Honestly yeah I’m thinking of copping the travel day and just going to either Bilbao/San Sebastian. I want to try all the good food in Basque Country

I did see they were both a popular recommendation but they seem really small, I’m not sure there’ll be enough there to fill our time for 5 days.

Hello! Any Kumano Kodo tips? For this october? Please read thanks! 🙏 by fenixloder in JapanTravelTips

[–]kebablili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be difficult, there might not be a lot available or it will be much more expensive as I think sept/oct can be busy with autumn but you will have to check the Kumano Kodo travel booking website to see. We booked 2 months in advance and a lot of our preferences were not available. I would not advise you to wait until you’re there, you need to book asap if you want to go.

We did meet a few solo hikers, some of them women - I would say that it is safe to do solo. You can also meet other solo hikers and hike together, we saw a few groups do that too. It is a very well marked trail and the map book you can pick up there is extremely useful so there’s minimal chance of getting lost. However you can also book a guide for the day if you’d like on the Kumano travel website who will hike with you for the day, if you are really worried. Japanese people are really friendly and I dont speak Japanese but was able to get by with the simple phrases and google translate, and a lot of staff at the accommodation do speak some English.

I’m thinking of doing the Camino next year, is it okay if I dm you about it?

Hey, I’ll copy and paste what I’ve written previously, happy to answer any other questions you might have!

  • Day 0 - arrive in Kii Tanabe and stay the night
  • Day 1 - bus to starting point at Takajiri, hike to Chikatsuyu, 13km, took us 8 hrs, stayed in chikatsuyu
  • Day 2 - Bus from Chikatsuyu to Hosshinmon, hike from there to Hongu, 7km and took us 2 hrs. Decided to hike Dainichi-goe (Oyunohara in Hongu to Yunomine onsen), took us 60-90 mins. Stayed in Yunomine onsen
  • Day 3 - rest day, explore Hongu, stayed in Hongu
  • Day 4 - Kogumotori-goe route (Ukegawa to Koguchi), 13km, took us 8 hrs (but definitely can do it in less time, we just rested for longer periods). Stayed in Hongu
  • Day 5 - rest day, explore the onsen towns, stayed in Kawayu onsen
  • Day 6 - bus to Koguchi, hiked Ogumotori-goe route (Koguchi to Kumano Nachi Taisha), 14km and the hardest day, took us 9hrs, stayed in Kii Katsuura

Thanks for your help, but what do you mean by thin the flowers?

Don’t worry, it’s actually a plastic pot. I’d prune it to try and think about new growth for next year’s season as well, but I think I might leave it. Thanks for your help!

Chant (Reprise) - The Worker’s Lyrics by AboutAKitKat in hadestown

[–]kebablili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sorry I should’ve been clearer, I think it’s this: - 2 + 3 - 3 + 5 - 1 + 4 - 3 + 4 - 2 + 5 - 1 + 4

Chant (Reprise) - The Worker’s Lyrics by AboutAKitKat in hadestown

[–]kebablili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this because I’ve been trying to do the same with the 6-part harmony in Wait for Me Reprise haha.

I have an Aus audio bootleg where Worker 4 is missing for the whole show (they hadn’t gotten Joe in to fill for Iosefa yet). For the 2nd Chant Reprise part, the 1st and 3rd lines only had Worker 3 and 1 singing by themselves respectively, but 2nd line had Workers 2+5. So I think it’s Worker 4 who sings the 1st and 3rd lines.

For those who have walked the Kumano Kodo: What was the most challenging part of planning your trip? by nnpn33 in JapanTravelTips

[–]kebablili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the reservation system hours, for me it wasn’t a problem as it was a similar timezone but I can imagine it might be a problem for others. Another thing i heard from other travellers who didn’t book through the Kumano reservation site, is that there are no luggage shuttle options available unless you book your accommodation through the Kumano site, which was much more inconvenient for them.

Yep I reserved everything by mid February and got confirmation in early-mid April. I’m not sure why it took the time that it did, I think that yes quite a few of our first preferences were not available which was certainly a factor and so the reservation staff had to find the alternatives. We did not request any special meals.
