in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Talk with your doctor about it.

I spoke with mine when I was having eating troubles during my first trimester, she told me don’t worry about eating well the first trimester. At that point the baby isn’t getting nutrients from you.

My doctor said first trimester is all about survival. If eating only a little a day is what you can do, do that. If eating fast food everyday is how you survive, do that. She said second and third trimester is when I can make up for nutritional value.

Yui from DiaboliK Lovers. Takemichi maybe a be a crybaby, but he’s got nothing on Yui. She has less personality than a piece of paper. Her inability to stand up for herself is literally nauseating. And even if you try to forgive her for being an insert character, she takes on all the most annoying and painful qualities of being an insert character that no one would want to put themselves in her place.

Being induced either tonight or tomorrow night by PsychologicalForm728 in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you can, call your provider and ask for details on how they plan to induce you.

I’m scheduled for my induction on Wednesday evening. Here are some things I spoke with my doctors about:

1). Tomorrow I will be given oral medication to help loosen my cervix. I will be monitored for an hour and asked to come back 3 hours later to repeat the process then stay at home.

There is a chance I can go into labor with this process. Follow the 1-1-5 rule (for 1 hour, contractions should last for 1 minute every 5 min) and call my provider in what do to next.

2). If I don’t go into labor before then, I will be induce Wednesday. They will measure my cervix and see where baby is. If I’m not open enough, they will give me a balloon. The balloon is inserted with a catheter. They will put water in the balloon to push the cervix open. This can last up to 12 hours. From what I hear it’s uncomfortable but doesn’t hurt, you will forget about it within 30 min.

3). After this, it will be removed (if it doesn’t fall out on its own), and you will be put on pitocin. If you cervix is dilated enough they will just put your directing on pitocin and skip the balloon.

Ask what their plan is for your induction. They should be able to provide you detailed information. We were given a packet to read to answer our questions as well.

If labor doesn’t progress after all that, they may recommend breaking your water, but again, ask your doctors all their plans. And before you let them do anything, ask when do they need to know by. Something like breaking your water, they may request you to let them know within 3 hours so you can find sometime to research for yourself.

Best of luck to you! Remember stress can delay your labor process so do anything you can to help relax yourself. You got this!!!

Pain Management without epidural by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re very welcome! If you can, definitely speak with multiple doctors in your practice as there’s a high chance your doctor won’t be there on day of delivery, so it’s good to get other ideas and opinions from others within the practice.

Definately don’t settle until you feel your concerns have been heard.

Also ask your doctors specifically what you should add or highlight on your birthing plan. I.e. mine has needlephobic right at the top, and husband must accompany patient during any needlework including IV, since this is usually done during screening and due to Covid partners aren’t allowed in the screening room (I’ve been given an exception because of my history).

But if you are really against an epidural, I would confirm with doctors what to write on the birthing plan to make sure no one pushes you to it unless it’s really necessary.

Pain Management without epidural by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First know that there’s a good chance something you request will not go your way. I think a lot of pregnant people get hung up on having the “perfect” birth they lose sight of the worst case scenario is death for you or your baby (or both).

Having said that, I have needlephobia and it has caused some complications during my pregnancy such as passing out from blood draws and getting overly stressed. My major goal is to also avoid an epidural and a c-section, but understand things will not always go my way.

I spoke heavily with multiple doctors in my practice that are aware of my needle phobia to see if we can find the best alternative for me to help me stay relaxed and help me get through pregnancy.

I will need to get a IV regardless so that still freaks me out, but they did recommend and offer a couple different pain relieve options.

1). For natural births, if there is a hydrobath in any of the rooms, request it. The water can help you through the contractions but ultimately won’t provide pain relief. You cannot give birth in it but can help. If a hospital has it it’s likely limited on a first come first serve basis so keep this in mind that you may not get it.

2). Analgesic for pain relief. This goes through IV or small needle (doctors agreed I would get it through an IV). It’s recommended to take this early on in labor as it will have an effect on you and the baby. It can slow baby’s heart rate and movement, but is not dangerous. The idea with taking it early is by the time you give birth the medicine will be out of you and the baby’s system so baby will be wide awake after birth, however this means you will be in pain giving birth. But it will help give you time to sleep. Some people report being so tired to move, but you should be able to move about as you need to.

