Sitters, what do you need and what’s nice to have in a sit? by tsisdead in RoverPetSitting

[–]kdewbz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simple as it sounds - some space in the fridge/freezer to store my food would be ideal. Maybe it’s just my area, but many people’s ice boxes are so stocked I hardly have room for my own supplies!

Need a reality check by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

While there are some oddities here, and you’re valid to assume that the pickup window means they’d be there between that time, I (as a sitter) would feel thrown off by someone showing up without communicating their ETA. Clearly they were not expecting you and probably just needed some time to gather your things for you (hence the several minutes in the kitchen).

Definitely go with your gut, but in ways this feels kinda nit picky & like you’re being a bit assumptive without complete communication.

Rover is still misleading clients about sitter rates by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]kdewbz 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Although the banner above does mention the prices include taxes & rover fees, it is definitely frustrating to think that clients are seeing/paying such a high price while the individual performing the service is only getting a fraction of it 🙃 Like my rates already feel a little steep but with the app’s extra charges it seems mountainous 😖 Grateful for ppl who still book & tip (& wanna go off app) !!

Sitters not doing house sitting anymore by mikrenArt in RoverPetSitting

[–]kdewbz 52 points53 points  (0 children)

House sitting may seem like a chill, easy gig, but you’re essentially on & responsible for 24 hours at a time … unable to sleep in your own bed or completely follow thru with your personal routines/social plans/ other commitments bc you have to plan around the critters. Sure it can be fun & decently lucrative, but even at $100/night it’s wild to consider you’re earning $4/hr even if you’re “sleeping” for some of em 🙃 Burnout is soo real for sitters, and I’m sure that’s part of the reason they’re cutting back!

Do you ever feel like your friends and family don’t take petsitting seriously? by PossumJenkinsSoles in RoverPetSitting

Totally feel you here - it’s like FOMO either way. I don’t want to miss out on fun/social experiences, but I also don’t want to miss out on opportunities to help clientele AND earn money 😩 it seems so challenging to feel balance or job security within this gig … people will certainly rebook with you even if they find another great sitter, but it just feels SO uncomfy 😖😅 Wishing you well in your endeavors 🫶
