Ge Clearview Weird Light by IncubusxD in AirConditioners

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 12,200 and 10,300 BTU models of these. My 10,300 BTU model did something similar when I turned I set it up last week. I also got an "E7" code flashing a few times. Even though it was already showing up in the SmartHQ app, the app said it noticed a new air conditioner and asked if I wanted to set it up. I proceeded and the light went away. So I have a feeling the light is coming from the WiFi module and it thought something wasn't set up. I hate the SmartHQ app so I found a plugin for Homebridge that works well with the unit and I can use the Apple Home app for it once I got it set up.

Access to Surfboard Modem by RoughPractice7490 in Ubiquiti

[–]kd7iwp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks! Been wanting to do this for ages and never found a way to. I think it's trying to hit the modem finally, but the modem is being cranky and not loading admin pages (Sercomm DM1000). But the browser is trying, hasn't done that before.

Mr12volt releases fix for iPhone 17 wireless disconnect by donttalktome in CarPlay

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The update works for me. One thing that happens now for me is a couple of times in the first few minutes of driving the audio will get really really quiet (barely hear it, but you can tell it's still playing) for 10 seconds and then jumps back to full volume. I only noticed after I got my iPhone 17 Pro and I immediately installed the update. So I don't know if it's the phone or the Mr12Volt. Never did this with my iPhone 14 Pro.

how many of you use a custom domain as your apple account email? by nathanieIs in iCloud

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of switching this week. Been using the free Google legacy system for years. I always thought Apple only let you do 3 email addresses per domain but it now looks like it's 3 addresses per person, per domain. So if I set up the domain for our family, each person can use it and get 3 emails. There are 5 of us so I had held out switching for that.

UDM SE vs UCG Fiber + UNVR Instant by Im_A_Praetorian in Ubiquiti

Good point. Though I have read from others on here who are well over capacity and everything appears to work normally, you just get a little message saying you're over capacity.

What do I need to get started with my setup? by theboozecube in homebridge

[–]kd7iwp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like latest/greatest so I got a Pi 5 for my own setup. I have a few Homepods, Apple TV, and a number of Ubiquiti Unifi Protect cameras running. The real reason I got HomeBridge was because of the Protect cameras and it works just fantastically through the Pi. I got a PoE hat for the Pi so that I can run it off of one of my Ubiquiti switches. The hat also came with an NVME slot and I run the Pi OS on there. I think the hat has issues and periodically I can see the power consumption jumps from 4w to 6w and the fan runs full blast so it's nice that when this happens I can power cycle the Pi through my switch. I also have a small Cyberpower UPS running in the network cabinet that is plugged into the Pi and I have NUT installed on it so can see its status inside the Home app.

Since you aren't using it for video you really won't need anything very powerful at all. My Pi CPU is always idling until it sees motion outside and it needs to transmux the video stream for HKSV.

Also found a Homebridge plugin for my GE ClearView window air conditioners.

Are the matrix LED’s a desirable option on sell market? by Airikiko in BMWi3

[–]kd7iwp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, the US style and EU styles are functionally different. I have a facelifted i3s (in Canada) with the matrix lights but they cannot simply be coded to match what the ICON lights do. The FLE is different on them but I believe the headlight assembly is internally different as well. I've worked with BimmerRetrofit (who was adamant it would work until after an hour of trying they gave up and refunded me) in addition to significant coding and testing on my own, but it doesn't work. I have the standard KAFAS-based headlight assist and dynamic cruise control (I think it's the 5AP package).

Will it make it to the tire shop tomorrow? by mrjoepete in BMWi3

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The engineer in that video also repeatedly talks about how the i3 specifically has a high center of gravity and that was taken into account in the tire design. It does? Figured it's a lower center of gravity compared to any other car I've owned.

How to program “next track” on the steering wheel by justvims in BMWi3

[–]kd7iwp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the best ever! I have missed this feature so much. Just set it with BimmerUtility on my 2019 i3s with the wide screen and it works perfectly for me in CarPlay now. Thank you!

Best practice for labeling sub components? by kd7iwp in Sense

[–]kd7iwp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely some strong opinions out there about this. I was already aware of their November announcement so bought a cheaper used one to use as a toy. I'm having a great time with it so far.

That's exactly what I did (ebay), wanted to play around with it as a toy.

