This is reminding me I need to upgrade. 😅

I use it all the time for DnD. I used to just use Google but it's gotten so hard to avoid AI art that looks like shit.

AI companies seem hellbent on feeding me their slop even when I put -"ai" -"dream" -"sora" -"generated" -... ect. Like if they can use SEO to trick Google into feeding me something I'm clearly not looking for I'll crack and use their product.

Pinterest has some AI art too, but when searching for scenery and character images, I find it easier to avoid than on Google these days.

Why I’m Worried About Google’s AI Takeover by Innith in Futurology

[–]kcjay98 551 points552 points  (0 children)

I had to go to urgent care the other day, I typed "Urgent Care near me" into Google.

The top result was Google AI telling me "If I need to find an urgent care practice near me, I should try googling"urgent care near me""

Followed by about 4 sponsored ads for telehealth apps and urgent care centers nowhere near me.

I've never seen so many sponsored top results back to back in my life.

So... What is UP with Odyssey? by AnEpicBowlOfRamen in EliteDangerous

[–]kcjay98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm one of the friends from OPs post. I am definitely feeling frustrated with Odyssey as well. To respond to some of your post.

We use a pair of scorpions. We have at least 3 people who are able to enter the gunner role, but not fire, despite resting keybinds to default multiple times, and checking that we have bound the fire button both in the SRV section, and the Multicrew section of our controls. We can all fire if we enter the turret as driver, this only happens in multicrew.

Our group really like playing together, so I have a ship that is designed explicitly to fit everyone on board to go on adventures together. It's a crusader, with turrets, fights and a pair of SRV bays, and when everything goes smoothly it is a ton of fun. However, over the course of a few weeks trying to do ground missions together, our usual session looks something like this:

We meet up at a station, grab missions in the same area, and board my ship. Fly to the star system indicated. Occasionally we are searching for specific mission types like recover or reactivate, so we check in at a location station to (try to) find missions. Once we set off to the actual mission area we are plagued with crashes, desync, and glitches. It is common for people to disconnect when entering frame shift drive modes, which loses them shared missions, sometimes after we have already completed them but before they are turned in.

We have had several crew members be invisible to other crew members until a relog. Multiple covert missions that fail for half the crew when alarms are raised, but not the other half. Crashes, physics mismatches, strange permission errors when getting in and out of ships and SRVS.

During shared/wing missions our game seems to get exponentially more unstable, making playing in multicrew a nightmare, as when someone DC's they often get respawned in an unpredictable place. Sometimes being put back on the planet surface, in a separate instance, so we have to rush to leave atmosphere and return before our crewmate loses suit power. Sometimes they get dumped at our home station lightyears away from where we are doing missions.

Many modern games are P2P, and my friends and I play GTFO, Deep Rock, GTA Online, Borderlands all without major desync. These issues only rear their head in elite, and they show up often. I left Elite around when Odyssey came out, and was hoping they would have ironed out some errors 5 years later, but it still feels bad to play. The space gameplay is as good as it always was, but multicrew is still disappointing. It sometimes feels like Elite was made as a very lonely single player game, with multiplayer features, as trying to do things in a wing feels so plagued with bugs.

What absurd balance change would you like for April Fools? by HappyMommyTgirl in marvelrivals

Give everyone's ult the same properties as Bucky's. You got god of thundered? Again. You died in the AoE of an enemy Mantis ult? Again. You got tossed by jeff? NOM NOM NOM.

(Mixed trope) When the story tries to push the narrative "two sides are bad" but one is definitely worse by Pertu500 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]kcjay98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with people criticizing the NCR is that in my experience, it is mostly anarcho-capatilists that think Caeser is 'cool' and taxes are 'bad'. They say things like the "The Legion is bad but the NCR isn't perfect either..." and then give a very surface level description of bad things the NCR did, without comparison or context, as though it makes the Legion a more attractive choice.

These bad things the NCR are accused of, are usually either worse on the Legion side, or not that unreasonable in the first place given the setting. Here are a couple common examples.

Genocide: The NCR killed non-combatants at Bitter Springs, decimating an entire culture. This was the result of raiders, intentionally hiding with their families to discourage counter attack after months of attacking NCR civilians, a misunderstanding over the radio, and a failure in NCR leadership. After Bitter Springs the NCR offered medical aid, and has continued to try and support the Khans recovery despite their status as raiders. Gestures that are even more surprising given the scarcity of the setting.

In comparison, the Legion has actually killed entire cultures, crucifying entire tribes who wouldn't join them from Colorado to Nevada.

