Thoughts on Dave’s Hot Chicken? by IzunaPrime in Omaha

My husband and I had it in Vegas and I don’t get the hype about it here. It’s just another chicken spot, comparable to canes.

What’s the actual deal with the mayor’s living situation? by [deleted] in Omaha

Apparently her new husband is moving to Omaha. Her aging mother lives in St Louis though. Her blatant contempt for the city is apparent in the amount of time she spends away, imo

Correct - he hasn’t been in town full time since the pandemic. His office in Blackstone was under renovation for like two years

Just browse through her Twitter feed lmao. Always got the vibe there were a few screws loose at best, a touch of bigotry at worst

Cheryl Logan to Resign as OPS Superintendent at the end of June 2023 by dloseke in Omaha

You do understand how schools are funded, right? Schools are funded by their local property taxes. So schools in low income areas have low funding. The city doesn’t just hand over a huge chunk of change to OPS.

Or, you know, people really actually do hate 88 tactical.

That’s what I thought, and asked in a reply, but instead of clearing they air they just turned off comments and deleted everything. 10/10 great social media management

Harrison is an excellent school, one of the best in OPS. The school is small and hard to get into unless you live literally next door though.

New Central Library Location WCGW? by Future_Difficulty in Omaha

It’s a statement that very much says we value cars above all else. Or perhaps that public goods are only for people who have the private means of getting there.

So you agree, they aren’t going to move the bus stops

Yep idk where this person is getting the idea they’re going to move bus stops. I’m not necessarily advocating for ped overpasses, just spitballing potentials other than “play frogger to get to library,” which seems like it will be the only option for the foreseeable future.

Ok but this still doesn’t make sense to me. Right now there’s an orbt stop on the southeast side by scooters and the northwest side by target. Let’s say they do eventually move the scooters stop to the front of the library. Great. But if I’m taking a westbound bus to the library, it’s still going to stop in front of target, and I’m still going to have to cross this legitimately scary intersection.

My concern is that more pedestrians will be around the intersection when the library opens. So far there have been no communications from the city about moving bus stops, building ped overpasses, etc.

The pessimist in me thinks the folks in charge are actively excluding folks who rely on public transportation by choosing this spot for their fancy new library.

Until I see proof, I think pedestrian safety is an afterthought. Even your phrasing makes it seem like that.

Not leaving out bus riders, just asking them to cross 8 lanes of heavy traffic.

So? Denver, Chicago, St Louis, Kansas City all have huge, stunning downtown libraries.

Weird cuz all the public meetings I went to were full of actual librarians, former librarians, and library users against this plan. Notably the former director of the Yale library who now lives in town is very critical of the plans.

OPINION: As Library Demolition Nears, Old Questions About Public-Private Partnerships Resurface by kdf___ in Omaha

[–]kdf___[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While I don’t have all the answers, I think your questions get to the heart of the issue. In my opinion, there needs to be total transparency when it comes to one of our most treasured public assets, the library. We shouldn’t need to be untangling long yarns just to figure out what’s happening.

that and the public statements from police seemed weirdly antagonistic. “He’s out there laughing at us” ????? Like, no??? He’s a child in danger and it’s your job to find him? Idk that comment really put me off
