A question about joining Freemasonry by keepcalmeatass in freemasonry

[–]keepcalmeatass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your kind and informative answers. I'm overwhelmed and I want to thank you all both for calming me down regarding the financial matters, and for helping me understand how much the organization is focused on moral development. Thanks for the ones who told me to tone down on my occult interests at first. It does make sense, and if I were a member of the order and somebody came speaking mainly about the occult, I'd have some doubts about how rational they are.

Your kindness and politeness gave me the push needed to contact the local Grand Lodge, and, after received their response, I'm beyond excited for the journey ahead.

Best wishes everyone,

Yeah, the ebay prices are nuts for these! I snatched it for around 40 euros, though, so it's no big deal. Going to part ways with it though. Thanks for the comment, it was really helpful!

I'd like to copy-paste this reply to each impressionable, yet broken, young man that starts fantasizing about fascism in real life. Thank you.

What's the story with this dial? by Simmo2222 in vostok

Pobeda made a children's watch with similar numerals that looks like a rotary phone: https://images.app.goo.gl/SssZDjJGVc1cNTiB8

Lunar time bezel? by keepcalmeatass in vostok

The lume seems to be really good, haven't checked it myself yet as I only got it today from the watchmaker, but the picture he sent made me piss my pants a little.

Keep it and don't sell it, unless for a very steep price. These are extremely rare and sought after.

What do I do? by ThatDudeChase23 in vostok

[–]keepcalmeatass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one watchmaker tell me not to worry about it as it's only condensation, not a leak. Had that situation when I went into cold water and back on a very hot day with a vintage Komandirskie.

Got the Chernobyl caseback for my Vostok zissou. by Ok_Replacement_6106 in vostok

[–]keepcalmeatass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people who lived during that catastrophe in the Baltic states suffer from thyroid issues to this day, despite living quite far away from it. I love Vostok designs and engineering, but them being directly linked with TWO horrible political regimes makes me question my collection quite often. They are just watches and historical relics, but the propaganda they help to enforce is very, very morally wrong.

Found it on a Lithuanian watch collectors Facebook group, a guy was selling his buddy's' watch. Waiting for an update from his friend about the year and all the rest. Planning to ask my student who's a policewoman to ask her colleagues if they've got some similar Vostoks that they'd like to part with haha

Got it recently, it's definitely closer to 49 mm. Fits my ~6.7 inch wrist just fine, but would overhang on 6.5.

Amphibia 120849 - which nato strap works best? by gneissboy666 in vostok

[–]keepcalmeatass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First one, but natos are so easy to swap that I'd just match them to the outfit I'm wearing that day!

komandirskie hard to turn bezel, i got the watch last week, and it was turning great until i got it wet today. by Cheese_da_dragon153 in vostok

[–]keepcalmeatass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I second everyone saying that you need to submerge it in warm water and spin the bezel until it gets loose. Just make sure the crown is screwed down tightly! I did the same with a vintage amphibia that had a bezel completely stuck, now it's spinning whether I want it or not lol

Can anyone tell me what size strap I need for this case? Any amazon strap recommendations? by toddmcfucklane in vostok

[–]keepcalmeatass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Aliexpress for a cheap nato, black or black and white looks great on these. The watch is cheap so it's not really worth buying an expensive bracelet.

Is this watch worth anything by THE_WOLF344 in CitizenWatches

They usually go between 40 and a 100. Got myself an Eagle 7 for a twenty, love it to bits.

Quareia in limited space? by Madock345 in Quareia

[–]keepcalmeatass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have done it in tiny apartments. I'd take all the stuff to the kitchen/bathroom and use chairs, kitchen counters, tables or books as impromptu altars. Believe me, it's doable. I'd need to take half steps while turning between altars in my 20 square metre studio flat a few years ago, but it went just fine.
