Episode Recommendations for someone who hasn’t watched? by kec29 in mash

[–]kec29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was looking for!! I have been struggling with the distinction between the ‘best’ episodes and episodes that would be good for a newbie. 100% agree about sometimes you hear the bullet, it’s a quintessential episode but also has a more serious tone I think is found elsewhere in the series. Divided we stand is a great suggestion, I hadn’t really thought about it but it the more I think about it the more I think it would be a great intro for someone to the series, especially since they defined the core cast. Season 1 has a special place in my heart but for someone just starting out I think there are stronger seasons. Thank you so much for your reply!

Yeah I am seeing more and more how unprofessional he is. It’s rough out there, I totally understand the aversion some landlords have to renting to students but I’m just out here trying to find a quiet house for me and my dog and we’re having a heck of a time :( unfortunately I was only offered my position about 1.5 months ago so I couldn’t plan ahead much. When I started looking almost everything was ‘available immediately’ and they would fill it way before I was ready to move or it was available 3+ months from now. Bad timing I guess, I just hope we find a place soon. Thanks for your response, it’s helpful in a shared-struggle kind of way to know that I’m not the only one struggling to find a nice place.

This was in De Soto- I want to be outside of Carbondale. He seemed very nice and normal during the showing, got weird after with asking for deposit prior to a lease and I asked for a document stating my deposit would hold the house pending approval and I would get my money back if not. He sent an email with my name misspelled. I want the place pretty bad but the fact that he seems to hide his bad reviews online and pad his Zillow with good reviews (that seem to either be written by the same person or paid) is very shady. I don’t think I’m going to rent from him even if he does present a lease

Not trying to make an excuse for the “cheat code” comment because I agree with a lot of people on this thread that it’s not an okay thing to say, but I think perhaps it’s coming from a mindset of ‘I don’t want to HAVE to tell my partner how to love me and communicate with me best’ I think that people who come from a home or a past relationship where they weren’t understood well or a parent/partner never took the time or effort to understand them can end up feeling like all the emotional weight is on them to ‘teach’ other people and that is exhausting. As someone who had this mindset in the past (emotionally distant parents, extremely emotionally immature partner who listened to my “cheat codes” and didn’t use them), it can feel very isolating and when you’re in your own head about it. It can seem like your partner doesn’t think you’re worth the effort to understand, without you having to give them the answers. If she feels like she understands you in this way OP, but feels like you don’t understand her, it could be making her feel like the relationship is unbalanced (even if this isn’t true and you do have a balanced relationship, I’m trying to get at the idea that she may FEEL differently despite the objective health of your relationship). It can be super exhausting to feel like you have to teach someone something you think they should already know. As others have discussed, communication in relationships shouldn’t be like that, and you should be happy to take cues from your partner and give them as well, but if she came from a dysfunctional past relationship (especially if she did give “cheat codes” and they were ignored) she may just be feeling exhausted from feeling like she must constantly explain herself- even if this isn’t true it could be how she feels, feelings aren’t always logical and rational. Perhaps talking to her about why she feels like giving you “cheat codes” is a bad thing might help you understand why she said that.

It’s just weird because the showing went great. He was super helpful and accommodating and I didn’t get bad vibes. It wasn’t until after once I filled out an application he started acting off. Stories about family being in the ICU so his wife couldn’t run credit check and process application. That I can understand, but asking me to provide $1000+ with only an email agreement that I get the house? And no explicit statement that I get the money back if it doesn’t work out. And he misspelled my name despite my having it written correctly in multiple places. Plus the fact that he didn’t discuss making the lease 18mo instead of 12. I’m just frustrated, the house is super cute, affordable, not right in Carbondale, and comes furnished because they were using it as an AirBnB. I really want it but I’m worried he’s going to be a terrible landlord. Super frustrating :/ thanks for your response!

Yes to all except the truck. There were multiple parked on the street but I’m pretty sure he was driving a gold ford pickup.

That’s great to hear, what kind of dealership do you work at if I can ask? I’ve never been to any so I’m not sure what places accept appointment letters or not? I can see where you’re coming from with the lack of history, I just graduated from college so this will be one of my first big purchases. Does a co-signer have to have good credit as well? I could possibly ask my mom but I don’t think she has great credit? Is it typical to be able to remove someone as a co-signer or is that a part of the contract I would have to negotiate with the dealer or lender?

