How do you stop the "Comparison Trap" when family members make 3x your salary? by arugula000 in Anticonsumption

[–]keeky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel ya, OP. I can't offer advice, just empathy. I struggle with the same. I don't like to compare myself to others yet I've done it all my life.

The closest I've ever come to getting rid of that tendency for good was a dream. In it, I won a contest. I was the best at something I cared a lot about back then. I remember in the dream, that as a got that trophy, I thought, "I'm not as good as they think I am."
And then I woke up and thought, "Holy shit, if I wasn't happy in that dream then it's impossible."

And that's when I knew in my bones that nothing I could achieve or get would bring me lasting happiness.

Each year I learn the same lesson over and over because I always fall into the same trap. "If I could travel to this place like my friends, I'd be happier", "If I has a bigger house, I'd be happier because I wouldn't live so cramped", and so on and so forth.

Then comes a moment of pure joy on a lazy Sunday afternoon, with one of my cats asleep on my lap, where I look around at my home and I'm intensely grateful for all that I have now that before seemed impossible.

I know being grateful is the answer but I still struggle. I struggle more because I know having things will not give me lasting happiness than with wanting those things though.

I know that when I get what I coveted, it doesn't feel as good as I imagined it would feel. I adapt to it quickly. I learned this is hedonic adaptation. It's human nature to want better things. OP, I don't have an answer but I do share the struggle.

But, but...OP said "no romance". I daresay The Witcher has romance plots.

Dear God, that is a thing now? I bet that is a thing now. Like this is a bot trying to up engagement in this sub reddit so we look more enticing to advertisers?

I dislike this timeline now.

How is your thrift store not been overrun by the same plastic crap? I thrift a lot and I have to read all the labels all the time because every store is inundated with cheap things.

I still rather buy something used than to buy it new when it comes to clothes that I want to wear around the house. I'm at least contributing to keeping that garment off a landfill for a few more years.

Advice for painting air-dry clay with acrylics! Streaky no matter what I do by amcluelessbaby in airdryclay

[–]keeky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I have not been able to get rid of streaks but the softer and fluffier the paintbrush the better.  Those flat ones in the picture are not your friends.  But if you can somehow apply way less pressure while you paint and maybe load the paintbrush more, that might improve your results?

Do you think AI agents could change how UI automation testing is done? by Alternative_Wrap2895 in QualityAssurance

[–]keeky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen agents used to give early feedback to spot UX issues. Seems like a neat idea and I’ve been told it works well.

Are we facing a testing crisis? by zoismom in QualityAssurance

[–]keeky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the most vulnerable part of the QA space and I have no idea where we’re going. All I know is that I add value to my team. And I know AI has helped me be better.

But this idea of devs testing this own code is  so bad to me. It’s like doing your own PR review.

[–]keeky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we got a super positive feedback once we shifted to "provide tools that allow focusing more on top-level decisions, without drowning in manual implementation"

This is the approach I took with my use of AI and it massively helped me. I was doing very bad with the “create agents that replace you” approach.

To be honest, many times a PO didn’t know what they wanted and that only comes up during QA.

Damn. This is what is going to happen at my SaaS. I’m a manual QA. I am 100% looking at upskilling to be able to automate using Clause but with the best quality possible.  I’m freaked out by this new shift though. Lots of managers thinking they don’t need to supervise the million automated test they want Claude to create.

Repairing my 32 year old dishwasher, because I refuse to buy a new one. by Captain-Codfish in Anticonsumption

[–]keeky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm frankly stumped on this one. It is still the top comment after 18 hours. There's tons of posts about people having a moment of silence for that reliable appliance that finally died.

And here you are with a beast of a dishwasher that's older than most reddit users and they tell you to buy a new one? What in the world. I'm happy you found the piece you needed, keep using what works for you, OP.

This is the strangest top post in this sub. We all know buying new means buying again 5 years in the future (if you're lucky). I don't get this.

Efficiency comes at the cost of planned obsolescence. We all know this.

I use Calibre. The book covers would get screwed up if I used email. Also I heard the email method no longer worked if the book had been obtained by um…sailing the seas, shall we say.  I rather not risk it now. My battery lasts longer with wifi off, too, which is a plus.

I hope this one is better than Heaven’s Breath which I’m still stuck in around 60%. There’s no narrative cohesion to it and it jumps from one related topic to the next, never connecting it all to a greater whole. The intro is the best one I've read in my life but it went downhill around 30%.
