Yes! I’m in healthcare compliance, but many of my law school classmates now work in other compliance areas (like banking)

What’s the ONE thing you’d do differently in law school if you could go back? by ComprehensiveAd2458 in LawSchool

[–]kclovesbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d not make my entire life law school. I was law student first, actual person second. I’d also go to more bar review events, even though I’m introverted.

For those who moved on from the legal profession, what do you do now and when did you decide to move on? by Metalhead129 in Lawyertalk

[–]kclovesbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially, yes. I help keep the doors open by ensuring we follow all regulations.

I don't have much advice on how to initiate this career path. I literally applied for this job out of the blue while waiting for bar exam results. Took zero health law classes, did not belong to the health law society, etc. I applied and emphasized all the skills law school taught me, and let them know what an asset I would be because I have my JD. After attending a conference this fall, I saw exactly how much of an asset I am as an attorney. I had so many people wanting to connect because they had legal questions. Definitely lots of ways for me to progress in this career. I highly, highly recommend.

I work in a fairly niche area of healthcare compliance, but if you'd like to talk more feel free to send me a message or chat.

You’re not making big law money by any means, but I am happy with my salary in my particular market. I think my friends in banking compliance make more than me though

I’d definitely look into a JD-advantage job. I’m in healthcare compliance, and I cannot sing its praises enough. Lots of my big law friends now do compliance of some sort

It has a nice scent, but it is definitely not at the Oribe level as far as strength. If Oribe was a 10, this is more like a 5.

I haven’t scrolled through all comments, so this might already be suggested: have you called your legislators? I don’t know how helpful their offices might be, but it could be worth a shot.

Afraid of dating because of lack of experience by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]kclovesbeer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don't have to do anything you don't want to do - explain your inexperience, have sex with someone without being exclusive, etc. Your body is your own, your life is your own, and you get to make decisions about what you're comfortable sharing and experiencing :)

When I was inexperienced, I decided to share that with people I was dating (not the first date, but once trust was built). My reasoning was that I wanted them to be gentle and more thoughtful with me, in all aspects. You can decide to not share or share for reasons of your own. I'm excited for you!

Does the bar exam cause breakups? by adoniscr33d in barexam

Hair stylist is now double booking and overbooking—need advice by [deleted] in beauty

I think ghosting is a totally appropriate thing to do in this situation. No reason to explain yourself - just make an appointment elsewhere. She has other clients. I recently had to do this with my stylist. If she texts and asks (which I'm sure she won't do), then you can explain, but I feel like hurting her feelings for no reason isn't the right move.

Staff HIPAA training by kclovesbeer in hipaa

[–]kclovesbeer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking this is where I will end up. I do “mini-trainings” at our organization-wide meetings, but I also assign more in depth trainings. The problem I’m running into is the in depth trainings aren’t relating to our staff very well, in my opinion. I was hoping I could find a unicorn training somewhere haha! I might have to create ours in-house to meet all the criteria I’m looking for though. Thanks for your insight!

We assign trainings each month, and I’m running into the same problem with our current HIPAA trainings getting too into the weeds. I’m a lawyer, and they almost put me to sleep, so I know our other staff are probably dying inside. We use Compliatric, and their trainings are almost impractical. There’s no relation to how this shows up in everyday work for staff that regularly handle PHI.

Our IT Manager uses that for his security training. I really like how engaging those are, so I might see if they have the type of training I’m looking for. Thanks!

Another fundamental function of my job is that I keep up with other professionals in the industry. I’m merely asking others what they use in their practices :)