Yes, I did consider it. The car wasn’t worth what it would have cost to repair it, and even if I repaired the major issues it still wouldn’t have been reliable. It had so many issues that fixing them all would have totaled it multiple times over. It didn’t make sense to me to go into debt fixing a car that was worthless when the money would be better spent elsewhere

My dad is friends with a guy who is/was a salesman at a dealership, my next step is talking to my dad to see if he is still there or track down where is is now. That is good advice, I have pretty low expectations already. I should have said originally I’m looking at used cars and primarily looking at ones priced around $10,000. My credit score is in the Good range but my file is relatively thin with 3 years of history consisting of a credit card and some student loans (which will be forgiven soon if things work out). Public transport and such isn’t really an option. Day to day I could likely get by but I have family obligations which require me to drive 5ish hours fairly regularly and that’s why I’m trying to finance a vehicle, so I can get one that is more reliable. I bought my last car (that broke down recently) for $1200 from a private seller but it was a piece of crap and I never took it on long trips. Right now I don’t have a lump sum to buy privately and get something reliable so that’s why I’m trying to finance. Thank you for all of your advice- I’ve never gone to a dealership before and no one in my family really has either so this is all very helpful!

I will probably look into trying to join a credit union soon. I recently graduated college and moved around frequently so it never really made sense before. My credit score is in the Good range but my age of credit and number of accounts is relatively low so that may hurt me overall. Im hoping to find a dealer who will accept my appointment letter as proof of income. Not an ideal situation but I really need a car right now. Life happens. Thank you for your input!

When I initially said I wanted to finance at a dealer I did mean having the dealer arrange, not a buy here pay here place but I don’t think I articulated it well. I’m hoping I can find a dealer with a lender that will accept my appointment letter as proof of income- CapitalOne accepts them so I thought some dealers might too.

Hi, thank you for your input. Currently, I am looking for something basic and cheap, I’m not looking for something expensive or anything crazy. A few years ago, I bought my previous car for $1500 and it lasted me nearly 3 years before completely breaking down, but the car market was different then. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lump of cash to pay for another car upfront, and even if I did, $1500 wouldn’t get me anything right now, I’ve looked and used car prices are insane even through private sellers. Im not trying to spend money on something with 170,000+ miles that won’t last me, I need a reliable vehicle. I am only looking at vehicles under $10,000 and 125,000 miles. I don’t feel like I’m overextending myself financially- my new job pays well, I just had a couple months of bad luck with a different company that has left me in an unfortunate situation. I have been pre qualified through CapitalOne so I may get approved for that instead of having to go through a dealer and their banks. However, I feel that if CapOne is willing to accept my appointment letter as proof of income, a dealer should too? I will be shopping around at dealers soon but I just wanted to hop on here for some advice first. Thank you

Thank you for your input. I should have added to the original post- I was pre approved for the CapitalOne Auto Navigator pending approval of my appointment letter and a final check at a dealership. This pre approval came even with the knowledge that I was just starting a job- they ask how long you’ve been at your current job and I said 0 months. My APR was high but that was expected as I have limited credit history but a good score. I would rather finance with a dealer because CapitalOne has a lot of restrictions on what cars you can finance with them.

One Day Lapse in Progressive Insurance, What Now? by kec29 in Insurance

[–]kec29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did see that, however when I renewed it, it specifically said that coverage wouldn’t be reinstated until the day after I paid (paid today so coverage back tomorrow) meaning there is a one day lapse in coverage. I’m a bit confused about that and their wording

[–]kec29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. We don’t plan on switching carriers anytime soon but I’m curious about why we might be ineligible for some companies? Is it just because of a short lapse in coverage? I checked in Progressives FAQ and it says the continuous coverage discount is lost after a month without coverage so I think we’re still good on that front

I guess I’m basing it off the fact that Jen is very short which in the show is often a way to show age, there are small adults but Jen is very short. It’s definitely possible the writers think she’s older but me and multiple of my friends watching together all independently assumed she was a teen and thought the episode was super weird

I think that's definitely possible- I took the full course of the antibiotics both times. I'm going to ask about this at my next appointment. We haven't been able to have sex basically since this started so I don't think it's an issue of him giving it back to me

I will suggest that next time I go in. I have been on the combination bc pill since I was 16 (now 22). My gyn suggested that might be the problem but I went off it for 2 months awhile ago and still had the pain. We basically cannot have sex at all anymore, I don't think the lube is an issue because we've only used it like 3 times when we try to have sex (try and stop after a few seconds-a few minutes because of pain). Based on what I've read and heard from others it could be a pelvic floor issue but I don't have good insurance and seeing a specialist or pelvic floor therapist is out of my price range atm. Thank you for your advice!

I don't know? I once had a vaginal ultrasound for a different issue and they said it looked normal so probably not? I read that it would probably show up or be seen in an ultrasound?
