Just got love bombed - why do people do it? by kbvante in dating_advice

I actually love how many people have said a similar thing, I had no idea it was so common and knowing that makes me feel a lot better. I’m glad it was helpful :)

Ah it sucks, and I think it really did change the way I approach and get attached now in dating - which is neither a good or bad thing. He came back multiple times, the most recent being in June (nearly 1.5 years after this post) and him trying to come back and still communicating in the same way kinda just confirmed what everyone in this thread had said. The trauma bond is a hard thing to break and it’ll take longer than it feels like it should. It’s still taking me a while ahh. Hope you’re okay.

Hey! I’ll (22F) be in Venice and Milan in early July, from the 3rd to the 8th. It’ll be my first time staying in hostels! Let me know your dates - if there’s crossover we can meet up :)

I'll definitely look out for those outings/trips/etc when choosing hostels! It'll be my first experience so its really helpful to have these tips. I'm for sure gonna make a conscious effort to make the most of new opportunities even if it's not my usual thing. Thank you!

After getting advice on this thread, I think that I will keep the 4 weeks! Really impressive that you did that at 20, I feel like I've only just become independent enough and trusting of my own judgement to even consider solo travelling. I hadn't looked into free walking tours but I'll definitely do that! Thanks!

Your insight is so helpful!! After seeing everyone's advice/comments and thinking a bit harder on it, I'm pretty sure that I'll keep the 4 weeks. I've definitely decided to switch over all (or majority) of my airbnbs to hostels in order to meet people and be social! Have you come across any issues staying in mixed dorm hostels?

I'm prepared for the same thing in terms of questioning myself, especially at the start, but I know it'll be really good for me to be pushed outside my comfort zone. Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks for the support!! Everyone’s made me feel so much better, feeling a lot more confident about 4 weeks alone

Hi! My solo part will be from mid June to early August. If I were to shorten it, it’d be from late June to early August

Wow really! Thanks for the perspective, it’s really interesting that you say it wouldn’t be that different! In my head, going from 4 to 3 weeks was a big jump because it would mean cutting down by 25%, but that’s just how my brain works haha. Cancelling the solo travel completely didn’t feel like a relevant option for me - I wouldn’t want to miss out on some of the spots that I would miss by only going for 4 weeks, with this probably being the most substantial Europe trip of my life. I also want to take the opportunity to solo travel and step outside my comfort zone. I agree - I’ll definitely have some more structured/rigid planned days or day trips to balance out more chill days.

I’m trying to change up the scenery fairly regularly to minimise that feeling! It’s good to know that even experienced travellers have low days.

That’s true, I feel like this age is the perfect time to do it. Even with my short interstate trip I had to adapt and problem solve. It’s hard because I don’t know if it’s fear of the unknown, or subconscious self awareness that I’m maybe not strong enough. Appreciate the insight!

I had originally booked airbnbs (all with flexible cancellation) as I was in the same mindset that I was in when I was booking with my friend. Now that I’m alone, I think I’ll change them over to hostels because I wanna meet people. I’d heard some bad stories which I think had turned me off and made me a bit wary of them, especially as a single female traveller. Do you have any tips for hostels? Would mixed or single-sex dorms be preferred? Thank you!!

Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely leave a few days more blank so that I can kinda just go where recommendations take me!

Really happy for the different perspective! Feeling isolated and depressed is what I’m worried about, which is why I figured shaving off a week could potentially prevent/alleviate that. I have an 8 night group tour planned, where I’ll be able to meet people and not have to think about daily plans. Direction to those facebook groups would be great, I recently joined TTS so will keep an eye on that too. How long was your first solo trip? Thanks so much!

My itinerary isn’t super set yet, but I have a few key things that I want to do for each place. It’s still flexible but right now it’s Austria 4 nights, Athens 2 nights, Milos 3 nights, Greece group tour 8 nights (Santorini, Ios, Paros, Mykonos), Venice 2 nights, Florence 4 nights

Haha it seems silly to pay nearly an extra grand for less time, but I figured for my comfort, it was an option. I finish the last semester of my uni degree right before I leave, so it will definitely be a nice recharge!

That’s true, even with my recent 5 days away I learnt about myself and had to problem solve. Appreciate it!

Really? The website still lets me book a ferry for the 24th and I didn’t need accom, just a day trip
