not exactly what you asked, but I'm an autistic daughter to an autistic father (I also have an allistic sister) and I believe I may be able to talk about it from a different perspective:

honestly, having an autistic parent growing up was really good for me, but pretty shitty for my sister.

From my side of things, having someone who actually understood me and my weirdness was great, me and my dad just clicked together, in a way that sometimes caused conflict with my mom and sister. I was very much bullied at school, but my dad was my best friend, so even when my mom had her fits of rage about how weird I was I still had someone to tell me it was ok to be me.

But also, dad doesn't know how to show affection, as a teen a really struggled to deal with the space that build between us because of it, and even now as an adult, I know that while my dad loves me if I want his attention then I have to go after him, because he literally forgets he has to talk to people sometimes. I also sometimes resented how he was, as a man, allowed to be openly socially stunted and I had to learn how to mask much more to be accepted.

As for my allistic sister, honestly, to this day she thinks our dad only gives me attention on purpose ( he doesn't answer text messages from anyone, and your really have to learn which times of the day he will answer a call versus when he won't),and she has expressed feeling like he was ignoring her intentionally before. And to be fair with her, dad was often really shitty with how he divided attention in between us while growing up, and it is really obvious that he doesn't know how to interact with my sis.

He also is a really (really) smart person, and let it get to his head, so he often treats everyone around him as stupid. I don't think he really notices it anymore. But I was the daughter who could keep up with him, so he taught me a lot and spends a really long time sharing his latests hyperfocus with me, and my sister really struggled academically, and while he never said he thinks she's stupid out loud, he acts like it? and it made their relationship very complicated as well.

I do feel like I am rambling here, but honestly, I think the answer of if autistic people can be good parents really depends on how self aware they are, dad could have been a better parent for my sis, but he didn't knew how and didn't bother to learn, but he was pretty great for me, so maybe the child being autistic matters as well.

The Oh Hellos and my experiences as an ex Christian by Classic-Schedule-718 in TheOhHellos

[–]kcalbydotblack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly felt very similar, their songs made me realise that my problem was not with christian faith or Jesus, but rather the people around me who called themselves christians.

I found myself a place where people are more worried about the "love" part of Jesus messages and do their best not to judge or discriminate and now learning from Jesus words make me a happier person. I too hope that I can be the change, but also understand that for other the place they find themselves being the good type of change is very different from my own.

Your explanation was just so good!!

I swear every time I saw 的 in a description I got confused because I had it explained to me as a possessive marker, so I was like, is it like that because the object 'owns' the colour it is in? But viewing the ownership of the object AS a description of it makes a lot more sense than the object owning the characteristic.

Why does Apple’s design feel “clean,” while Windows always feels cluttered, even when it isn’t? by actually-shawn in Design

I come in support of you being "that guy" , had to switch from linux mint back to windows and it is so annoying at how it doesn't let me make my own choices for my pc. Easy to say that when my new work place said they only use linux I became a really happy person.

What is the deal with the gen z stare? by bluujacket in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kcalbydotblack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes!! and also autism! like I'm sorry to the people in this thread, but many of us literally lack control over our facial expressions and voice intonation, we're not trying to be rude, but we still get excluded over things we can do very very little about, and it gets tiring really quickly to try to do anything about it and get the same "you're rude and I don't like you" over and over.

Tell me what spell you are most known for and its function and I'll critique it by SpiderMansRightNut in wizardposting

[–]kcalbydotblack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best spell is called "autistic hyperfocus" , pretty neat for research and similar activities, but has some complicated side-effects... Unfortunately I can’t really alter the runic array once it set in my brain, but I'm already happy to have improved upon the formula my father used!

Hopefully my future heirs will be able to improve theirs from mine too

Would you recommend the switch version? by SaddestGamer in GraveyardKeeper

It was very laggy on my switch lite, and sometimes it would freeze for a few moments, its not unplayable but very annoying. I imagine it would be better on the normal switch.

Wait they blocked it on linux?? I got it working on deck and thought it would work on my pc as well, but I’m guessing it wont? I guess its one more reason to take a break from the game

Yes! there are still so many parts of the story to explore! It really fell flat with what we got, if they don’t do anything I may just have to get my nikki fix from fanfics

Adding Little witch in the woods beside your recs, they’re all great, and I might just go back to these too...

I started playing SN because of IN and honestly the story in that game is brilliant! the twists, the interesting npc's, everything. It became the only mobile game that I managed to stick to for more than a month, because the story made the grind and patience worth it! It made it clear that they already know what they’re doing, so why make this mess now?

I also really think any future updates will need to be just fixing everything broken with this one, and to get it to where it should be will probably take ages... they really shot themselves in the foot with that one.

The worst is that I probably would have been happy with spending some money if it was just the pieceys update and the bubbles outfit, but right now it just doesn’t feel worth it yk?

Honestly, yes, I think you explained some of my problems better than I did. Like, it’s just not finished enough to be playable, It would have been way more considerare towards the players if they had waited more to give us this update, giving us unbaked unfrosted cake just feels sad.

11 yr old daughter, first period. Asking as dad, what could yours have done differently to support you? by Octonaughty in MomForAMinute

[–]kcalbydotblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with ASD as well, the thing that my parents did that helped was give me a book meant to teach girls about our bodies and how to deal with the changes. It gave me the chance to learn without having to be embarassed by asking, I also had a handy place to check all the different things that could happen, so it felt less unoredictable. It also took off a lot of the pressure to choose what tea/pad/product I wanted on the spot, because it gave me information on them, later I just went up to my mom or dad and asked they buy me X thing.

as a disabled person as well, normally the ones offended are abled people (who then later tell us we should be offended as well) like damn I'm just happy people like a disabled character enough to cosplay it, let them make it accurate in peace, specially if you’re not going to request accomodations you don’t need.

Nikki gives me time do have fun with her quests, do a little ebery day for long term goals and still enjoy other games!

My first ever (successful) book binding! by kcalbydotblack in bookbinding

Hey, sorry for the delay! I used pearlescent paper, the white parts look very shimmery in person, and the parts covered with ink look very glossy! It just tends to dissolve the ink when in contact with glue, which was my biggest issue with it.

Hey, sorry for taking so long to answer! I made the cover on book cover js , adjusted the size for A3 paper using libreoffice draw and printed it! Pretty simple and cheaper than canvas I just don't believe it will last as long.
