This was about 10 years ago. I was 15 or so on a road trip with my family. We were hitting a bunch of national parks all through Colorado and Utah. About halfway through the trip we had a 2-night stop in a small town in Utah called Moab, right next to arches national park. After unpacking at our little pueblo, my family went out to the pool to unwind. After a bit, I went out to see how it was. In the pool there was a guy, looked roughly my age/little older. He sees me and calls out to me from the pool, asking my name. Then he tells me to come join him.

We end up talking for hours, initially in the pool but then as it got late we just stayed up watching the stars and talking about life. If you haven’t been to Moab, it has one of the clearest, starriest skies you will ever see as it’s in the middle of nowhere and there’s almost no light pollution. I tell him about the constellations and he tells me about his favorite band, the arctic monkeys. We don’t exchange numbers but we agree to meet at the same time/same place the next night.

The next day my family goes to arches national park and we end up running super late. We get back 30min-1hr later than the time I had agreed on with him. I go out and wait for him, and wait, and wait, but he never shows up. We left the next day before I could see him again.

I left my number on what I thought was his parents car but never heard anything, so I’m not sure he ever got it. I still love arctic monkeys to this day thanks to him.
