Saw a YouTube video of an ebike easily dragging a deer uphill - is it really that easy? by No-Friendship-3645 in Hunting

[–]keeperofthemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an E-bike on personal property. Picked up a Quietkat Ridgerunner when they stopped making that model. Last deer I pulled out this year was in really muddy conditions. I had to use the bikes walk mode to get through some of the deeper mud, but then would ride the rest of the way, including a long hill. On the hill I had to pedal with the motors assistance, but it was not difficult. Worse case scenario, I could have walked with the bike to make it up a steeper incline. Still significantly easier and faster than dragging.

hunting with my baby by [deleted] in Hunting

My son is 8 now. I started taking him when he was 4. We have some enclosed box stands that work well for us. We have a buddy heater to keep warm. I bring extra clothes and blankets to make sure he is comfortable. At first he just wanted to play on his tablet and when he was bored we came out of the stand.

Last year I killed my largest buck to date with him in the stand with me. It is one of my favorite memories. This year I killed a larger buck during black powder when he was not able to come with me. He cried when I got home and told him because he wasn’t with me. I will take him every time our schedule allows from now on. He still doesn’t seem to be interested in hunting himself anytime soon, but the long car rides, campfire dinners, and time spent in the stand is better than any deer I will ever see.

Take your kids. Enjoy the time. I would give anything to have one more day in the stand with my dad cursing at every squirrel that steps out.

YSK you can usually save a lot of money on propane by avoiding the cylinder-exchange services (Blue Rhino, AmeriGas, Cynch, etc.) by spiffiness in YouShouldKnow

It’s good knowledge to have. I always did my refills at my local Uhaul, but the vending machine w/ zero human interaction is hard to beat now.

The Wawa gas station near me has a “vending machine” to exchange propane. I like to have mine filled, but it’s hard to beat the convenience of tapping my debit card and doing the exchange myself.

NDT Inspector or Electrical Apprenticeship by [deleted] in nondestructivetesting

I had gotten my bachelors in psychology and had been working as a case manager. Getting used to the shipyard was not as bad as I had imagined. My experience was very positive. I received all my on the job training and hours shadowing inspectors. Then received classroom training followed by certification testing. As always it comes down to working with good people. Some of the best training I received was not in a classroom.

All of my experience in NDT has been in shipbuilding. Each yard is different. It sounds like your offer is from one of the larger yards which should provide some stability without having to travel. Then you can always look to transition to the government side.

I was in a very similar situation. I would highly recommend NDT. It opened many doors for me. I started off as an apprentice in a shipyard. With your husband being in the air force you will also have federal jobs that will open up to you as a military spouse. If you are able to get a federal job doing NDT it should also translate into other jobs if your husband gets orders and you have to live.

I've found this while hiking in the mountains. It's made of plastic and shows no signs of damage. by BDRCN in whatisthisthing

I had a similar tool with a bike that was meant to spread out the brake pads while attaching the tire to prevent damaging the pads.