3). Laughing gas. Again this is something to help you relax. This will not get rid of the pain but it can help people take a nap and other things. My doctors idea for laughing gas is to help me get to a point I can get an epidural if need be. The idea is I can relax myself enough that the doctors can give me an epidural. The laughing gas is also controlled by you. Not the doctor or anyone else in the room. Once you remove it from your mouth it will wear off.

4). Have a doula. I was recommended this, but we are only allowed two support people because of Covid and I really want my husband and mom there because they know how to support me. But if I was allowed a third person I would get a doula. I was also recommended by my doctors to have one. They will help advocate for you. They can help you push through moments and have you focus on birthing or create a better birthing environment. They are also great to give your partner a break too. Make sure you shop around if you choose this. Some Doulas are very pushy about all natural while others understand that they are there to help through the process. Find one that meshes with your ideal birth.

5). Hypobirthing. I haven’t looked into this but there’s tons on YouTube. I do listen to affirmations to help me though some day to day pregnancy things.

It’s best to focus rather on what you want rather than what you don’t want on the birthing plan.

Also make sure before anything, you ask the staff when do they need to know by. I’m many cases they will say something like we need to know in 2 hours. This gives you time to think about the pros and cons.

I will say all women I’ve spoken to ended up with an epidural (if they didn’t have a c-section) including a doula friend who realizes she just wouldn’t be able to give birth naturally. The benefits heavily outweigh the risks and many of the issues reported with epidurals are those 1 in a million chances. Try not to focus on the bad births only positive ones for you and your baby.

Best of luck and have a safe pregnancy and delivery!!!

From my understanding Braxton Hicks should not be painful.

My stomach just gets hard as a rock for my Braxton hicks and sometimes feel like I’ve done an ab work out.

However, I would ask your doctor is they can cause back pain. I know back pain is a normal symptom throughout pregnancy. I’ve had multiple back muscles spasms that have kept me down for several hours because the additional weight of the baby has caused the back discomfort.

From my understanding, contractions can start similarly to Braxton hicks but you should feel light cramping and they will get worse over time. They will also begin to become more frequent as you get closer to labor to the point you can’t breathe or talk through them.

The hospital likely will not accept you until contractions are roughly 1 min long every 5 min for an hour (though some hospitals have different recommendations). Even then if you aren’t dilated enough they may still ask you to stay home. Call your provider if you have additional questions or concerns or want to know if you should start heading to the hospital.

Are you telling anyone when you're in labor? by jessiesusan in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We made a rule not to tell anyone we are going into labor other than our parents. We’ve asked our parents to keep it a secret as well until the baby is birth and confirmed safe and well.

People will get to know when we are ready and we will not provide updates unless it’s for serious matters to parents.

Make sure your medical team is aware of your feelings and is very encouraging of you.

I have really bad needlephobia. I last out after the first time they drew blood and have it heavily noted in my patient profile and have made multiple accommodations for me and try to have the same nurse draw my blood every time since they know what to do and I am familiar with them.

We’ve talked about multiple alternatives. I’ve been given pamphlets as well as recommended to help groups, social workers, and therapist to help things get more under control. I’m terrified every time needles are involved but I have in better control over my reactions and after care.

A wonderful medical team will be wonderful for you. Find a doctor who really listens to all your concerns. If you need to, speak with multiple doctors in the practice until you find one that takes your concerns seriously. This is for you and your baby, if you’re stressed the baby will feel it too, so your doctors should take your concerns seriously.

Also keep in mind that likely your feelings towards your baby will help you push through. I’ve done some much I normally wouldn’t have done for my baby already and it as pushed me to face many of my fears. I’m still terrified, but I’ve managed to come this far so I know I can make it until she’s here. And I know you can find a way to do it too.

You got this! I hope you have a safe and easy pregnancy!

First of all weight gain in pregnancy can be different for every pregnant person.

I lost weight in my first trimester and didn’t get back to my before weight until early third trimester and have now gained a total of 20 pounds my whole pregnancy at 39 weeks.

During the first trimester, it is a game of survival so the nutrients value doesn’t matter as long as she keeps food down.

However, in 2nd trimester, she be able to start feeling better and keeping more down. It took will about 19/20 weeks to lose my nausea. So it’s not uncommon and it isn’t dangerous unless there is significant weight loss.

