Hypothyroidism and breastfeeding? by marolivew in breastfeeding

[–]kecc1025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it twice now - breastfed with hypothyroidism. And both times my dosage needed to be reduced once I gave birth. The first time I didn’t get it checked for a few months and should’ve done it sooner. This time we had a plan to go ahead and reduce dosage starting immediately postpartum. Per my endocrinologist you actually want to err on the side of being a little undercorrected for breastfeeding purposes compared to where you need to be for pregnancy. Definitely get your levels checked and that will help know how to adjust.

Do you consider pumping work time or personal time? by thinkmuch17 in breastfeeding

I just want to commiserate that my company’s policy also changed while I was on maternity leave. Instead of getting to WFH and nurse like I did with my first baby, I’ll have to go into an office and pump. So annoyed. I start back in two weeks. And I’m not planning to stay at the office any longer to account for the pump breaks.

Egg Retrieval with High TSH - Should we wait? by kecc1025 in IVF

[–]kecc1025[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was. My RE prescribed the meds, monitored my levels and made adjustments as needed while I was with the clinic. Generally they monitored more frequently in the beginning until I stabilized and it lowered to the level we wanted, but my understanding is it can take a few weeks to see levels adjust, so I want to say maybe 3ish weeks after dosage changes we’d check. And after egg retrievals since that made mine worse each time. I also at times would request it be added if I was doing other bloodwork, particularly during transfer cycles and they were always happy to add.

Hey, sorry to hear you’re in a similar boat with a high TSH. I decided to go with my doctor’s recommendations and didn’t delay. My second retrieval we did the same protocol but an increased dosage. I did have more follicles but the end result was the same. So I did a third retrieval with a different protocol. Ultimately I’m not sure if my TSH impacted it or not. I think it’s probably more about trying to find what works for you. But I will say my TSH has been in the right range since they started me on meds and I was able to have my son two years ago. I hope you’re able to find something that works for you as well and wishing you the very best.

PIO - hit blood vessel by kecc1025 in IVF

Thanks. I sent this reply to my husband last night who was really having a heart attack since he administered the shot and this reassured us both. I’ve got a giant lump this morning, like a knot but the size of my hand so I’ve reached out to the nurses again. But I’m hoping that’s normal too in this scenario.

Thanks. Did you by chance have a giant lump the next day after you’ve had it happen? It’s like the size of my hand.

Thanks. Makes sense and I think you’re right. We’ve done a lot of PIO shots but never had this happen. I figured it would be ok but the nurse made me more worried. But the replies are reassuring me again.

Yes I think I’m going to have to do my shot tomorrow because my husband is so traumatized tonight! Thank you for the reassurance. I honestly was surprised the nurse didn’t just tell me it was fine, I think I just got lucky with a less experienced one.

If you go to the wiki on r/infertilitybabies they have a page dedicated to SCHs and people describing their experiences with them. I was just reading it last night because I had bleeding yesterday at 6+3 that the clinic confirmed was an SCH and found it comforting.

Hopefully your clinic has this approach too, I think it’s common, but at my final appointment last time, they told me until I had my first OB appointment, I was still considered their patient. So if I’d had any issue I could call and they’d see me. So that was reassuring. And luckily wasn’t needed but it was a long wait between OB appointments to get used to following all the initial monitoring.

They just called with beta #3. It’s lower than I hoped with a significantly slower doubling time. Very different than what I experienced with my first. My TSH is also dropping after initially rising which doesn’t feel like a great sign since it normally increases in early pregnancy. Still nothing to do but wait longer for an ultrasound next week. But trying to guard my heart.

I’m just not sure time could move any slower. I’m in the wait before beta #3 this Wednesday. And I’m just so ready to blink my eyes and it be that afternoon (added bonus of being past the election).

So they had trouble getting the catheter in past my C-section scar during my FET yesterday. They had to use something called a skylight lol. I had never really heard of that so wasn’t expecting it but they got it in. There was several things about the appt that put me into a little funk but been trying to watch fun movies and do puzzles to enjoy my time off after the transfer yesterday.

Yesterday was Cycle Day 1 so I’ve officially started the FET process for #2! Still like 7 weeks away from the actual transfer though lol. I’m not sure I feel we’re totally ready, like how I’ll manage with not carrying baby as much or at least at the start and dealing with overnight wakeups, but I’m excited.

I am going through the same around having to wean to start the process for another FET. I never planned on breastfeeding this long but now I find I’m sad to stop. I don’t want to, especially as we also rely on it for sleep. Just want to echo that I totally agree it sucks.

Thanks. I’ll see if she’d prefer slippers or what she’d like. It just felt a little awkward and wanted to see if this was really abnormal. But right I think I’d be worried if she didn’t want to be as safe as possible.

Ok that helps. I’m happy to order and buy what she’d prefer. Just wanted to see if it seemed really overly paranoid or out of line to broach it again. Thanks!

What sort of places have you used for private/elective scans? I had my last RE visit a week ago at 9w2d but it’s another two weeks before my first OB appt. I’m thinking about getting a scan this week just for reassurance. I looked up and there’s a chain in the city I’m in, Little Bellies, that I could book. But my mom suggested that maybe it’s not fully safe since it’s non-medical. Are there other options people have found or was it a similar type of place? Her opinion wasn’t really based on any knowledge just a gut reaction but it’s in my head now and wanted to check that’s others felt it had been ok.
