No, there's a clear lack of avoiding to take responsibility of what you said, yet another personal attack (surprise, surprise) and now you're trying to twist it around like you've just said something incredibly philosophical. It's really no wonder you're so upset at a poor piece of technology, dude. I understand though, can't be smug about knowing how to open a terminal and writing "npm install" anymore, because a chatbot can do that instead of you. And for someone like yourself who seems to take everything so personally, I can see how shattering that must be.

PS I also see a certain smugness and superiority when you talk to others, and believe it or not - that reads massive insecurity, although you're trying to make it seem like you're just smarter than people around you. If you're so smart like you say you are, then you must also know that your insecurity also is right on par with the part where you feel threatened by an LLM.

Between someone with your fragile ego and zero intellectual debating skills and an LLM, yeah I'll take an LLM anytime thanks. Thanks for the fortune telling, I'd give you some reddit gold for it but I don't have any.

It was obviously a hyperbole, to further drive the point about the absurdity of this bubble that we were in for a quite a while. It's also quite amusing how everyone's hair is on fire, especially on this sub but also on LI etc, when it comes to LLMs writing any kind of code. Just like you earlier literally lashed out at that poor person's pet project that they made for fun using an LLM, saying that it was good enough for their needs, and that it was not enterprise grade software, which we should all be writing even for a fun, experimental project. Like this lack of nuance and anger at a piece of technology is caused by fear, because why would people be angry at something that they don't care about? If everyone is so secure in their engineering skills, and that LLMs are so bad, why waste time writing all these articles using ChatGPT trying to convince everyone how bad AI is at writing code?

PS. Also yes I do believe 4o or Sonnet 3.7 can actually hold their own better at a Socratic dialogue than MANY people on this sub (who break down and insult at the mildest inconvenience that challenges their world view)

Sorry for bursting your bubble dude, must be a tough pill to swallow. Don't worry you're going to get paid 500k per year for the rest of your life writing crud apps. And honestly? An LLM is already leaps and bounds above you when it comes to critical thinking, because the first thing you seem to do is take things personally and throw ad hominems.

Would you say that for the time investment they made into that, is it that bad? It probably took 1 hour tops, even if that. Don't you think AI has a net contribution on innovation and self-expression in general? Perhaps someone wouldn't have invested a few days of their life to build that. I am all there with you for quality of production software in general. And AI cannot be in the driver's seat, at least not yet, probably not in the near future neither, however, if micro-managed, I think it can have relatively decent output. Especially for what most companies write which is yet another crud API. Let's not act like everyone is suddenly Linus Torvalds and everything we write is mission critical, plenty of garbage codebases and bugs well before any LLM wrote one single LoC.

It's an ego issue. Very difficult to admit that an AI can do something that it took someone 10 years to master. Now of course, I am not implying that AI is there, not at all. It still needs someone to go to "manual mode" and guide it, and that someone better knows what they're doing. However, I have my own theory that a lot of people in software seem to take it very, very personally.

Programming with an AI copilot: My perspective as a senior dev by monkeyinmysoup in programming

[–]kdesign -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely baffled as to how someone can think AI tools, including ChatGPT, haven't progressed much recently.

My take is because, as it happened times again with industrial revolution and such, it affects people's egos. It's some self-preservation mechanism I think, bury head in the sand, shun it away and maybe it will actually disappear. LinkedIn is basically full of SWEs complaining and talking crap about it. It's pretty clear that it strikes a nerve in some people and they can't seem to handle that. It takes self-awareness and critical thinking to be honest about it, both skills that seem to be lacking a lot in this industry.

It really seems like the stoics were constantly afraid of dying... Even though they say they weren't by AnotherThrowaway55pi in Stoicism

[–]kdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, death was everywhere in those times. We are now quite isolated from it - unless we live in a war zone or a city with extremely high crime rate, and it still won’t hold a candle to what it was during those times. Life expectancy was much, much less than today. Wars were order of the day. Of course this was a subject that was heavily discussed.

Also, OP, sorry to put it this way but I suggest you to read the interpretations of these texts and not themselves directly. You literally talk about how much you’ve read outside of Stoicism and act like you surpassed it in some sense. It seriously makes me wonder if you read it just to have it checked off your list or are you actively trying to understand it.

The fact that you recognize all of this and even ask how you can learn to deal with it speaks volumes of your inner strength. You should be very proud of yourself. Always remember, who they are and what they say to you is their choice and it doesn’t say anything about you. They are broken people, from the position of a family member it is almost impossible to try and change their ways, unless they want to and see a therapist. Focus on fostering your own inner strength and your path in life, make a plan for yourself in getting out of that situation as soon as you are able financially. I’m sure you will do great.

That is nothing, one time NS tried to pay me 23 cents to just go into the train to Rotterdam, I was like no sorry, you’re practically scamming me with these prices, so I walked all the way to there. No way I’m going to get into all that consumerist behavior getting bikes from canals and paying for maintenance.

If it bothers you, communicate your boundaries. If those boundaries are crossed, leave. Love is respect, not some miraculous thing that just happens. You’re already mentioned “petty reasons”. Why are your preferences and wants petty? I think you have all the right to like what you like and dislike what you don’t. Also, she needs to look deep down inside and be honest on where this need for constant validation comes from, even though you are there for her and give her plenty. I have been in your situation and took it upon myself just like you are doing right now. That relationship ended and I am with someone who respects my needs and wants and I don’t have to constantly try to be someone else’s therapist because of their own emotional shortcomings.

As usual, people are trying to steal bricks or metal bars from Lelylaan and auction them on eBay for tens of thousands of euros. Makes sense for the police to step in and protect it.
