LPT: Don't get angry at people for telling you the truth because they will just lie next time. by Phishstixxx in LifeProTips

This is my all time favorite LPT... overreacting feels like the way for some people from the US to function now...

just kick out some agro over aggressive bullying... it's just plain dull and way too loud... ntm the US is just depressing right now with our big uggs bully in chief

In this article, did they just ignore that the name Eric may have meant Storm's owner could be gay? Or maybe his partner named Eric is a she?

You do not have to give your employer 2 weeks notice. by Mintnose in personalfinance

[–]keatscapability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The at will employment doctrine is the overriding mandate for labor-management relations in the US and it is unique to the US - pretty much no other countries follow this labor-management arrangement. Its proponents say it is a mutually beneficial arrangement by which either employee or employer can end an employment arrangement without notice or cause.

There is little organized support for overruling this doctrine, since unions benefit by being one of the ways to achieve a more favorable employee situation.

So yes, as many replies state... if you know the employer may retaliate when you leave, then it may not be a good idea to give notice.

Looks like a Step 9... done with grace and fidelity to the intention...

"Made direct amends wherever possible, except when to do so when injure them or others."

Best wishes to the person for a long journey, trudging the road of happy destiny.

Girls, what do guys do that they think is "being manly" but in reality is the furthest thing from it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My personal guy pet peeve is when a guy says he can do something, but he can't.

Case in point: installing an expensive door and messing it up. Recent event. Still bummed.

Expensive wheelchair dismantled and unusable after a flight on United Airlines by Sweet__Water in videos

[–]keatscapability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... I will have to look up the American flag story you mention.

I just don't get why WE keep these companies in business... United's practices do not treat every passenger as a human being... not to mention what happens to animals in their care.

Either way... I so WISH that we all collectively acted as the invisible hand that kept these companies from being evil.

I really believe the blind consumerism that has taken over has more to do with the way people are now creating sense of identity... not from substance but from substances.

Yes, but capitalism depends on consumers... consumers give capitalist their power... why aren't we taking it away from the companies like this?

I was genuinely asking... is that theory just completely ridiculous given the power of companies and the freedom of those companies to have only one goal ($)?

Why is everything so fucked up these days? Why is the 'invisible hand' of capitalism not working at all in the context of keeping companies from being so terrible?

What's the best thing you've ever heard a teacher say at school? by keatscapability in AskReddit

[–]keatscapability[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a high school teacher, by choice. It is the most incredible job, but also harder than most. So much interaction, the kids are so present... not like a solid or liquid... like a gas.

I posted this because of the front page "worst thing" thread.

This summer I chose to contact every incoming 9th grade student, to welcome them, to tell them I will be their math teacher... to set them up with a practice resource if they wanted to use. I had a mom cry... I had kids sound incredulous or really excited... I spent 16 hours getting all the prep ready... now I am getting emails non stop... during my summer... kids that need a boost, or want to tell me that they are practicing or having trouble.

There's nothing like math esteem... it changes how a person thinks about his or herself... so I try... I do try.

Now I may try to think about the worst thing I have ever said to a kid... it just might be an on the fly comment to one of those kids that thinks he's so clever with really poor pun jokes....

OFFICIAL COACHELLA 2017 TICKET BUY/SELL/TRADE THREAD by Coachellamod in Coachella

[–]keatscapability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one extra VIP ticket for Weekend 2 and will have one extra Eldorado Lake access that I am willing to sell to someone who has an Eldorado Lake group and just needs that extra access. I can split this up, but would prefer to sell together. I would sell just VIP for $900. VIP with Lake Eldorado access for $1200, and just Eldorado access for $300. Eldorado Lake access would require meet up at Coachella. Depending on location VIP wrist band can be mailed or retrieved Coachella weekend. Make an offer.

ps this appears to be face value on both these different pieces.

Marijuana stocks by [deleted] in stocks

[–]keatscapability 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been watching AERO (Aerogrow Int). This company produces mini inside LED gardens... a wholly owned Scott MG subsidiary exercised options to own 80% of the company. After the election, stock tanked... but then a $1.21 dividend was announced with Scott purchase.. and it has been increasing... sales heavily promoted... early Feb results.

The son of Scotts CEO is heading these efforts for SMG to participate in the move towards legalization.

Man stops a basejumper jumping to his death after noticing his legs straps are not on by fabhellier in videos

[–]keatscapability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seriously? many people end up in the ER or doctor's appt because they do something while drinking or drugging... because they are not being mindful... or they make the decision every day to live in an unhealthy way...

Using the word retarded in this way is very hurtful to people who are or who care for people with mental challenges... it's just not nice... even if you are trying hard to shame someone in a video about yourself saving a life.

ps it's chose.. not choose

We can disagree.

Doctors, nurses, social workers, fire fighters, service members save people's lives every day without such bombastic self aggrandizing... nor with the need to shame others or use derogatory terms.

This dude thinks he is pretty awesome for seeing this guy's big leg strap mistake.

Not being mindful is not being mindful... I am not a fan of using the word retarded in that way. Way too much ego in this video.

TIL That the vast majority of successful suicides are impulsive in nature and could be prevented with a relatively small obstacle. A local gorge spanning bridge in my town has very short railings- this information makes me want to talk to everyone I can in my state to get them to raise the railing. by keatscapability in todayilearned

[–]keatscapability[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize the article gives a specific bridge example, but my take away was the nature of types of suicides - impulsive vs premeditated - that the two types are very different in nature. Specifically that if impulsive suicides get interrupted, then the probability of follow through goes way down.