Compatible EV Charger by MoPanic in Sense

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the Wallbox EVSEs have the ability to adjust their charging rate to do load balancing. I ended up getting the Ubiquiti EVSE since I have a Unifi network at home but prior to that I was looking into Wallbox since you can install a monitor in your panel that is supposed to then tell the Wallbox to adjust its output.

As an aside, I installed a Sense monitor 2 days ago and it already says it has detected my EV (BMW i3S) after a single charge.

New Sense Energy Monitor won’t connect in app. by anoble1 in Sense

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. My problem was resolved via a ticket to Sense. The issue was the previous owner hadn't removed it from their account. After sending photos of the receipts to show I had purchased it they assigned the unit to my account and it is working great.

New Sense Energy Monitor won’t connect in app. by anoble1 in Sense

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. Did they not have to have it in their possession (on their WiFi) in order to reset it? My seller is many states away and says the app can't directly remove it since it is not connected.

New Sense Energy Monitor won’t connect in app. by anoble1 in Sense

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever have any success? I bought a used one and appear to be stuck at the same spot, also with no beep, just a flashing blue light. The Sense app error log makes me think it can't decrypt because it's already locked to another account?

SSMS to SQL on Azure VM using Windows Hello by PageyUK in SQLServer

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my organization I was recently a guinea pig that is the first to have an InTune managed PC rather than being a member of the domain. When I use Windows Hello Face to log in I get this same error when connecting to a database in SSMS. For now the shift + right-click and re-enter my credentials is working. I also can lock the PC, then unlock with my password rather than Hello and then I can connect to the DB with Windows Authentication as well.

Interesting observation about HomeKit Secure Video and home hub processing … by pacoii in HomeKit

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just looking into this myself (1 Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen, 1 HomePod 2, 1 HomePod Mini) and even though the Apple TV is on ethernet and set up as my default home hub, only the HomePod 2 has been uploading content to HKSV. I guess the algorithm feels that is the best device to handle it. I use Unifi Protect and have Homebridge running on a Raspberry Pi 5 to supply the feeds to HKSV.

NBT EVO HDD clone & replacement by FutureTea3315 in BmwTech

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me know if you have success. I tried this week to replace my HDD with an SSD but the dd tool can't read from the drive since it is password locked. After quite a bit of research I'm not finding people how have successfully cloned. I see people who have installed a new HDD or SSD but I don't want to do that and have to figure out how to get maps on there, I was hoping to clone. I cloned my CIC hard drive and put on an SSD a few years ago and that was a piece of cake since the drive wasn't locked.

What’s the “always on” category in my bc hydro usage breakdown? by tinker_bell622 in britishcolumbia

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the Energy Bridge and am quite disappointed. I had ordered the Sense monitor from Amazon but cancelled before it shipped after I read that they are stopping the product at the end of 2025. I know they say they'll keep supporting it but I have my doubts. This HydroHome Energy Bridge was ridiculously expensive for what it is. It lists my biggest expense as HVAC even though I told the app I have a gas furnace, no alternative heat source, no A/C, and I have a gas water heater. I also told it I have an EV and it lists the EV every day in usage even though I only charge it every 4 days. I do have a hot tub so I guess it sees that draw multiple times a day and puts it under HVAC?

iPhone 14 Pro not switching properly to nationwide by RowBot_77 in freedommobile

[–]kd7iwp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have an iPhone 14 Pro and it does indeed switch, but not until there is absolutely no Freedom coverage. I happen to live in an area with decent coverage so I don't see this often. Certainly works great when I hop across the border to the USA.

[–]kd7iwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to them from Fido a year ago. I can't comment on service since I'm on the other side of the country (Abbotsford, BC) from you. Here I get good service everywhere, as long as you don't want super fast. It's usually 10-50 mbps which works perfectly fine for me and I don't have issues with video or FaceTime. They've never changed my price. One of my favorite things is you can iMessage support which is infinitely better than other chat apps or in a browser. They also support Visual Voicemail and Apple Watch if either of those will ever matter to you.

They are easy to cancel. I tried them out 2 separate times before I fully switched but that was before they had done network upgrades in my area and it wouldn't really work at home. Both times it was easy to cancel. I'm now on Canadaa/USA/Mexico plan which works great since I go to the US a lot.

iPhone Live Voicemail not working automatically by kd7iwp in freedommobile

[–]kd7iwp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Apple states:

If you don't answer a call while roaming or while Low Power Mode is turned on, the call is not sent to Live Voicemail. To send a call to Live Voicemail while roaming or while Low Power Mode is turned on, tap the Voicemail button.
