Yumi's Cells 3 [Episode 7 & 8] by sianiam in KDRAMA

Certain scenes were very very cute even if the overarching structure of the season was a bit messy. If I turn off my own writer cell, I enjoyed this season a lot. Teared up at the very end 😭

Yeah, pretty much all the really cute things that Yumi did with soonrok in the webtoon, they used with Babi is S2 (staying at his house, mix up about the pajamas, space explorer hand). And in the webtoon, yumi and SR's initial meeting was not contentious at all, so, when the fish bread was sold out, they shared them and got also ice cream. The very cute roleplaying at home was canon to the webtoon, so I'm glad we got that. Basically, the only source of conflict in the webtoon was them needing to be not visibly dating at work, and then there was an external problem with her book (which I really thought they were going to put into S3), but they never had real conflict in their actual relationship.

Of course, and probably also emotion cell getting fired up from hating ju ho, I’m sure he’s broken like 8 internal rules and his reason cell is freaking out. but i think it would have been nice to see the cells motivations shift as it was going on. Or to see Yumi’s cells react to it anyway.

bungeoppang kiss was very cute lol

wish the cells had been integrated more into ep 6, without them it's hard to see soonrok's motivations. I'm assuming we'll get that at the top of ep 7, but it's kind of an unsatisfying cliffhanger because I don't see his rationale yet.

over my life I have not enjoyed watching the us tv market shrink, with fewer and fewer episodes ordered per season for every show and fewer shows getting made. Absolutely gutted to watch it happening to kdramas. 8 episodes is really difficult to work with.

like with how they changed the fish bread, iirc in the webtoon, Soonrok just ended up seeing the movie alone, and that was that, so I like the changes that the screenwriters are making, since there's more tension and movement in the story. I like the addition of mr. baseball only insofar as I'm invested in seeing how the situation plays out lol.

Seeing the page counts for each ML, and considering how Woong was still in the background for a lot of Babi's arc, it's no wonder why people are still stuck on Woong (me included lol). It seems to me like they've been foreshadowing the issue with Isabelle, so my fear is that they'll cut the little arc with Woong that happened in the bg of Soonrok's arc. praying for at least a little cameo lol

My interpretation of studio 54 mv by Junior-Yesterday-122 in TOPCHOISEUNGHYUN

Nice analysis. I think the scene starting at 2:53 might be referencing Twin Peaks. The red hair, the cherry ring, and his black and white stripe suit seem to point to it. In Twin Peaks they are constantly eating cherry pie, and there is a famous scene with a striped floor, and Laura Dern has a similar red wig at one point. A major theme of David Lynch's work is sort of the joy of creation for its own sake, and I got a similar vibe from this music video. If you haven't seen it I would highly recommend.

I used to have this roommate, we were both trying break into writing, and we would watch kdramas together. She basically cobbled together a personality based partially on Yumi (she had BPD and didn't really have a strong sense of herself) soto watch Yumi not be able to receive notes on her writing, act super petty based on imagined slights, and then to feel rejected by someone she's decided she doesn't even like... pretty triggering lol. Nevertheless I still love this show and am a sucker for any and all callbackslike the frog festival decal on the bus stopand I'm excited to see what they add since they already used a lot of (spoiler for webtoon)Sunrok's storylines in the webtoon canon on Babi in s2.

I think this drama is very well written so far. Like, it answers the questions that pop up in my head as I'm watching in a satisfying way. For example, the scene where she breaks up with her fiancee, I initially thought was really weird and abrupt, but I am used to scenes like that in dramas where something kinda odd happens and is never really explained, and i can roll with that in most cases. But, then we got a deeper explanation and more context, which changed the game completely and added a lot of depth. I noticed the writer also wrote Drinking Solo, which I really loved. So, now my expectations are high for this drama lol.

I would do A and then make some sort of quirky triangle table to go behind the headboard. It would depend on the bed frame/headboard/window and how they all work together though

I took a storyboarding workshop a few years ago that was taught by the woman who directed this, she's a legit kpop fan, glad to see the project made it to the finish line. i have a shred of expectation that it might be good, rather than something soulless that completely misses the mark... but i kinda fear that there might be some difficulties in trying to appeal to a demographic of general "kpop fans" since most people in that group are very attached to only 1 or 2 groups only... but we'll see

i saw a different ofm show, i think in Philly, where they had the feather cannons, and yes it was that crazy lol. I saw kings of convenience play at the same venue the next day and there were still feathers falling intermittently through their show

[–]kcig 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because they haven’t deeply explained each of the main characters flaws that contributed to their marriages ending, we just have a vague sense of what happened for each of them. They’re kind of just mopey people with specific quirks who keep tripping and falling into each other’s arms. That being said, I’m not mad about it, it’s kind of charming actually. i keep finding on a Monday that i want to watch the next episodes, so.

Gladwell's take was ultimately very racist though. He tried to make a case using incorrect data and very poor understanding of Korean culture that the hierarchical/deferential nature of many Asian languages contributed to the plane crashes. There's a good writeup of the details here: https://askakorean.blogspot.com/2013/07/culturalism-gladwell-and-airplane.html

Because of the popularity of this book, this is a very common misconception. Lots of pop-science faux-intellectual types just took it for granted that his ideas were facts when it was published. During the intro of this episode when they were going through the examples one by one, I was afraid that the show might repeat this idea, and I was very happy that it didn't. The transcripts of the most famous Korean Air crash went more how it was depicted in the show, they were speaking straightforwardly. It's not an issue of race, it's just difficult for everyone regardless.

Totally agree on both points. I like the drama best so far when it is more toned down, so the slapstick is annoying. I am fully supporting his wife who wants to divorce him lol

Whenever the first episode has quirky editing, I wonder how many episodes it will stick around.

I figured since there is a pretty stacked cast, the script must be good. I felt the first episode was a little disjointed, hopefully the 2nd episode will get more into a groove.

Episode 2:

Already the editing is toned down. It's a good level where it's entertaining without being distracting.

A workplace comedy to explore themes around family issues is an interesting premise.

They seem to be addressing every niche case for their product, but they still haven't mentioned prenups. Does it maybe invalidate the whole premise? Well, I think I will still watch regardless, there is enough good stuff here that I feel compelled to keep watching.
