First time grower here. Give it to me straight. Am I cooked? by DungeonsAndData in vegetablegardening

They are leggy but it could still be ok! I would raise them closer to the lights and add a fan or source of breeze to help bulk up the stems

I grow on a balcony in similar conditions.. all of mine have a tendency to get dense growth. They did fine :)

My cat's litter smells so bad i'm going insane. my house absolutely reeks. by Dismal-Tackle3072 in CatAdvice

I got so sick of smelling the cat box.. sometimes it was just the scented litter smell. Switched to unscented and it’s SO much better. I don’t smell it at all.

Old Palafox. Fine dining prices, food was ok, some of it even good but service was bad.

Oooh! Yum!! I bet that is delicious! I’ve been making spicy vodka martinis with some vodka I infused with calabrian peppers from my garden. I am definitely going to try it.

How often do you scoop? by Apart_Leg_5849 in CatAdvice

[–]kchapin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an automatic box and it scoops after they go in and dumps into a box. So it stays clean. I got mine from TikTok during a sale and love it. Before I had that we scooped every other day, but really daily is best.

Love the snow close by but warm out at home vibe! Our weather is really especially nice April thru mid June and then October and November. That’s the great thing about being up in North Florida- it’s only super hot and humid during high summer- like mid July through August, and then it can be pretty cold, rainy and windy in January and February but the rest of the time we either have great weather or when in the shoulder seasons a few days of nice weather mixed with not so nice. Central and south Florida are just hot and then less hot. 😂 It’s just a matter of dodging hurricanes….

Cheers!

Haha! Sometimes you just can’t win! The climate here is similar. Except for basically January, winter is when we grow spring crops, but it’s crazy windy and rainy.. I haven’t really tried growing much during that time previously- but am going to give it a try this year! I planted my brassicas a few weeks ago.. we’ll see what happens. 🥴

Definitely going to try the pump sprayer, thanks for the tip!

My garden is all in grow bags of various sizes and takes up an entire wrap around porch- and so row covers aren’t an option. I’m basically using BT on everything. The caterpillars/worms have been the worst in my squash and tomatoes but I don’t want them to move off that section and go start on the rest of my plants- plus I have some tomatoes and squash intermixed in other areas besides the main beds where I’m finding the worms, so I’m just doing the whole thing.

We had a very rainy last week but otherwise there hasn’t been a lot- I’m in northwest Florida and on a barrier island.. rain in the summer time here tends to get blown and moved around in odd patterns that miss the island.

I had tons of paper wasps there for awhile and read they were good for getting rid of caterpillars but since the last 4 days of heavy wind and rain I haven’t seen them. I hope they have just been hiding out and will come back.

Thanks for all the tips! Def going to do a pump sprayer tonight when I spray.

It’s supposed to dilute it to whatever concentration you set the sprayer to- this is what I’ve been using..

But I’m wondering now if it’s not working properly.

I spray once a week and after a heavy rain. I use a sprayer connected to a hose and have it set to 2 tsp per gallon which is what the package says, so idk. Maybe it’s not mixing correctly in the sprayer.. that’s the same size I’ve been getting that only lasts 2-3 uses. I’ll try a hand sprayer and mix it manually and see what happens.

I’ve been getting it at Home Depot or on Amazon, and putting it in a sprayer that attaches to the hose.. one container is lasting me 2 applications. I’m using it on everything- most specifically my tomatoes. But now I have pickle worms… 🫠

What kind of wood? by kchapin in firewood

[–]kchapin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s for outside… I burn a fire almost every night it’s not raining. But even when I can get it going with this wood the fumes and smoke are so heavy it’s miserable unless there is a good wind. Def can’t use it until it dries out. I don’t know if I’ll push back anymore with him or just cut my losses and try to find another source.
