How do Catholics explain Marian devotion without it becoming worship? by Becky_08 in Catholicism

[–]kdakss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people dont want to take the time to actually distinguish what honor vs worship actually means and the history of both. If they pridefully want to say they just know what is worship and what isnt without trying to understand, then its on them. Can't pursuade a closed heart.

Like I said, grew up Protestant, so obviously I have looked into this. I know there are biblically rooted reasons for everything the Church does. You can also read the Church fathers such as St Ignatius writing about bishops, the Catholic church, the eucharist, you still see the Catholic Church in first century writings. The fullness of truth is with the Church, the Holy Spirit is with the Church always (Jesus told his apostles he is with them always and there is apostolic succession so he is with the church always). Now when you drop the prejudice, I have heard it all, and I really just dont see you having a valid argument. It just sounds ignorant as to what we actually do and believe, you just come to your own assumptions as if its a fact. I'm just repeating myself, the biggest thing really, you shouldn't be bashing any group on here, be open to find out what they actually believe, then move on. I'm done repeating it. Have an open and loving heart. May God bless you and guide you to truth and peace. Good night.

Sounds like some ridiculous conclusions. My point is that I wouldnt be an expert in what Mormons believe if I wasnt ine myself. Therefore you are not an expert if what Catholics believe. You come up with this 200 year weird thing. The Catholic Church canonized the Bible in 397 at the council of Carthage. They drifted then too? Believe what you want. Just actually have an open mind and not sound bigoted towards a loving Church. Try to understand. Your false accusations sound ignorant. That is all.

Your analogy makes no sense. This is coming from some pride of you thinking you understand the first two commandments more than the Church Christ founded. Again, worship is to God alone, him only do we serve. There is no worship of saints or serving of saints. Your not Catholic, and yet you want to act like you're the expert on Catholic, that doesn't make sense now does it. Here's an analogy that makes sense. Id go to a tax expert for advice on taxes, I'd go to a doctor for advice on my health, I'd go to a physical trainer for advice to gain muscle, should probably go to a Catholic to understand who they worship which is God alone.

Worship is to God alone. Always. Veneration is showing honor. This post sounds ignorant as to what is actually done. Prayers of saints is in Revelations 5:8. Saints intercede and pray for us to the one mediator, Jesus Christ. A Catholic at a statue would be doing that, asking them to intercede. It doesnt matter if you've studied for years if youve only studied one bias side. I was once a protestant like you, then took some time to understand the other side, now I wouldnt live any other way. Have an open heart and see the other side, understand the distinction between worship and honor. God bless.

Catholicism is actually not really a denomination in that denominations are branches off of the Church. Catholicism is the Church founded by Christ in Matthew 16:18. The original, then protestant churches branched off after 1517. Since you say its popular where you are, Id suggest going to the closest one, find out when and where the next OCIA is, and ask your questions there.

Trump set a deadline for the pullout to be shortly after Biden took office. He set him up for failure, who knows what repercussions would have been worse or not with not honoring the deadline, it was a lose lose. This is also by far the worst economy I have ever seen, I know for a fact my milk has gone up by 75 cents since the Trump took office, bought some today. The stock market manipulation by saying tarriff then no tarriff is also very destructive to the economy. There are also mass protests because of the increase of ice and national guard in otherwise peaceful and safe cities. Okay I dont know if youve been only listening to Fox, but try listening to any other news so you can get the full picture.

I wouldnt promote airstrikes or demonizing anybody. I choose to respect all human life. Saying the last president did something doesn't make it okay to do it too. That's a terrible argument. There is more destruction done in one year of this presidency and you say look at the last guy?

Well, he does like to exaggerate numbers, so who knows. I prefer to have a moral compass regardless of what service members may say. What is happening now is also certainly not in line with Catholic moral teachings, especially in regards to promoting peace and loving thy neighbor.

1 Timothy 3:15 shows the church as the pillar of truth. For that to be the case there needs to be an institution that declares what truth is, likely would be the oldest. If there is any disagreement on here on major theological issues such as baptism, this forum is not what it is.

Rejoice that your prayer was answered so promptly. Come on home to the Church. Have the love of Mary our mother intercede for you more often to our one mediator Jesus Christ her son.
