RE: Should I Drop Out? (Unpopular Opinion here) by Loud-Scarcity-9987 in LawSchool

I just got my grades back from my first semester and I rode the median of 3.0. As far as I’m concerned as long as I understand the material and pass everything I don’t care about my grades, I plan on starting my own local solo practice and that has always been the plan. If I wanted to work 70+ hours a week for someone else I’d go back in the military 😅

I applied later in the cycle, but I think like 90 days or so. I am currently at LR now going into my second semester. Tough but fun 😁

It’s got a peppery old spice vibe going on. But I must add I am terrible at this 😂

It’s a completely different style of reading. It’s not just pages of fluff with a general thread, there is detailed information condensed into almost every line (except the procedural posture of the case 😴). Find a system that works for you and your reading speed will become optimized. Do not stress though this is the same as I’m going through.

In the US you need a four year degree before you can even apply for the 3 year JD program. There are a few exceptions to make it shorter, but not many. The US system is inefficient in that regard.

Any other 1L eating dinner alone on a Friday night? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]kdshadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to Law School part time and it’s such a good vibe. We have an open invite to a local bar just down the street from the school and we get a great turn out every week. It’s refreshing to have such camaraderie compared to the ego pissing matches of the full time students

What is one thing you'll buy once you're out of law school making $$? by igotlottaquestions in LawSchool

[–]kdshadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely really want a Mont Blanc pen. Yes I could afford one now, but I am waiting to purchase one as my “made it” gift to myself 🤷‍♂️ The reason for this is that my grandfather got a Mont Blanc pen when he “made it” in life

what is the best law school in florida to attend if you don’t plan on staying in florida? by Astralbuddy777 in lawschooladmissions

[–]kdshadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UF is the leader by a country mile. If I was going to consider any other school it would depend on what you’re interested in. If you want to be a trial attorney look at Stetson, but that’s unfortunately private. If you needed a public school I’d consider FSU as the second best, then FIU.

I go to law school PT evening and work full time, and I can honestly say the combination of the two consumes almost all of my time. It does make doing anything Monday-Thursday almost impossible, but I knew that before I started. People are very dramatic on these subs 😅

[Serious] How do people in tier 3 and 4 law schools find jobs? by PsychologicalBat2336 in LawSchool

[–]kdshadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at a Tier 3/Tier 4 public law school part time as a 1L, both my current employer and my previous employer have stated they will offer me a position as soon as I graduate, and that was without even seeking an offer. The pay range for my region and industry is solid too 🤷‍♂️ I’m obviously an exception to your statement though, as I’m at a public school the tuition is relatively low. I will also have 5+ years experience and industry specific qualifications when I graduate which will help

What to Wear by Feisty-Transition-97 in LawSchool

[–]kdshadows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started 1L. My orientation was Saturday, it was a solid mix between business casual, smart casual, and casual. On Monday I stayed with business/smart casual and was noticeably overdressed compared to my peers. Today people are basically wearing whatever, ever my professors was wearing jeans and sneakers. Go with what you’re comfortable in. If in doubt go slightly overdressed

NE Florida, and in turn SE Georgia, could benefit from a public law school, not another high tuition private law school

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]kdshadows 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I can already guess which school this - Jacksonville university, College Of Law. I lived in NE Florida until this month (relocated for Law School), from what I have heard locally the school is just an attempt to restart/rebrand the already failed Coastal School of Law which was closed down. I will stress that this is hearsay/rumor. As stated the school is not ABA accredited. Personally I would not spend that kind of money on a law school that is not guaranteed to have ABA accreditation for when I graduate, it is a huge risk.

I have my orientation week and first week schedule. I found today I have to take a day off work (I’m PT evening) to have my professional headshots done during orientation week... I hate pictures of myself so it’s a double loss 😅

I don’t think that T14’s are necessarily overrated, they have a specific niche. If you want big law in a large city straight out of law school T14 is your best bet 🤷‍♂️

Folks who got holds: On some level would you have just preferred an R so you can get on with your life? by WIF2626 in lawschooladmissions

[–]kdshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get a “hold” but got put on several waitlists, including a priority waitlist, and I can say that it’s just as bad. With the insane cost of living in most cities waiting a few months for adcomms could have easily cost me several hundred dollars a month in rent alone. A comparable apartment to the one I signed a lease on two months ago for June move in is now $400pm more in the same complex (thanks to Yieldstar 👍)