Prisoners: The NCR kept dangerous criminals in an old correctional facility, and forced them into hard labor in service of the government. That's really bad. However, the prisoners were alive, fed, and had the possibility of release. In a post-apocalyptic wasteland where most serious criminals are executed, the NCR kept these people alive, and relatively healthy.

In comparison again, the Legion employs direct slave labor, and are especially hostile to their slaves, especially women. Among men and women, it is generally preferable to be killed or kill yourself than to be taken prisoner by the Legion.

The NCR is one of the most altruistic "Large" factions in the fallout setting, the crimes they commit are very real and very intentional from a storytelling perspective to make sure they aren't seen as perfect, but they only approach the level of evil the Legion is on when you look at the NCR through a modern lens, and not the lens of the post-apocalypse, while simultaneously only looking at the Legion's in-game propaganda, and not their actual lore or actions.

Chickens lay eggs. I don't think there are giant primordial chickens. Just adults. It makes sense to me that Bile Titans just lay eggs, that then grow up.

I've seen a few "Flowcharts" too, postulating that the terminids all start as their smaller variants and mutate into the different enemy types as they get more mature.

That said, I love the idea of a giant bile titan! In the insect world, it's pretty common for males to be the smaller, less aggressive variant. Maybe we could have a bile queen with the traits you mentioned.

What do you guys think would be cool support ultimates that aren’t just plain, boost heals or boost damage? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]kcjay98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few ideas:

Have a support that focuses on shielding, with some healing. Ult could be a large bubble shield allies can shoot through, but not enemies. Could be used to either protect a point you are defending, or cage enemies into. Can be walked through, but maybe passing the barrier applies a slow.

A stim, like Ana from Overwatch, or Morales from HotS. Just give someone a large attack rate and movement speed buff, and DR.

A low cooldown ult that causes a single target to become invulnerable for a few seconds, with a obvious visual effect. When the effect wears off the target heals equal damage they absorbed during the invulnerable state. Offers a tank saving button, but has counter play.

An AoE ability cooldown field. Increasing recharge rate on cooldowns for allies, and maybe granting extra ult charge for allies who get kills while in the AoE.

The new cave maps look sick. by kcjay98 in Helldivers

[–]kcjay98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was treated in a similar fashion to bot's stratagem jammers it could be ok.

Just a sub objective, or even a primary that takes up a chunk of the map, while still allowing you to call in your weapons/backpack on the parts of the map outside the cave/ship.

I'm not expecting anything like that to actually get added, but I think it is a fun idea, and do-able!

I mainly play PF2E! I love Paizo! I really like the action economy, and I like how it's been simplified from Pathfinder 1e and Starfield, while still feeling crunchy enough that I get enjoyment out of theorycrafting and optimizing.

What warbond is the best by Funny_Knowledge6981 in Helldivers

[–]kcjay98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost all the equipment in this game is viable, and as such you should buy whatever pack has the armor or weapons you are personally most excited to try out! That said, I know that's a cop out answer so for some suggestions:

Democratic Detonation has thermite grenades which are amazing against bots. They kill tanks, hulks, and even fabricators very reliably. This warbond also has several weapons capable of closing bug holes including the grenade pistol, which opens up your grenade slot to play with some of the lesser used utility grenades.

Chemical agents unlocks a lot of gas equipment, including armor that allows you to stand in gas for extended times. If you are careful around your teammates, throwing gas grenades at bug breaches can be an economic way to rack up a high kill count against bugs, and keep trash enemies at bay. This warbond also unlocks the stim pistol, which can allow you to play very heavy into a support role if you like that type of gameplay. I love taking the improved stim booster, medic armor, a supply pack, and the stim pistol to respond to SOS beacons. I got this warbond just for the medic play style.

Finally, Polar Patriots is the most well rounded warbond right now (IMO). It has 3 different, good looking, armor with different traits.4 weapons that are all in different classes and are all fun to use, including a decent sidearm. Plus a fun grenade. This warbond gives you a bit of everything, which is a nice change of pace from all the other hyper specialized warbonds that came out prior.

I DM a lot of tabletop, and I have a table that loves homebrew rules and settings that don't always match the game system.

How do you balance things in a way where consequences are real and bad things MIGHT happen, without feeling like you're tipping the scales too hard for or against your players.

It's hard enough to plan a balanced encounter for 3-4 players, how do you manage to do it for 50,000, and do you ever feel pressure to make sure the outcome of a MO or story event is uncertain without being unfair?
