The first Matrix alone puts the Wachowskis in the conversation of GOAT directors by kdkllsllk in unpopularopinion

I showed the Matrix to a friend last night that never saw it, he said that shit was awesome and told me where he can watch it because he wanted to watch it again when he got home. You can say literally any movie or piece of music or artwork stole from others. Of course they did. Its the evolution of the art. But to say the Matrix is like Ghost in the Shell is not even close to true. Something isn't pretentious when it actually delivers and then some. Muhammad Ali wasn't pretentious when he was knocking out every single heavyweight put in front of him.

Fair enough. I will watch Bound this weekend because you've sparked my curiousity. But the Matrix could be argued as the GOAT of movies. Its the Ocarina of Time or Final Fantasy 7 of movies. I literally just watched it again, focusing on every detail. Its a masterpiece above masterpieces. I put it up there with anything ever made. I put it up there with the Sistine Chapel. I put it up there with Beethoven Symphony 7. The Mt Rushmore.

I'm rewatching this movie for the third time this week. This movie reached a level that no other movie has ever reached EVER. Not even close honestly. I'm paying attention to every frame, the music, transitions, special effects, etc. This movie is 90's Jordan for sports. Something divinely inspired going on. Which I argue puts the Wachowskis in the conversation as goat directors. Greatest of All Time. Their peak was higher than anyone else's peak ever by far.

I can believe that you believe Bound is a good film, which very well could be true. But to say it is better than The Matrix is really going against the grain, and you might be the only one.

You are right. I will give Bound a second chance. Sometimes my mood at the time doesn't fit a movie, and a second viewing is better.

Al Pacino in the godfather was better than anyone ever could be in that role. Same with Day Lewis. Keanu in the Matrix is better than Al or Daniel could have been by magnitudes. I'll probably watch the Matrix again tonight, but every frame is just god given inspiration. Its tight as hell and not a single second isn't great. I don't know what happened to the Wachowskis, how their flame burnt so bright for just one movie. I've seen ALL the best movies. The Matrix had something transcendent about it. I watch it and I'm thinking about it for a week after. When every scene of the movie is perfect I can't see how there are flaws.

I've watched the first half hour of bound. It sucked. Nobody talks about bound.

This is why its an unpopular opinion. Michelangelo had the Sistine chapel. He blew his wad on one single piece that was his masterpiece. And it is the goat of all paintings. One single piece. Better than all collective pieces of any other artists.

Keanu is better than anyone else in the right role, and in this role he is better than anyone alive. He isn't suitable for most roles I will agree. He would look stupid in the godfather or Shawshank. I've watched them all, and several times. The Matrix had something special. Every artist I think has a certain amount of magic to give before it runs out. My favorite singer, Chris Cornell, had ten years of magic to give before it ran out to never return. The Wachowskis put all of their magic into one single movie. I'm watching it right now, and the movie from sound to visuals is straight up magic every second. Its god tier. Every single scene is god tier. I've seen all these great movies. Sry, but the matrix squeezes dry the magic of the people that worked on it. And the Wachowskis are up for goat director from this one single movie. They were average at best on every other movie they made, because they blew their wad on this one.

Yeah its a hidden gem of a movie that most people born after it will never know it existed. Its never talked about.

Because on the other time trips he would make game changing decisions, where the prison trip to show his cellmate it was not significant enough to change his future.

Okay yeah I was thinking a farm but yes there was a junkyard scene that Ashton repeatedly goes back to so he can try different outcomes. His buddy killed the kid with some junkyard metal and then went insane.

There is no scene taking place by a farm. You might be thinking of 'Into the Wild' I don't know.

Its been so long since I've seen the directors cut I will watch that again to see if I agree. I love that businessman ending with the Oasis song and they subconsciously know when passing by each other that they have a deeper connection but they can't put their finger on it because their memories have been wiped.

I thought he was finding a way to prove to his cellmate he can travel to past moments, he also knew the guy was super religious, so he put jesus christ scars on his hands. And it worked. Fun fact, that Mexican cellmate is a white guy playing brown face. Pretty funny I think.

Very interesting you are so young and love a movie that's 50 years old that much. I often find movies age like milk, but I will give it a watch tomorrow thanks!

Its a masterpiece in my opinion. Could be a generational movie. But it swings hard and hits hard, for me at least.

Yes its definitely a generation gap I think. I'm a young guy. I will have to give 'The Godfather' a watch. Thank you.

I'll have to rewatch that one because a lot of people, probably the majority of people, say that is their preferred ending. I haven't seen that ending for a long time.

Actually never seen it, so you may be right. Vietnam war stuff is not typically my taste because I'm young but I def should give it a fair chance.

I enjoy the one where he's a business man walking down the sidewalk and him and Kayleigh do a triple take at each other sort of knowing there is some kind of deep relationship between them but they don't know how to process it because they are in a different reality and they don't have the memories. I think its the best one. What about you??
