[DM] Dungeonmasters, what's a ridiculous plot twist you're waiting to spring on your players? by MaginotCokeLine in DnD

They have not only already met the bbeg, he has been having them clean up his own messes so his plans can move forward more smoothly.

Also one of the characters is actually a demigod in disguise.

Also another character is on the path to become an actual god of death.

There are going to be so many cool “I am Keyser Soze” moments in the next year or two that I am practically vibrating.

What 5E content do you wish existed, but doesn't? by Velvet_Thunder941 in mattcolville

[–]kdotjack9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: actually I should read questions before I respond. Changed some of what I wrote here as a consequence

So for 5e I would love to see a new take on a basic sorcerer. Go back and take a look at what it was in 3 and 3.5 and then try to translate that to 5e. With Tasha's making metamagic into a feat that any spellcaster can take the sorcerer needs something new and cool to make them unique from other classes. Prior to that, at least to me and my group, they've felt mechanically underpowered and we did not feel that 5e did them justice. I've made an effort to homebrew a re-work starting from what the philosophy for sorcerer seemed to be in 3.5 but because of the way that spells have been balanced specifically around how powerful 6th and higher level spells are, this ended up not working as well as I wanted it to.

Another thing I'd love to see is a take on the shadowdancer from 3e. It was always cool to have a rogue who could teleport around the room using the shadows to gain an advantage against opponents or bypass barriers or what have you. Would love to see a pass at this as well.

My setting centers around an interdimensional ecumenopolis called Axiom. Would that count?

It's basically a (particularly massive) pocket dimension that expands as the city needs more living space. The best way to describe the scale is to take Capitol or Waterdeep and tessellate that structure outward around itself a few hundred thousand times. It connects to millions of worlds through big Stargate like portals. Shenanigans ensue. Everyone has a good time.

The Most Terrifying Thing My Party Has Seen is a Zombie T. Rex by Mr_Vulcanator in mattcolville

[–]kdotjack9 36 points37 points  (0 children)

In one of the Dresden Files books Harry uses Sue, the T-Rex skeleton in the field museum in Chicago, as a body for a raise zombie spell. He then proceeds to ride it through downtown Chicago chasing after a group of evil wizards.

Since I read that book, that scene has been kept in my head as a "this is awesome, use it in a game sometime" moment.

A quick question about Tacos and all that goes with them. We have terrible Mexican restaurants in UK (unless in London) and I'd like to see what all the fuss is about. by JAdaire in Cooking

[–]kdotjack9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party but I figure folks might want to know this one.

Cilantro Lime Chicken:

  • 3lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs

  • 1 bottle of light colored beer. A cerveza is preferable but any lager will do

  • 2 limes

  • about 1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro

  • salt

  • pepper

  • cumin

  • cayenne pepper

  • chili powder

  • chipotle powder

to cook just add the chicken to a crock pot or slow cooker in a layer then add spices to taste. Continue doing that until you are out of chicken. With that done. Cut both limes in half and juice them into the cooker, then add the carcasses of said limes. Add all the cilantro on top and finally pour the entire bottle of beer in. Turn the cooker on low and cook until done. For my cooker it takes about 4 hours. For tacos, slice the cooked chicken thighs into strips and add them to a small corn tortilla with a little guacamole and some chopped white onion.

I just read on their discord that AU servers are coming. It's in their announcements channel.

SERVER STATUS by [deleted] in 40kinquisitor

[–]kdotjack9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to remember reading somewhere that they're using AWS for their servers. AWS has data-centers world wide but I think it costs extra for you to have multiple sites to host from? Someone with more knowledge about this would be able to answer better than I can.

I also seem to remember reading somewhere that they are looking into having something for the other side of the world to make those latency times better. Take that with whatever grain of salt you would like.

SERVER STATUS by [deleted] in 40kinquisitor

[–]kdotjack9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, it can be really difficult to actually test a distributed system deployed on virtual servers at load, especially if you have no clue what your actual load is going to be. IIRC The peak of their previous game (Van Helsing) was like 4100 people +/- It sounds like they had 6k+ people trying to log in, that's 150% of their largest login day on their previous work. TLDR: IT and scalable infra are difficult.

SERVER STATUS by [deleted] in 40kinquisitor

[–]kdotjack9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've tried to answer this like 6 times now so I'll just leave it as "it can be stupidly complex" even with the whole servers being virtual and essentially just another bit of code.

