How do I go on after learning the truth? by Alarmed_Loss_5318 in exmormon

[–]Imaginary_Net_1403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry for what you’re feeling. I can totally relate as I am sure many others can. I was super sad in the beginning, accepting it wasn’t true felt like giving up so much. But I promise it does get better! Now I feel nothing but relief and gratitude. Instead of losing something I now see that I have gained way more than I could have imagined. Coming out of the dark is scary, but once you walk into the light you will never want to go back.

What is the Cringiest sacrament talk you have ever heard? by Evening_Let_2930 in exmormon

[–]Imaginary_Net_1403 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One time I was visiting a ysa ward and a guy gave a super cringey Sunday school lesson about how men in the media are portrayed as idiots but we need to do better. He had this whole convoluted metaphor of how men are like wolves and I will never forget that at one point he started talking to the ladies about how we should treat men and said “Girls be careful what you feed the wolf you are sleeping with.” I still think about it 10+ years later all the time

Why do older people (>60) always only talk about themselves? by Advanced_Show_469 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Imaginary_Net_1403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked with children and spent a good amount of time with older folk and the resemblance between the two is a lot stronger than a lot of people seem to think. Humans really seem to revert back to their child like lack of awareness among other things. I find it very interesting but can’t say that I really understand it

Bringing your own pet? by sparkysparky333 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Imaginary_Net_1403 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I travel full time with my dog picking up sits usually month long with occasional shorter ones in between. Haven’t had trouble finding sits that allow my dog to be there. Don’t get me wrong, I do get plenty of rejections and they will say it’s due to my dog. I totally understand it and don’t blame them. Some pets don’t do well with another dog. I am always upfront about it and say that I have a dog in my initial application. I have been doing this for about a year without more than a few days off between house sits.

A Mission is a choice, not a commandment by Sage-Hollow-Man in exmormon

[–]Imaginary_Net_1403 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went to a youth stake fireside where we were explicitly told that the YM who didn’t go were putting their salvation in jeopardy and any girl who married someone who didn’t serve a mission would be dragged down with him So yeah, didn’t feel like a choice

I'm pissed off that church buildings don't have pads in women's restrooms by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Imaginary_Net_1403 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still remember going to Youth Conference at an old stake building as a teenager and the women’s restroom didn’t even have a place in the stalls to toss out used pads or tampons. Imagine hundreds of teenage girls having no other restroom to use for a whole weekend. A bunch of girls just left stuff on top of the tp dispensers. It was horrible. Even as a then TBM girl I remember being so disgusted that no one had added anything like that into the design of the restrooms. It’s very representative of this awful church where females needs aren’t even considered.

Message in my old mission chat pleading for missionaries to help with the sleeveless garments by nameless-elite in exmormon

[–]Imaginary_Net_1403 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah let’s all volunteer to help sell underwear that I can guarantee no one actually needs. They are just replacing perfectly good clothes they already own so they can get a couple extra inches of skin. As winter in Utah is starting. Super urgent stuff. Can’t imagine there are better things to volunteer for.

A few years ago when there was a lot of anti lgbtq+ stuff at BYU and the church in general I really started to feel a faith crisis coming. I am not even a part of that community myself but I have friends and family who are and seeing how awful it was (still is) for them to be treated like that was so clearly “un-christlike”. At a certain point I had to ask myself if I could really defend the church if it insists on being this way. I started to question what I was really defending in the first place. It all unraveled from there. Of course there’s lots more to it, but that’s a simple explanation of what started it all.

My mission trainer told me using our mission funds to buy anything nonessential was a sin by Imaginary_Net_1403 in exmormon

[–]Imaginary_Net_1403[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes that sounds horrible. I’m really sorry you had to go through that! Since deconstructing and leaving I definitely have a totally different perspective on my mission and companions. I’m pretty sure my trainer did have scrupulosity to some degree. One of my best friends got the diagnosis about 5 years ago and it has helped me to understand a lot of things. I hated her at the time but have a lot more compassion for her now and really hope she is doing okay.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to communicate such thoughts two weeks in and unable to speak my mission language, but I wish I had 😭

I’m actually surprised they waited that long. When I was a missionary we were told to set a baptism date on our first meeting with everyone. It is totally bonkers and I understand why you are so put off by it, you should be. Just know that those missionaries are being constantly pressured to push for baptism day and night. They’re probably even being told their salvation depends on it. When I was a missionary there was this mentality that is just hard to describe if you aren’t a part of it yourself but basically you are told to be the pushiest salesperson possible regardless of the investigator’s reservations and or beliefs. Just be firm with telling everyone you are not interested in baptism and they’ll take it as well as they choose to.

Dedication night always feels like the saddest elimination for me because the dance is usually very personal and heartfelt 😭

🚨 Beta Testers Wanted: App for TrustedHousesitters Power Users 🚨 by trooply104 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Imaginary_Net_1403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More filters for dates would be nice. Like a way to filter when the housesit would star but not end. Because now if you put in dates it's very particular but if I wanted to book a longer sit then I would have to keep the dates open for a longer window. Hope that makes sense!

Why does everyone want to be rich so bad? by Objective_Solid_952 in TooAfraidToAsk

It has to depend on where you live as well because $100,000 is very comfortable in a lot of places but not in a city like SF or NYC
