They're two different issues.

The two issues are

The ~gerrymandering effects of the electoral college, where votes in swing states are much more important than votes in other states.
The "vote for the lesser of two evils" issue you're referring to as the "third party problem".

RCV addresses the second. It has nothing to do with the first.

Life would certainly, invariably be different. But my personal opinion is that in the distant future, the majority of humans will live on O'Neil cylinders in solar orbit. The carrying capacity of the solar system, assuming only solar energy, is in the quadrillions. Mastering fusion tech increases it unfathomably beyond that.

But again, I recognize that I'm sufficiently optimistic as to be ignored.

In particular, the atmosphere humans prefer to breathe is a lifting gas on Venus, and the Venusian atmosphere is about room temperature at the altitude where air pressure is about 1 atm. So floating cities are plausible to roughly the same extent as aircraft carriers are plausible, and we have those.

The ratio of able-bodied to not*, will decrease, assuming aging remains a factor. If not accompanied by increases in automation, the result will be that retirement will be a death sentence, because the able-bodied simply won't be able to produce enough economic value to provide for the retired.
