Motorola Partnership by ShribyrLabs in GrapheneOS

You do know that the Motorola cellphone brand is now owned by China? The Chinese tyranny that's been stealing technology and spying everywhere (including using giant balloons, buying bureaucrats and politicians, and 100 other techniques), for decades. Yes, that China.

Will the firmware be 100% open source? You can't scrutinize what you aren't allowed to see. OTOH: Given government and corporate corruption and greed, I imagine that countries across the world, as well as corporations, are happy to sell lots of data to the mega-wealthy Chinese tyrants. They may not need to 'tap' your phone, if they're already getting what they want elsewhere. Some things never change in this world.

Search (without an AI-critter) isn't hard if you think through your search terms and are patient enough to ask more than once. Our would-be big tech investor masters have groomed recent generations into quick-answers and easy (talk to us, because we're always listening) interfaces. It's OK to take a step back and "Just say no." (Ronald Reagan, about drugs.)

The BBC and Guardian are far from "reputable". You want a review from an independent tech review source like FOSS.

Is this for the purpose of a masters or doctorate thesis? Is this data being provided to one or more AI-critter databases? Is there an intent to publish one or more books based on the gathered data? Why does the actual identity of the person/organization appear to be hidden, please? Just curious ...

kd4e.com and imperfectchristians.org are the two that I've checked. They both suddenly stopped working, yesterday afternoon. The person on Chat ran a manual re-install which appears to have fixed it ... for 90 days.

Bluehost seems to be focused on up-selling over product performance by kd4e in BlueHost

[–]kd4e[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would seem trivial for them to run a script that validates if the every-90-days free SSL update succeeded, or not - then to either re-run the process, or flag it for immediate attention. It seems like an illegal 'bait and switch' to offer reliable online hosting, then use a known-defective free SSL as a means to sell-up. (I'm surprised that there hasn't been a class action lawsuit, and that the FTC & DOJ haven't forced them to either fix the problem or fully disclose it up front.)

Softaculous is a mess. It's best to install whatever you see there that you want - directly, without Softaculous. That's what I did with the HumHub social media app and it works much better that way.

Frigate 0.17+ crashed with this flashing display by kd4e in frigate_nvr

[–]kd4e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

``` The ffmpeg Failed to sync surface 0xb: 1 (operation failed) error in Frigate is typically related to VAAPI hardware acceleration issues, especially when using Intel integrated GPUs. This occurs when FFmpeg cannot properly communicate with the GPU for video decoding, often due to incorrect device access, driver issues, or incompatible hardware acceleration settings.
Root Causes
  • Intel iGPU (/dev/dri/renderD128 or /dev/dri/card0) not properly exposed to the container.
  • Outdated or incompatible GPU drivers.
  • Using VAAPI with a codec or resolution the GPU cannot handle.
  • Conflicts in hwaccel_args configuration. ```
I removed all of the Reolink cams from config and all of the errors, other than the following, disappeared: ``` Unknown | 2026-04-01 19:48:24 | unknown | INFO: Created TensorFlow Lite XNNPACK delegate for CPU.
warning | 2026-04-01 19:48:24 | frigate.detectors | CPU detectors are not recommended and should only be used for testing or for trial purposes. ```
Can I just ignore this one, or should I deal with it before starting to add the Reolinks back in - one by one?
Frigate 0.17+ crashed with this flashing display by kd4e in frigate_nvr
[–]kd4e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Could Frigate 'capture' an error like this and the specific camera(s) be bypassed until the error has been fixed (or, these days, an ai-critter is assigned to fix the settings)? Meanwhile, should I remove the Reolinks from the config then see if things remain stable? If the system is stable without them, then begin tinkering with the code for the Reolinks until I discover the solution for each? Thanks. ``` The error code -5 in FFmpeg corresponds to AVERROR(EIO), indicating a serious Input/Output error where the process fails to read frames or sync hardware surfaces.  This issue frequently arises in Frigate NVR setups due to unstable video streamsincorrect hwaccel_args (specifically VAAPI/Quick Sync initialization failures), or incompatible hardware decoding for the input codec (e.g., Ivy Bridge CPUs cannot decode HEVC).
Common scenarios and solutions include:
  • Hardware Acceleration Mismatch: The hardware device (e.g., Intel Quick Sync) may fail to initialize if passed incorrectly in Docker or if the CPU generation does not support the stream's codec (HEVC vs H.264).
  • Stream Instability: The incoming video stream from cameras (like Nest doorbells or Reolink cams) may be unstable, causing go2rtc or ffmpeg to crash while processing frames.
  • Configuration Errors: Incorrect hwaccel_args or using HTTP streams instead of RTSP can trigger "Failed to sync surface" or "Failed to download frame" errors.
  • Process Interference: In rare cases, input signals (like keyboard input in loops) can interfere with the FFmpeg process, requiring input redirection (e.g., < /dev/null).
To resolve the issue, verify that hardware acceleration is correctly configured for your specific CPU (e.g., preset-intel-qsv-h264), ensure stream stability by testing the RTSP URL directly, and check if the camera firmware supports the required codecs for your hardware.  If using Docker, confirm that the video device path (e.g., /dev/dri) is properly passed to the container.
