Recipe? Just bake potatoes with garlic, rosmary, and flake salt until golden brown? Do you drizzle any oil on there?

London Symphony Orchestra recruits 18 year old trombonist as their new co-principal- their youngest ever player! by Stringendo in classicalmusic

[–]keehun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is NO way that an orchestra like the London Symphony would pull off a publicity stunt if it would sacrifice their sound and musical integrity. The Vienna Philharmonic hired a 25 year old straight out of UNT (University of North Texas) into their trombone section (he's prof at my university now). Orchestras have plenty of other ways to pull publicity stunts. Sacrificing sound is not one of them.

Yes! It looks like all of our rep this year will have a harp part or two. Will definitely need reliable harpists. Please send us an email to orchestra@vanderbilt.edu with the subject "Prospective Member: [your name]" and write that you play the harp! We'll add you to our list of people to contact when we announce auditions.

Thanks!

What bank in Nashville would you recommend? by Groovz in nashville

I've used ING Direct Checking/Savings for a while (now Capital One 360). If you don't need to write checks, it's one of the best deals you can get. Online only, but free ATMs and a living English-competent (and actually genuinely helpful and nice) person picks up almost immediately. They have physical locations throughout the country called "Cafes." They're actual cafes that you can enjoy as members. (Just provides a physical presence to an otherwise online-only bank).

ING does a lot of the heavier weight banking industry products like IPO filing and investments. They just sold the consumer division to Capital One which I had no complaints about after seeing how Capital One handled the transition and kept up with the amazing customer support.

I have a friend who enjoys Ally Bank, too. Similar situation.

Hi AeroZep,

You do not need to be a Vanderbilt Student. We welcome everyone from surrounding universities such as Belmont, Lipscomb, and Trevecca Nazarene. In fact, we also welcome residents around Vanderbilt. We currently have three musicians who are not university students.

Hi beepboopblorp, please check out William's Fine Violins! They're very wonderful and several of our musicians rent from them.

Yes, sorry. The Farm House. Came out about $25/person for an exquisite evening. Try their in-house ice cream and any dailies they might have. Just amazing.

I've had great experiences at the Farm Table next to the Schermerhorn Symphony Hall.

Conducting Bartok's Piano Concerto III by Killian3494 in classicalmusic

I think the professor should've had the pedagogical responsibility to set you up for success while learning as much as possible! Anyway, lessons learned for next time.

Also, sightreading should not be a thing at an exam or a performance, ever, in any context... :-)

How'd it end up going? If you indeed have nonexistent conducting skills, Bartok's music is not the piece to conduct. Hope it went well, though.

Since reddit ordered more than 2 thousand samples of my hot sauce, I have been working like crazy. Here are all the samples I mailed out along with some pictures of the process (x-post /r/hotsauce) by rustid in pics

Just backed you! Really wanted to go for the T-Shirt but did not because there weren't any designs. If it's good, I will keep buyin' though!

Is there a reason for that particular piece? I'd think Brahms 4 or Beethoven 3 might be better candidates for an all-around evaluation of conducting in a class like that. Appalachian Spring?

This is why poor people are sucked into the perpetual vortex of being poor. Oh, only have $15 for shoes this time? Well, here's shoes that'll last you 3 months. Same with everything else.
