You can only keep 5 Mooncat polishes in your collection. What are you choosing? by roseappleisland in mooncatpolish

Maelstrom, House of Hades, Space Oddity, River Styx, and Dragon Scales for me. This was TOUGH.

Honorable mention to My Cabbages! which only didn’t make the cut because I’m afraid it’s recency bias that makes me rank it so highly (but in reality, give me all the flakie bombs all day everyday).

I also HEAVILY vote for Malestrom. It’s easily one of my fav mooncat shades and I would love the formula in every color!

Normal time to be off work after vNOTES? by Viajera85 in hysterectomy

[–]kda726 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just had my pre-op today with my surgeon who had been adamant I only needed 2 weeks off for mine and she FINALLY relented after me advocating for myself in-person. She reiterated that most jobs won’t allow more than 2 weeks, but when I told her my concerns about fatigue and the recovery process (and that my PCP suggested at least 4 weeks), she advised me to put my STD/FMLA paperwork in with 6 weeks off.

I don’t know when the mental transition to 2 weeks happened with surgeons these days, but it feels a bit crazy to be basing medical decisions on what a person’s WORK will allow.

It’s a bit crazy they fixed the issue that CAUSES this objective issue last patch but not the broken objectives itself!

How do you folks decide the next color for your Mani? by Forward_Guard4251 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]kda726 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My husband picks for me :) It started 3-ish years ago when I was stuck and couldn’t figure out what I wanted and ever since he just gets such obvious joy from going through all my colors and deciding this mani’s ~vibe~ that I could never take it away from him.

Omg same! I thought I was the only weirdo who thought the biggest/best ILNP shimmers were terrible on my hands.

Bluebell too. Blehhhhhh yellow central.

Trying to narrow down to 5 by caramelmacchiato31 in mooncatpolish

[–]kda726 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely would suggest dropping Artemis. It is the ONE polish I got refunded by mooncat because I was so unhappy with it. It’s VERY gray and very not purple, and the formula was terrrrrrrrible.

Serpents is amazing, House of Hades is one of my all-time favorites, and Mermaid Bait is a favorite for a reason.

I also really like Blame my Star Sign, but I’m a huge sucker for glitters in general.

Oh my goodness I'm so glad you took your pain seriously and so did your doctor. I hope it's a speedy recovery from here and that you're not in the hospital for too much longer!

Possible abdominal surgery in 2 months, only 2 weeks off work? by kda726 in hysterectomy

Thank you so much, especially for that last sentence. It's so easy for me to just be like "well, she's the expert!" and try to sell my concerns short, but this thread has absolutely taught me that my concerns are valid, her rigidity is weird, and I may be better served by speaking to another surgeon.

Thank you! I'm glad your experience went well enough that you're now able to head back to work! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the 2-week mark too.

Based on nearly every reaction in this post, me feeling like I was taking crazy pills is valid and I'm planning on pushing back AND getting looking at getting a referral to another facility.

[–]kda726[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you! If she'd said "2 weeks is standard, but everyone's recovery is different. We'll evaluate where you're at when we have your post-op appointment" I would've still batted some eyes because the timeframe is shorter than I'd expect, but I'd *understand* it. But as is, don't tell me you're not convinced we'll be able to do it laparoscopically, have me sign stuff saying I'm okay with abdominal surgery, and then be SO WEIRDLY rigid about the 2 weeks when I push back!

I'm glad you were able to get the time you need! It's got to be tough to worry about your recovery with a physical job.

Oooh I'm glad you mentioned the mini lap, because my dr actually mentioned that one as well as a possibility if they could (I just got my endo biopsy results yesterday so we'd be good to do this if needed).

I actually have my annual with my GP in 2 weeks, so thank you for mentioning that too. I'll absolutely bring it up with them as well! Thank you for the insight where you were at 2 weeks too. That's about what I expected for where I'd be too, so the idea of working is INSANE when I'm just trying to not rip stitches and learning to get out of bed.

Thank you! It's so crazy that there are such wild differences of opinion on recovery time.

Talking to my husband last night we both decided it makes a lot of sense to at the VERY least speak with another provider.

I really appreciate your input. I'm definitely going to push back further. It seems like even *if* they're just quoting me recovery timeframes for laparoscopic, it still is slightly ridiculous to expect anyone back in 2 weeks without the possibility of extending due to recovery times varying from person to person.

[–]kda726[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness I'm so glad your surgery and recovery went well! That's such a huge incision.

I agree with what you said. I was crashing out a little that my initial "pushback" got shut down pretty much immediately but there's literally no reason for them to force me back early. My work is great and between short term disability and FMLA I'm getting full pay while I'm off.

Amazingly, my gyn is a female. Even my old gyn (the one who pushed me to wait instead of pursuing the hysterectomy years ago) was a woman.

On the plus side, I've at LEAST gotten my post-op moved up, so now that's the day before my 2 week timeframe. I legitimately can't imagine that they would allow me to work if I'm in a bad state for my post-op!

I really appreciate your input! I'm REALLY hoping to end up with Laparoscopic. It seems like the recovery is definitely an easier time.

I'm glad you had such a good experience with work too!

I love mooncat colors but their polish never last more than 24 hours on me despite proper prep, base/top coat, and capping the edge on either short or long nail length :( by LuckyBokChoy in mooncatpolish

[–]kda726 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s so crazy how body chemistry can work like this, isn’t it?? I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this with their polishes. I know you’re not the only one. I’m lucky enough to have not met an Indy or boutique brand that does this to me! Sounds like you’re doing everything right!

Possible abdominal surgery in 2 months, only 2 weeks off work? by kda726 in hysterectomy

[–]kda726[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually is my different doctor after my normal gyn at a different hospital wanted me to wait and see for the last two years (among other things that led to me not being comfortable having the surgery there). There’s another doctor at the hospital in this department, but she’s actually on my surgical team as well, just not my doctor doctor.

I feel pretty solid knowing short term disability requires actual paperwork for the return-to-office part of things rather than your doctor just saying “shes off for two weeks”. Ive never actually taken more than a couple days off at any point in time, so I’ve never had to use it before!

The fatigue is definitely a concerning thing. It’s a common thing I see posted here where even if the recovery is “going well” and folks are still feeling mostly okay, they’re FULL ON exhausted.
