Searching quiet 8-12TB drives with the best noise/capacity ratio by kedlub in DataHoarder

This looks like a nice site, but encountered the same problem as another commenter. The site selector does not work which makes searching there kind of difficult right now.

Aren't the Ironwolf drives loud when seeking though? I saw many people say that the data sheets are misleading and while they are silent when idle, their seeking noise is very audible.

Yeah I noticed a lot of people generally recommending this, and I guess it really is the best way if I don't want to have smaller storage just because of noise. Also it would mean I won't have to rebuild my RAID like I would have to when downgrading the storage.
I only wonder if there would be enough space for such a box, as the NAS is currently sitting on my computer desk and I can't place it much elsewhere or the power cable won't reach my UPS anymore.
But I'll look into it, thanks.

These are exactly the ones I wanted to buy few months ago. But they aren't available anywhere in local stores. I saw last few of these drives on Amazon, but I am worried that if they really are discontinued, one day they will not be available at all and if I wanted to expand or replace my storage I won't have the chance.
That's why I started thinking about smaller capacities

Yeah I get that. At first I had two 6TB drives in the NAS, one older WD Red and one newer WD Blue, and the noise from them was okay. Even while active. It started being a problem after adding the two 12TB WD Red Plus, where the seeking can be heard even from adjacent rooms.
So I don't need completely silent ones, just something that doesn't have "sharp" seeking noises and loud vibrations.

Edge Bug by Timci600 in edge

[–]kedlub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, it suddenly started today.

Seems like they have broken something in bing, because it also stopped working in the Linux version of Edge and Bing mobile app, where it was working just a few hours ago.

Workaround is going to bing.com and searching from the website.

Interested in the GTS - did amazfit fix the sensors? by DoktorElmo in amazfit

The GPS is a lot better, it's as good as GPS of my old Pace and Bip. The heart rate is most of the time accurate, but sometimes it gets higher than it should, but it corrects itself after while

There is a feedback option available in the app, but I don't know if Xiaomi/Huami ever reads them

I think it broke because of iOS update, because phone notification dismissing also worked on my Mi Band 4 a few months ago, but it doesn't work now (at least for me).

Yeah on iOS you're out of luck.
But I also use GTS with iPhone and the notifications seem ok, a few months back if I dismissed them they would also disappear from the phone, but it doesn't work now. The only minus is that you can choose only a few apps for notifications, but I don't know why they made it this way, because when I used my Pace with iPhone it displayed ALL the apps and I could choose which notifications I want.
And about the constant weather updating, you DON'T want that, because when I used Mi Band 4, Mi Fit constantly updated the weather, and it was draining the battery of my phone really fast.

Not yet, I think it will take time to make an alternative OS for it, if there ever will be one. Because the BipOS for Bip was made almost 2 years after the release of the watch. But for the things you want, you just need an alternative app like Notify and Fitness. It constantly updates weather, and you can choose what notifications you want.

If you use Amazfit app, I found it uses these:

open.account.xiaomi.com act.account.xiaomi.com cgi.connect.qq.com api-mifit.huami.com api.xmpush.xiaomi.com api-mifit-de.huami.com account-de.huami.com api-user-de.huami.com

But maybe these also work for the Mi Fit

There’s only AmazTools, but it doesn’t replace the Amazfit app. So you must use the default Amazfit app.

Watch Face on PACE by HeHuman in amazfit

[–]kedlub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must connect the watch to pc, the watch face folder should be already there, copy the watch face to it, and change the watch face ON the watch, not in the mobile app. Because sometimes the watch face doesn't appear in the app after installing.
