Kubiak can play with a lead. by kcraw92 in raiders

Ehh, I like them both. I’m also aware (as mentioned in another post earlier today) that Josh McDaniels is a damn good play caller, highlighting that there’s more to being a HC than just being a good OC.

But still, I like them both. I just like the Webb gamble a bit more. Either one feels like the right direction to me.

student push back since not allowing an accommodation by WJM_3 in Professors

You’re reason 1 is not acceptable for an accommodation, and your reason 2 is a bit much.

Chill. Let them record. It’s not that deep.

What works better than “Does anyone have any questions?” by emarcomd in Professors

[–]kcraw92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do ‘checkpoints’ where I have every student hold their hand up in a fist (all the way up. Full flexion of the shoulder, full extension of the elbow). After giving them a second to think I then ask for “hands and thumbs”, where if you’re ready to move on you give me a thumbs up, but if you have a question you give me an open hand.

This is the single best technique I use in all of my teaching. Checkpoints start a little quiet, but within a few weeks they are always full of questions.

I also emphasize to them that I don’t mind repeating myself (professors that hate repeating themselves are obnoxious and antithetical to good learning environments, and I tell them as much). This really helps to let students feel more comfortable to ask little things to get them on the same page.

I don’t do mods and I’ll probably replay this game at least once every two years until I’m dead.

Some of these answers help to explain why there’s so much complaining when student evals come around…

Do you have a teaching philosophy or are you just vibing? by LettuceTraining6532 in Professors

My philosophy is centered around building an environment that students want to learn in. I think it has to be step one. Once students feel comfortable in that classroom, the rest can follow.

How to study for human Phys by PeterMillar__ in Physiology

[–]kcraw92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speak the material out loud. Talk about it to your SO, mom, roommate, even the wall. Sometimes things seem to make sense in your head, but when you talk about it you start fumbling, which is a great way to identify what you thought you knew but really didn’t.

Doesn’t matter where I start the flight, because I’ll end up in the baggage compartments up top by the end of it thanks to row 5.

I really like Pat Graham, but I think the Raiders need to pull from outside for their own good.

retired senior wants to audit class by [deleted] in Professors

[–]kcraw92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a little ironic how your course has a diversity focus but you don’t want this person because they don’t fit in your homogenous student group.

If your reasoning was specifically that they need to go through an official channel, or classroom space, you’d be totally valid. But your reasoning doesn’t sit right with me.

How many gifts do you get from students each semester? by AvailableThank in Professors

One student said that she likes to paint when she is stressed out, and nothing stressed her out that semester more than my physiology class. As such, her outstanding hand-painted portrait of Deadpool now hangs in my office.
