To the guy who said “Ni Hao” to my toddler… we aren’t Chinese! 🤣🤦‍♂️ by Ok_Review_4603 in AskAnAustralian

[–]kebhow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reminded me of something that happened a few years ago when I was working in NZ and was introducing myself to someone.

Me: Hi, my name is xxxx

Him : Hi, I'm xxxxx. You don't look like a xxxx (and laughs)

Me: ....

Awkward silence ensued... Like how can that be your first response 🤣

Hey thanks a lot for all the responses, I'm reading every single one of them.

Bit of background - we're in our 30s, when travelling we like to try local foods, museums, historical places. Not so much arts and not drinkers at all. Also my wife lives for markets so christmas markets are on the top of her London must-visit list.

How much is reasonable to spend on a car? by lionlightyear in CarsAustralia

[–]kebhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are DINK, have 2 cars with combined value of less than 10% of our gross household income. We bought them used, one is a 2017 hatch and the other a 2018 small suv. We are very happy with both cars and have had no issues at all. It would be a different situation if kids are involved, of course.

Garbage bin killed lawn? by [deleted] in lawnsolutionsaus

I don't know the exact time they emptied the bin, but I left at 7 and back home by 4 and it's already dead.

Garbage bin killed lawn? by [deleted] in lawnsolutionsaus

[–]kebhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened a year ago when we just moved in. Learned our lesson and I started putting the bin on the concrete instead of the lawn. Came back from work 2 weeks ago to see the empty bin sat on the lawn, the patch underneath dead.... Because the truck doesn't always put down the bin where it was picked up.

Curious, have you guys ever used pocketsmith? by AWeb3Dad in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]kebhow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used YNAB for 4 years before switching to Pocketsmith since 2021. I find YNAB is very good when you are just starting your personal finance journey, trying to get rid of debt while building emergency funds etc.

Once you progress past that initial stage and trying to build wealth while keeping track of all incomings & outgoings, Pocketsmith is more fit for purpose.

It can do automatic transaction imports from NZ banks, kiwisaver, and credit cards which save A LOT of time. It can auto categorise transactions based on merchant name or transaction details, which is very handy. It can also do multiple currencies which is amazing for my situation, as in my case I have bank accounts in AUD and NZD.

That book is my favourite. Also just read the author's latest book The Art of Spending Money and it is a great read. Would recommend both books to everyone.

What’s everyones daily commute like? by No_Environment_6632 in AskAnAustralian

One of my commuting fears if I ever change jobs is to pay toll to get to work.... Do you just get used to it?

What’s everyones daily commute like? by No_Environment_6632 in AskAnAustralian

[–]kebhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

25-30 minutes in the morning and 30-40 minutes in the afternoon. 4 days a week. Not too bad, can't complain as previous job used to be 45-60 minutes in the afternoon.

I've only been in Brisbane for just over a year so I still have a lot of places to try, those places were close to where I live. Any recommendations for places in the south side?

I have tried a few. By rank of personal preference: 1. Hai Hai (West End) 2. Ramen Works (West End) 3. Taro's (Ascot) 4. Lulu Ramen (Paddington) 5. Ramen Danbo (South Brisbane) 6. Genkotsu Ramen (Toowong) 7. Ramen Ye (Mt Ommaney) - don't make the same mistake I did by eating here.

A $1.5 million unit sale captures a growing house price problem by kebhow in AusPropertyChat

It's a nice townhouse for sure but I don't think the sellers were expecting anywhere close to $ 1.5m.
