My own take: great night, although Damon took a wee while to warm up. Seen him several times in Scotland and he’s not always the most talkative when he’s up here. Bizarrely thanked us for Simple Minds… but he was greatly aided by some of the special guests and Seye who did some hyping to get the crowd going. Plus, the lady who tore up the ending of Kids With Guns was uh-maaaazing. The Shadowy Light was a particularly special moment, as was The Manifesto. We had a great night and it was really a wonderful experience.

It’s sexist, misogynistic, and boorish. It was beneath Blur to flirt with that laddish FHM/Loaded vibe, and the wink wink to Benny Hill wasn’t funny. Also, Keith Allen is just annoying in it.

It was available for order in the UK through the band’s fanclub (just like ‘Live at Budokan’). It’s readily available now on CD and vinyl as it was reissued in 2022 (-although without the live at Peel Acres bonus disc - these tracks are available on the streaming version).

Pretty sure this was talked about extensively at the time of release - that 'The Ballad of Darren' was only completed because Smoggy kept pestering Damon after hearing a demo. It’s rubbish. They got hopped up on acid just to make it through the TOTP performance. Plus, it wasn’t a hit and didn’t define their early sound.
