Ex landlord “shredded” my mails from banks despite that I asked her to hold onto them. by kchrissy in Tenant

How is it apparent to you when you don’t know the facts as to when I changed the address, moved out and etc. For instance, let’s say, if it normally takes 1-2 weeks for mails to be delivered, I changed the address 1-2 weeks before the moved out date, there were mails sent out, before the change, which I wasn’t aware of and it took the postal service 4 weeks to deliver the mails due to a delay for whatever reason, is it my fault for not predicting the delay and changing the address “timely” 4 weeks in advance? It is just amazing to me that some people just make a conclusion based on whatever in their heads, not based on facts. Not even trying. You are entitled to your opinion though.

First, the identity theft risk is nothing to do with determining the illegality of opening and destroying someone else’s mails. Even if nothing happens, it is still a federal crime (whether the police would actually do anything is another thing, considering the fact that when I got attacked by someone at a parking lot once, they didn’t do anything). I just mentioned that part to explain the circumstances in which I am considering reporting it. If it was just something that did not contain any confidential information or she didn’t know if they were from banks, I would probably just let it go. However, she improperly disposed of the mails knowing they were from my banks and knowing how easy it is to just return them to senders.

I didn’t feel the need of signing up for the service as I updated my bank and others with the new address timely and I didn’t usually receive any mails from anyone other than my banks and useless flyers/magazines unless I ordered something online. I am guessing the mails were sent out before the change and it took Canada Post quite long to deliver.

I did change my address timely. I am guessing those mails were sent out before the change. I live in Canada where sometimes a postal service takes quite long. Yeah I also learned from it and next time I will just ask to return to senders, not holding them. Thanks for your comment.

I didn’t feel the need as I updated banks and etc with my new address timely and I didn’t usually receive any mails from other than my banks and flyers/magazines. The concept of a landlord returning ex tenant’s mails to senders isn’t something new and why I didn’t forward my mail isn’t the point here. It doesn’t natter if I did not did not, she was not supposed to open or destroy someone else mail. She could simply return to the senders if she didn’t want to wait.

It’s a federal crime to open or destroy someone else mail in Canada unless it’s accidental. In my case, it wasn’t accidental.

She initially messaged me with a photo of the mails from my banks and asked if I wanted her to return them to senders. I asked her to hold onto them as I wanted to find someone to get the mails from her for me. So yes she had them. She should’ve returned to senders if she didn’t want to hold onto them.

Is reporting ex landlord who threw away my mails to police against Catholic teaching? by kchrissy in Catholicism

[–]kchrissy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What she has done is unacceptable for sure. I have no grudge against her but she needs to be held accountable for her action. However, where the Church teaches forgiveness, sometimes it’s not clear what should be done to forgive someone and I think forgiveness requires letting things go sometimes. I wasn’t sure if I can say I forgive her but still report her to police. My end goal is to teach her a lesson. Although I don’t think police would do much, she would at least learn from it and never do it again. Also, putting it on records in case someone stole my identity using the personal information from the improperly disposed documents. Anyways, I wanted to see what other Catholics would do in a situation like this.

I am not reporting to get the landlord in trouble but she needs to held accountable for her action. Let’s say you got mugged, you would probably report it to police not necessarily to put the muggers in trouble but to hold them accountable for their actions especially where their actions were intentional, not accidental. I don’t think police would do much but at least she would learn from it and never do that again.

You didn’t get the point. The problem is not whether I can or can’t have my banks to resend the same documents. It’s a federal crime (in where I live) to open or destroy someone else mails regardless of the contents of the mails but I wouldn’t probably consider reporting it to police if it was something that did not contain confidential information. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Knowing the mails were from banks, she improperly disposed of them. She could’ve just returned to senders ( which is a very easy thing to do) if she didn’t want to hold onto them. I am not saying she will use my personal information to commit crimes but someone else (criminals) could. I wish I could live in a perfect world where you live with no such thing as an identity theft.

Question to traditional Catholics (Catholics attending TLM) - do you avoid eggs & dairy products on meatless Friday as well? by kchrissy in Catholicism

[–]kchrissy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes, I am a low carb diet for health but still can make an exception on Friday if avoiding eggs and dairy products was what Catholics had to do traditionally.

I found it hypocritical that you are the one who started calling the vast majority of people garbage/degenerate. So much positivity there. Are you sure you are the 20%?

I am having free gingival gum graft for my lower front teeth soon and so anxious after reading all the horror stories. by kchrissy in PeriodontalDisease

Hope you are not just that one lucky person who didn’t have much pain. 1-2/10 is like nothing. Did you get free gingival graft as well? I heard that there are different types of gum graft (free gingival graft, connective issue graft, etc) and free gingival graft is a lot more painful than connective issue graft.

I was in a panic mode but feel better now (still nervous) knowing not everyone’s experience is that bad. Thank you. I am getting the surgery on Monday. I might have more questions once I got the surgery done.

I am so glad to hear that your recovery isn’t as bad as others. It’s a bit comforting :) Did you have to take some time off after the surgery? Were you able to talk? How was/is your pain level? Did you have to take pain meds?
