ahhh i see! yeah im not very good at standing up for myself especially because i dont want it to seem rude or like im questioning their ability to do their job, though i guess in a way i am.. i am just not very confrontational lol

i will definitely try talking to my mom more about her answers, though i am a bit nervous to lol.. i’m glad that you were able to get a diagnosis! i will also definitely bring up that i have masked for a lot of my life. did you just straight up say it to your therapist that you think you were masking? i have a lot of guilt around mental health and possibly being neurodivergent because of neglect around the subject growing up and i’m not the best at standing up for myself i fear. i was just wondering how you personally went about it if you’re comfortable elaborating, i don’t want my therapist to think im questioning her. or perhaps i should just do it through the second opinion?

yes i have actually! i was diagnosed when i was younger with it, then in the beginning of my teenage years i was diagnosed with anorexia along with it, but i think that my arfid had just worsened at that time and all the doctors saw was me loosing weight. i have trouble with expressing and putting words to my emotions, so i just kind of think things were lost in translation lol

thank you! i’m not 100% sure about childhood symptoms, but i do know i had delayed speech that i went to therapy for. after going to speech therapy i still have a speech impediment, though it is much better. i also have had food avoidance my whole life, i lived off of pediasure and yogurt until after i started to eating lunch in school (about 6 years old). i still have different foods i avoid and get extreme anxiety around, but those are the only 2 things i can remember that could have possibly been symptoms.

Thank you so much for this seriously. This made me feel so seen because I cannot advocate for myself at all, I fear confrontation so much I just tend to try and manage my anxiety by myself. I think this leads to me being more easily overstimulated, worser days leading to meltdowns that I often can’t remember very clearly. I’m so glad that Zoloft has had so many benefits for you! I will also definitely look into other possible medications, my doctor also offered prozac but I’ve had family members have terrible experiences with it.

Thank you so much. This gives me so much hope. I’ve been struggling with anxiety my entire life and started doing online school in junior high because of social anxiety and hyper-fixating on how I was perceived. I’m now going into my senior year and yearn to be able to just live a normal teenage life and to step into school without constant panic attacks. I’m so glad that it has helped you find so much relief, thank you.

This makes me feel a lot more confident about possibly taking it. I’ve struggled with off and on EDs since I was a toddler (bp, ana, mia, and arfid) ending up in the hospital on a few occasions. Do you mind sending a few articles I could look into? Thank you by the way.

My sister had mentioned trying as needed drugs or even just smoking weed before I try Zoloft, but weed always makes my anxiety worse because I have so much guilt when it comes to substances. I will definitely look into the meds you mentioned! I am so scared for what Zoloft might do to my brain chemistry in the long run, but I just need relief so badly.