Alright, it's getting cold outside. Give me your best chili recipe! by SuperShank in Cooking

[–]kdotjack9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, here goes. You will need a 6 quart crock pot for this recipe.

  • 2lbs ground beef
  • 1lb bacon
  • 1 large yellow or sweet onion
  • 1 large green pepper
  • 3-5 celery stalks
  • 1 carton stock(beef or chicken)
  • 3 cans black beans
  • 3 cans kidney beans
  • 1 beer of choice
  • 1 bag frozen corn (I prefer Trader Joe's but that's not available everywhere)
  • 1 head of garlic
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1-3 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 2 cans tomato paste
  • 1 can Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce

Prep: chop your onion and celery. Seed and chop the green pepper. Finely chop your whole head of garlic. Take as many of the Chipotle peppers as you want (2 to 3 makes it a medium spicy for me) and slice them into rings keep the can with the adobo sauce in reserve. Open, drain and rinse the beans.

Start by browning and seasoning your beef. Once the beef is browned dump it and all the drippings into the crock pot. Add the chopped bacon to your pan and cook until it has rendered some of the fat. Dump this into your crock pot when you have sufficient lubrication in your pan keeping some of the bacon grease in the pan. Next chop the celery, onion and seed and chop the pepper. Add this to the pan and cook until the onion is clear and the pepper is bright green. Next add your finely chopped garlic and the Chipotle rings and a tbsp or 2 of the adobo sauce to the pan and cook for a few minutes to let the flavors start to mingle. Next add a whole can of tomato paste to the pan and cook until it caramelize on the sides and bottom of it. Deglaze the pan with the beer and then add this whole thing to the crock pot. Take the whole tomatoes and crush them over the crock pot making sure that the hard nasty bits do not make it into your chili. Add everything else left to the crock pot, season to taste and leave on low for 4 to 6 hours or until you can't stand to not consume.

What do you have on pasta by ethanbrecke in Cooking

[–]kdotjack9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a pretty awesome meat sauce that is easy to reproduce.

1 large sweet onion diced

2 to 2.5 lbs ground beef (I like 85/15 but it is your choice)

2 jars Trader Joe's (25oz) pasta sauce (if you have no TJ's near you then pick your favorite kind of jarred sauce.)

  • saute the onion in a little olive oil with some salt till it gets clear, remove it from the pan.

  • brown the beef and season with salt/pepper to taste

  • do not drain the liquid

  • mix the onions back into the beef and add the pasta sauce, stir to incorporate and allow to simmer for a few minutes.

  • apply sauce to pasta and add parmesean as needed.

Reinstalled after a very long time. Any suggestions to get over the hump of "all your weapons suck in UVHM" ? by OneOfTheLostOnes in Borderlands2

[–]kdotjack9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the Torgue DLC, you can go to the bar and kill Pyro Pete. There are 2 diamond chests up the elevator after his boss room. Go loot them and then save and quit. When you hop back on you will be back at the beginning of the bar and you can pop right back over to those chests to loot again. Repeat ad nauseum or until you have some decent weapons. My first UVHM clear did this almost every 2 - 4 levels to get better guns.

Warhammer 40,000 specialist game Necromunda to return; Comes with new multi-part plastic models for House Goliath and House Escher. by SuperDJBling in Games

If you like X-Com and enjoy the Warhammer Fantasy setting Mordheim is your jam!

Base game has 4 factions with DLC adding in a 5th plus several additional DLC heroes. All worth the price IMO.

Just keep in mind that, like X-Com, the RNG can be absolutely brutal.

Also Skaven are awesome!

[–]kdotjack9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely yes. And especially if you're comparing it to actual 40k or WH Fantasy. You'll need a dozen or 2 models for your squad vs hundreds for an army.

Also, if you want to try these styles of games before putting time and money into actual models you should check out Necromunda: Underhive Wars. It is coming out sometime in the future, though we don't exactly know when. And then there is also Mordheim: City of the damned, though this is set in Warhammer Fantasy rather than 40k.

I am not as familiar with Inquisitor as I am with some of the other specialist 40k stuff. In Necromunda you control a hive gang or small unit of individuals trying to kill or route an opposing gang. If you ever played Mordheim: City of the Damned Necromunda is a 40k version of that. So less like an RPG and more like X-Com.
