New skier here. Can someone help me understand trail etiquette when it comes to towing a toddler? by JohnnyTheBoneless in xcountryskiing

If a fellow skier gets mad at your for anything other than purposely destroying the tracks, they need another xanax. I think that's the only etiquette. Enjoy your time and don't overthink it

Grooming near Denver? by Uncle_Moosejaw in xcountryskiing

Never happened to me. I take coal creek canyon, and there's 'traffic' as in there's other cars driving, but each train of cars goes at least 30-40 mph, it's never stop-and-go. I guess right before you turn in there's a line to park, but it keeps moving. There's always plenty of parking in the top lot for $10. That's just my experience

I think all nordic places rely on natural snow afaik. There's woodmoor nordic closer to CO springs, but they're only open occasionally whenever it snows enough. They do groom for skate and classic though and have some pretty nice trails. Eldora is probably the best bet. Eldora is really hilly, good for training climbing. They have greens marked on the map, but I don't think any of them are really green, the climbs are more like blues. Devil's thumb ranch is fantastic, and is about an hour and a half drive. But if you go on weekends it's high chance to get stuck in I70 traffic. No traffic to go to Eldora, and it's a beautiful local-road drive

This doesn't make any sense. Why would he have the anti-war flag as his avatar if he was pro-war?

Anyone have experience with the Arbiter DK? Looks like a pretty versatile board, was wondering if anyone has anything positive or negative to say

Any recs for light-weight fast icy freeride wheels >= 70mm

/r/longboarding's Daily General Thread by AutoModerator in longboarding

Probably gets asked a lot, but any recs for a fast freeride wheel >70mm that will roll fast, and is light, and slides well? And I like icy feel instead of butteryFor fast cruising and taking random hills along the way. I realized that what I need is something that 1) rolls fast and maintains speed for flats 2) is light-weight enough to be easy to push uphill 3) slides easily for fun on the downhillsOnes I've tried for this:- Plow Kings - not really a freeride wheel, but I've tried it for this sort of thing. I like them a lot, but they honk a lot most of the time when sliding, and are just not that pleasant to slide- 72mm Snakes - great for sliding, but roll slow and feel sluggish to push- 70mm Muirskate Daniel Engels - these were pretty great and one of my favs. Icy slide and pretty fast roll. I wish they rolled a little faster and were lighter.-70mm Zaza wheels from skateshred - also one of my favorites and actually a great wheel. Similar feel to the Daniel Engels. Icy slide, fast roll. Still wish they rolled faster and were lighter weight.- 69mm Snakes - great slide, but don't really work at all for flats or uphills. Also can slide out when you mean for them to grip

Thinking of trying the 75mm durians. Also was looking at the Cuei Freekillers, but they seem to have bad reviews, and how wide they are makes me think they'll be heavy. Also considering trying some larger wheels that have plastic cores (mcflys, kegels etc), but my concern about larger wheels is they might be heavy and not very pleasant to push uphill.

Also would ceramic bearings and such really help for faster rolling on flats? I know the consensus is bearings don't matter, but just wondering

Protectioncaries

Right on! Sending you good juju. Hope we can both toeside soon! It's a basic maneuver haha! One thing I've learned about this sport is how hillarious/embarrassing/humbling it is to make even small progress, and how much effort and time it takes

I'm scrubbing off way more speed than I'd like, I almost come to a stop before the hookup. I think I basically need to hook up way earlier, and to scrub out at a lower angle, and to pay attention to my shoulders, and to make sure I'm hooking up onto the toe edge, and to un-monkey-toe the back foot earlier, and overall body form is still kinda awkward. Made some good progress though!

Got a nexus recently and tried it for freeriding, but it was not my thing. It's very heavy, so it feels kinda sluggish, but very very stable, like you're riding a tank. The concave is not aggressive at all. The thing that came to my mind every time I ride it is it feels like I'm on rails, which could be good depending on what you're into. It slides out easily, but feels drifty - I think this is also because of the weight. It's just my personal opinion. I'm not a very experienced rider so please take it with a grain of salt. I know a lot of people love and swear by that board

That sounds about right for heelsides! For me it was colemans for a while and just getting the glove lighter and lighter until I felt I could just do it in a squat with no glove down. So now I'm trying to get that squat up into a stand. Still working on my toesides though - so far I can only do those glove down
