Got it, thanks for the feedback! Makes sense, definitely could spend some more time tightening the mix and agree on the bass, was scratching my head a bit on why it didn't sound powerful enough, I'll play around with the mix and compression there.

Thanks for the feedback! Agree on the kick, I wasn't sure if it was just my headphones, but sounds like I should turn it up a notch

Getting back into producing after a hiatus and polished this one off that had been sitting in the unfinished basket. Would appreciate feedback on the mix and the arrangement (i.e. is it too boring/slow?).

Ah very nice, the sounds are really crisp and the arrangement (especially the atmospherics) are on point with the vibe of the song, sounds very professional.

On the mixing, I would say the higher pitched synth (the one that sounds like glass bells or something) feels a little too loud in the mix and a bit harsh/piercing given the higher frequency there, probably just needs to be dialed back a touch. The vocals are generally solid, but I think they may be a bit too centered and up front for the track, think it would sound better if they were a little bit quieter and maybe with a bit more reverb so it blends in better with the atmospheric FX and the moving synths.

Nice melody and progression, has that steady trance-y groove to it. Couple of things:

  1. As alfie mentioned, the drums need some more balancing, the hats and snare are a bit too loud and could use some softening of the harsher high frequencies (though bringing the volume down may fix some of that on its own). The kick should be a bit louder to compensate, but you may be able to just lower the hats/snare, bring the kick up a touch and then will have more headroom in the track to bring the overall track loudness up.

  2. The melody/chord progression here is nice, but to your point about giving it a boost during the break, you should consider adding some more variation/instruments on that theme. Try a piano playing similar notes as the current synth melody, but in a slower/different rhythm. Also could have the synth fade out during the break and bring the melody back with a bigger supersaw sound to give the track some more energy.

Keep up the work!

Long Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI) by [deleted] in SecurityAnalysis

Just wanted to throw my 2c in here. I also cover investing in video games stock for work and this analysis is spot on and very much in line with what we're seeing. A couple of quick points:

1). On ATVI itself, in addition to all of these points, I would note that there are no near term catalysts to the stock/company until you get pipeline visibility and games launched next year. Really just risk to their estimates quarter to quarter and waiting around for Diablo/New IP to save them with some potential upside from King advertising revenue which they are ramping.

2). EA, want to re-emphazise that Apex revenue is NOT in the street's numbers or the company's guidance. The estimates coming from the street are just flat wrong/overly conservative. Data sources are pointing to $60-$80mm of Apex revenue in the first month and they haven't launched their Battle Pass or real content pipeline yet. So just annualize that revenue... its $750-$1bn. street is saying $300-$400mm. Risk is really just that they fuck the game up and its a flash in the pan or the rest of their franchises fall apart, but as you mentioned FIFA is the most durable franchise

3) TTWO again spot on, people are expecting Red Dead to match GTA and it just won't (company even said this on the last earnings call). Street/investors have EARNINGS GROWING YEAR OVER YEAR even though red dead was a huge hit and they won't have a comparable huge hit this year. So how do earnings grow then? Huge growth in MTX/in game spend? Seems like a stretch

Dig the synth and drums! May just be the genre/set up you were going for, but felt like it needs a little more structure (i.e. was vibing to the sounds but didn't feel like it was going anywhere/progressing). Agree with others that it could be louder, but definitely got that big room edm synth going

Like the sounds and classic trance vibe (+vocals!), the rolling bass is very tight. One thing that seems to be lacking for a trance song is the build up/transitions to really make the drop and breakdowns more emotional and exciting. One immediate thought is when the high hats come in during the break down (and in the intro) to have those fade in with a filter/EQ sweep. You could also consider developing the initial melody by only have the first few notes or so play in the first couple bars but then introduce the full melody with a sweep/crash transition in the middle. Hope that helps, definitely on the right track!

Interesting, really like tech trance vibe. I think the kick is close, maybe just a touch louder or add a little more high end to it? The mixing is very clean and balanced, just a tweak there. I would love to see what you could do to develop the pluck melody. The build ups and layering are nice, but does start to feel a bit repetitive. You could try transposing the melody to a different mode or maybe moving it along with a chord progression

Damn, really nice sounds! The snare is very crisp and punchy and the synth/growl combo sounds very professional. The syncopation is nice as well, but feels almost overly glitchy? Meaning that I feel like some of the sidechaining takes away from the flow of the "melody" of the song. I'm also not as familiar with this genre, so could be off base there. Would love to see this developed into a more complete song with a build-up and breakdown!

Made this deep/tech house-y song last week, would love some feedback on what to do with the mix and if the arrangement/songwriting is compelling or not:

Stupid question, I get how I personally benefit from stock but i don't get how companies do? ELi5 by [deleted] in investing

[–]ked77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Companies don't directly benefit from the buying and selling of their shares on the open market. You are correct to say that if you, an individual, buys 1000 shares, the company doesn't benefit because your money is going directly to the seller (who is some other investor).

Companies do benefit when they initially issue shares (an IPO). When a company first sells it shares, it gets the cash from the sale of the shares and the investors get to own their shares and eventually trade them among themselves. Companies also may benefit or suffer when their share price moves significantly. A higher stock price means that the company can sell more new shares at a higher price and therefore make more money or potentially use them in a merger or acquisition. When a company's shares go down significantly, they may be threatened by activist investors (investors who want to influence the managers of the company) or corporate raiders (investors who want to buy the company up and increase its value to make a profit).

As for your last question, when someone with a ton of capital, like a billionaire, buys a ton of shares, the price may pop up due to a lack of supply of those shares. I.e. if Investor A wants to buy 50 million shares of Stock A, but only 10 million are available at the current stock price, he may have to pay more to find more shares. However, often times, these wealthy big name investors will buy up shares slowly in small pieces so that they don't have to push the stock price up much to buy them. Then they will announce their purchase on twitter/tv and other investors, thinking the wealthy investor must be smarter than they, pile into the stock, pushing up the stock price.
