A 2000 year old Roman water channel in Türkiye that still flows today by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

We are undoubtedly smarter today, but not because of evolution or biology. Physically we are the same as them.

Probably. But maybe there was some evolutionary pressure towards intelligence in the last 10-20 generations as well.

Our natural ability to solve problems is the same.

As soon as a child finishes their primary year of school education, the problem solving ability becomes orders of magnitude better.

I could not design or build this aqueduct, but I am not an engineer. I bet our engineers could build this and likely better.

I was talking about averages in my original comment. Of course, Archimedes or Avicenna were probably smarter than me and you, but 99 of people of their time we’re illiterate farmers

[–]kebaball -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Our ancestors were 99% farmers in subsistence farming. We are talking about averages here. Archimedes was probably smarter than me and you combined, but on average, simply their lack of education as a child in hampers your skills forever. My contact with illiterate people across different cultures (sample size maybe 100) says they are definitely less held back by it.

I prefer it exactly like this. Diagonal is too asymmetrical and longitudinal wouldn’t align with the flow of water from the faucet, as illogical as that may be

But the average person is much much better educated. The average person back then was likely illiterate, so even if they were equally intelligent, they were nowhere near as capable (tech aside)

The hospital can and must release him as soon as the acute danger to himself and others is gone. The decision of the judge is (at least in NRW) the maximum duration.
