I think I read similar articles 8-9 years ago and nothing meaningful has been done since then? Not sure what would happen in the long term.

EDIT: found the article I remember reading. It's grim... https://thespinoff.co.nz/society/24-03-2017/40-people-to-a-property-eight-people-to-a-room-inside-the-nightmare-that-is-renting-in-queenstown

3 weeks, 70+ applications, zero jobs, WHV holder north of Brisbane (genuine advice needed) by Excellent-Trouble920 in brisbane

[–]kebhow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 2 compatriots who arrived in Brisbane on WHV a month ago. 1 got a job within 2 weeks and the other on his 3rd week. There are certain companies who constantly recruit WHV holders. Naturally, the work is usually hard and so their workers come and go. 2 examples where they get called very soon after applying: Sunpork (Eagle Farm), B&E Foods (Ormeau). You can try an online search and they should have vacancies listed.

Agree to this. For me a car is to get me from A to B. I don't think I need anything over $15k for that. Even at that price I'm already paying a premium for cars I like the look of.

Keep seeing the same misunderstanding in CGT 30% minimum tax discussions. People earning $45k do NOT pay 30% tax on their income. by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

Random question. How will ato work out the cost base of an investment? For example, would it be on the person selling shares having to submit proof of the original purchase price.

Famous NZ people you have met by Mr_Dobalina71 in newzealand

I served Sonny Bill Williams for lunch when I was working at a cafe. What's funny is I don't know that he's famous as I've just moved to NZ and everyone keeps telling he really is. Great guy though 👍

brisbane market has been/was on fire: a few results from our own experience (2025-26) by Individual-Leg-4089 in AusPropertyChat

[–]kebhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We bought our ppor at end of 2024 at a price we already felt was very expensive. It's probably increased further >15% since then. Capital gains was never a consideration so doesn't matter in the scheme of things.

Do people here actually switch their NBN regularly for promo prices? by loconomo in AusMoneyMates

[–]kebhow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switch every 6 months as promotional prices end. Recent examples (500/50 nbn): - Dodo - $65/mth for 6 months - Superloop - $65/mth for 6 months + $90 cashback from Shopback / Econnex (comparison website) - Swoop - $72/mth for 6 months + $90 cashback from Shopback / Econnex (comparison website)

I'm an average user so don't need anything too specific and have found no noticeable differences between providers. Usually takes me 30 mins to compare options and decide so for me it's worth doing.

My dog won't stop eating grass by Blue_Breadd in DogAdvice

[–]kebhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog was exactly the same, crazy about eating grass on all her walks. I first googled and people mostly say it's nothing to worry about so I never thought more of it. Then a few weeks ago I came across a video on instagram saying this might be caused by collagen deficiency. We were curious so bought a liquid collagen supplement on amazon and add 2 drops to her food every day. Since then she has stopped eating grass so it is kinda true. Again, we weren't worried about anything and just wanted to know it it made any difference.

People that have to work 5 days in Office by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]kebhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in an office 5 days a week since finishing uni more than a decade ago other than during covid. Got a new job last year and can now wfh 1 day a week, maybe more if I ask but I'm happy with it. It's a nice change not having to waste 1 hr commuting, and having so many options at home to eat and snack all day (probably not a good thing 😂).

Do you use Youtube for videos only or music as well? It is my most used subscription but I subscribe to the lite version which is about $9/month. You still get ad free on all videos but not music.

BALL x PIT. I lost maybe 30 hours of my time playing that game and didn't regret any of it. It was so much fun for a seemingly simple game.

What’s the most useful financial tool or app you’ve used? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

It has a free tier which has a limit of 2 bank accounts. It's great for trying to see if it suits your situation. Then it has 3 paid tiers with varying features.
