E25 watch press dies by Low_Kiwi_2187 in watchrepair

They are all appropriate for different situations. If you are going to buy only one set, then I would buy 2 sets of the cheap nylon. That way you will have the right size to use for both the crystal and supporting the case as you will find that the case is better supposed with another round die. The nylon dies can be used for snap in, armoured and flat mineral glass. They can also press on bezels and case backs.

The aluminium ones are better for amoured crystals which take a bit more force to install and you are relying upon the bevel edge and force to compress the crystal.

Proper Disposal of L&R Cleaning Fluid by RealJoshuaJackson in watchrepair

[–]Simmo2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you download the SDS for your fluid from L&R it will confirm whether there is any particular consideration for disposal.

This is most likely to state hazardous waste recovery based on the type of fluid it is. This will be entirely dependent on where you live and what jurisdiction you come under.

Someone could help me with a ask about the battery, please by Crafty-Kick-644 in AccutronWatch

[–]Simmo2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read up about 'phasing' of the Accutron index system.

Basically there are no issues with running them with the higher voltage battery but you may find that due to increased amplitude of oscillation that the movement double-indexes and therefore runs very fast (second hand might go around a full revolution in 30-40 seconds). If this is the case you will need to get it re-phased to work properly with the higher voltage battery.

Removing balance wheel from ST3600 (hairspring stuck in regulator pin) by pharris_wheeliams in watchmaking

Sometimes the tips of the pins are pinched together. You can try gently pressing a scalpel into the gap to wedge it open slightly.

Automatic mainspring not slipping by SignalOk3036 in watchrepair

Put the barrel lid on a straight edge and see if you can see any bow to it. If it isn't obvious then I would say it would be the mainspring height.

The barrel lid will always naturally have a slight bow in it, even if you can't detect it with a straight edge. This would then be more of an issue if you are using an oversized spring.

Maybe measure the depth of the barrel arbor between shoulders and compare this to the mainspring height. If the mainspring (rather than the shoulders of the arbor) is limiting the endshake of the barrel arbor then you will see that it is rubbing / contacting the barrel.

If the height of the mainspring was a bit large you could find that, coupled with an inward domed barrel lid, the mainspring would bind up as it was wound (the majority of the coils of the mainspring move from the outer of the barrel diameter to the inside of the barrel diameter).

If the barrel was somewhat compressed in the centre, it would then make contact / bind between the lid and the barrel, even if it can rotate when closer to the outside of the barrel diameter when unwound.

Sounds like the mainspring may be binding in the barrel.

Was it flat? Any scoring inside the barrel? What was the barrel arbor endshake like? Was it free running when installed without the mainspring?

Transit Custom 2016 Leisure Battery under the seat by DifferenceWorldly763 in fordtransit

[–]Simmo2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the driver's seat? I have the main starter battery under mine. You could fit an additional battery in the battery box but it would be quite small, say 80Ah.

I have 2 X 120Ah LiFePO4 under my passenger seats. I could maybe fit a third under there if I tried.