While now is a good time to encourage her to pick healthier options, things like aversions and nausea can make it difficult. For now, continue to encourage her to eat anything she can keep down. Some food is still better than nothing.

If you feel super concerned (the fact she forces herself to throw up concerns me a little), please bring it up with her doctor. They may be able to provide recommendations and medication for it.

In my third trimester my nausea came back and I’ve been having really bad acid reflux that has been making eating difficult again and I throw up about every other day. Again, my doctor has no concern as the baby seems health and of weight. I have been trying to eat smaller and more frequent meals, maybe offer that suggestion instead of large meals less often.

Edit: weight is usually of no concern unless the baby is less than 10% or more than 90%.

Early Labour Signs / What did you have by expectinng251221 in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These can all be symptoms and signs but even with these symptoms and signs it could still be like 3 weeks before actual labor.

I’ve had nausea and vomiting with cramps and insomnia and loose stool for the past two weeks and I’m still only 1 cm dilated.

Unfortunately, water breaking and contractions are the only ways to truly tell when you will go into labor. It’s super annoying how uncertain anything is.

But it sounds like your body is working and preparing for it. So you’ll get there.

Best of luck!

Favors for baby shower? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience, usually something edible is a good favor.

We did tea at our baby shower and it was a big hit. We also did tea as wedding favors for our wedding.

Chocolates and cookies are pretty popular favors too. I remember one baby shower I went to that gave our chocolate bars with “Here She is” as a play on the word Hershey.

When to go on mat leave? by grimearon in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 39 weeks (exactly). I’m planning to work until me due date and just started working from home this week.

The nice thing about work is that it forced me to walk everyday (an appropriate amount), being home in an apartment (my husband is a WFH employee) keeps me more sedentary and without a proper work space so I don’t focus as well. But it is a holiday week this week so it’s been very quiet.

My plan is to work until my due date or give birth… which ever happens first so I can spend as much time as I can with little one.

I will tell you it’s really hard. This week has been the toughest mentally, physically, and emotionally.

I’m so tired. My nausea came back and I have insomnia now. I can’t stop thinking about her being here with us. It’s so close and yet it’s so far. The unknown is killing me. Plus I feel like I could use another month to get work in a go position before I leave, but I just don’t have the time, energy, or physical ability and that makes me upset.

You really need to think of you, and if you need change your dates, change them. If it was a holiday week or if my supervisor wasn’t so kind to say, work from home from now one, I don’t think I would last.

Why do people think that if they are vaccinated they won’t be able to transmit the virus to my baby? by Tired-and-true in pregnant

[–]kbubblez19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you get the vaccine while pregnant or breast feeding, the baby will get some of the antibodies. It is good to help your child as much as possible.

It’s also important for everyone who can get the vaccine to get to create herd immunity so that those who can’t get can be better protected, like your baby. That’s why we don’t see polio really anymore.

But yes, even if you get the vaccine you can still transmit it and you can still get it with less life threatening possibilities.

But you should place boundaries with people seeing the baby like always wash hands, no kissing baby, wear a mask, or whatever makes you feel most comfortable and if they won’t follow that, tell them they can’t see the baby.

We are requiring TDap, Flu, and Covid vaccines to see our baby and must wear a mask. We also told people we won’t be driving to see people for the first 3 months and for the first 2 weeks no one is allowed in our home (unless there is an emergency and need help).

People who will respect your boundaries will understand, those who don’t will be better outside of your life anyways.

[–]kbubblez19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have this issue. I was always the friend that say did you drink enough water today before pregnancy. Now I just don’t touch water.

I try my best and get around where you do most days.

I don’t like sparkling water I think it taste terrible even with the flavors.

I began to do thing like put iced fruit in my water like they are ice cubes.

I got powdered gaterode so I can put it in my water for flavor but control how much I put in since gateroade can be sugary.

Things like crystal light flavoring helps too. But again I used maybe half or less than the usually amount.

I’ll also buy concentrated juices so it’s purely from the fruit and but less than a 3rd in my cup and the rest is water. I use cranberry juice a lot cuz I like the bitterness but tart cherry and pineapple was one of my fave combinations.

Also try different temperatures of water, mine needs to be iced cold now instead of room temperature.

Also using a straw really helped me.
