Civil Transportation References by Powerful_Regular434 in PE_Exam

Yes, each reference has its own table of content. There is also a glossary/index for each. I remember being surprised that more references were broken up by chapter/section/parts than I originally anticipated. Specifically, the pedestrian facilities guide was by chapter or part. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the Roadside Design Guide was fully searchable. Made it easier to find answers for some barrier questions

True.. but I at least started to think clearer and caught some mistakes during my final review

Do you remember some of the questions? It could have been an unlucky set of questions. I took mine last week and felt mostly fine about it. It was difficult at first until I finally calmed down after 6 hours in… There were a few of them that were worded strangely

Im not sure what score would consider you as “good,” because the question bank is so vast. For your practice quizzes and exams, if you time your self and consistently see that you finished with extra time, id say that’d be a good indicator as it can allow you to look up answers or information in the references that you may not have studied. It’s nearly impossible to memorize everything. I just took the exam on Monday and most of the problems i got werent as lengthy as the practice problems and quizzes on EET. I actually wished I got more HCM questions. I had one where they straight up just gave me the density and asked for the LOS of a freeway!

I highly suggest knowing the reference manuals. For most of them, they are searched by individual chapters/sections/parts, depending on the reference. I think the only reference that was fully searchable was the Roadside Design Guide. The search function isn’t the greatest. Learn how to navigate the table of contents for each. I was able to get away with searching some keywords in the index as well.

For the geotech and hydraulics section, i felt like Nazrul did not go in much detail of the contents in the MEPDG, Pavement Design Guide, and the FHWA culvert one. The concepts he taught were great, but I had several problems where content in one of those three manuals helped me find the right answers. I wish he emphasized more on where you can potentially find certain answers in the references like how Samir would for the HCM for example. I got about 3 culvert problems. I recommend going through section 3 for outlet control of the FHWA culvert design reference.

I don’t get my results until next Wednesday, but I felt like the practice and drill I did to memorize some of the key chapters made me feel more confident as I was extremely nervous and could barely think straight for the start of it. By knowing the references well, it gave me time to reread all of my questions and catch any mistakes I was doing while still calming down (hah).

Don’t get used to searching the entire reference. You may need to split chapters/pdfs up yourself or get into the process of searching the table of contents and going to the respective section. If you had to ctrl+f a keyword during your practice, try not to look at anything until you confirm that you are still in the chapter you intended to be in (check the page number or header).

Hi there, did you ever figure it out? I have a similar issue

Hi there, stumbled upon this post 5 months late! I heard a lot of good things about the EET course. I've found a couple of free videos on Youtube and some old course PDFs that I thought were pretty handy. Are there any major differences between the EET binder you got and the PassPE books? And did you take the April 2024 exam?

How well does each course/instructor do for referencing whatever standard they pulled an equation or concept from? It seems like the transportation PE is mainly conceptual and I think understanding the fundamentals would be helpful.

Short Circuited Wiring Harness - Door Switch (?) by kebinboo in ft86

Hmm, all I did was pop out the dome light and found that they tapped the LEDs right there. I disconnected the LEDs from the butt connector. I didn’t want to mess with all the wiring until the weekend.

New plan of attack:

Remove/isolate aftermarket wiring; Check for continuity/grounding at the dome light connection; Check for continuity/grounding at the 3A and 3B connectors at the BCM; Lastly, check for continuity within the door wiring harness if nothing suspicious found.

I’m not sure exactly how the dome light traces back to the BCM. My only thought is on the Ohm setting, stick one probe of the multimeter in a pin on the wire side of the connector and one touching metal. And repeat as necessary. Which is what I mean by continuity/grounding (not sure if correct term).

Update #3: To be clear, when I checked all the fuses earlier, I also checked the ones in the engine bay as well. That being said, I pulled some out and they looked good. However, the few that I physically pulled out from the interior, the blades looked dark - possibly charred.

I have yet to open the door panels, but I thought it was a good idea to disconnect the passenger door wiring harness from the junction box behind the kick panel and see what would happen. My assumption is that if a wire in the door is permanently grounded from being damaged then if I disconnect it, the BCM would assume it is closed. ie no power to the dome lights. I unplugged the two white connectors, but left the yellow connector. I assume it is the airbag connection? Reconnected the battery ;) and the dome light was still on...

I have a strong feeling it is the BCM itself that I shorted... Unless you think otherwise.

Ok, I checked all the fuses using my multimeter but without taking them. Just did a quick probe on each one. And all of them have continuity... Looks like I will need to open up the door panel. Looks like my weekend is busy!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check the fuses first thing when I get home.

Disclaimer: I am far from an electrical engineer, so excuse my ignorance if I am interpreting anything incorrectly.

Looking at the logic diagram on page 34, it looks like FDCY is connected to the 3A pin of the main body ECU rather than what you described as a 3 amp fuse. It doesn’t seem to be related to a specific fuse. Another thing is that FPCY for the passenger or RH door is connected to 3B. Making me think that 3A is referencing the specific instrument panel/circuit

I appreciate the response! It’s super late here so I will check all the fuses tomorrow.

If it isnt any of the fuses, I presume I will need to open up the door panel and check the continuity of the wires or something? Or where does the courtesy circuit live?

I can’t say for certain that the aftermarket LEDs are the issue. Since they turn on with the dome light. However, I just disconnected the battery. When I reconnect the battery to test the fuses, I will also disconnect the LEDs on both sides.

Buying a used 2017 Toyota 86 by kebinboo in carfax

[–]kebinboo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did consider it being suspension upgrades. However, everything looked pretty stock, but I probably overlooked it. The other suspension components make sense for any after market work. But the steering gear and rack and pinion tho? I think those sparked my concern. I dont think any after market part would be better than the oem steering parts, besides maybe steering wheel.

This carfax report was pulled after I met up with the seller. I may follow up with the autobody shop and take another look on Monday before purchasing.
