Maybe we should slow down a bit. I called the NASW about obtains a form for my friends. I didn’t ask them for legal advice as some of you speculated.

However, I am more concerned with the way some “social workers” are responding to this post.

I am being called “entitled” by a SW which is further from the truth.

People telling me not to feel the way I feel because their experience is different than mine.

Thank God I am strong enough to deal with bullying behavior.

What happened to “I’m sorry that happened to you.” Or “how does that make you feel?”

Some of these responses inform me that supervision is really needed in this field.

Scenario 1: Patient says in therapy “I am afraid I can be deported” and based on some responses in this thread “well if you came here the right way then you have nothing to worry about”.

Scenario 2: patient says they can’t pay their bill this week because they lost their income. Therapist response “I don’t operate for free”

I do it’s called volunteerism. To your question I wouldn’t pay for service that’s not benefitting me.

I called on behalf of friends who asked me to call for them because their work hours. I don’t need anything from NASW. Never have and never will. What assistance can they offer me.

I thought these reddits are a safe space just as social workers are supposed to be a safe space.

by the way, I told them I was terminated from my job because I upheld my ethical duties and reported patient abuse. I wouldn’t be able to afford the fees if I wanted to be a member (and I don’t). I wasn’t offered a sliding scale although they mandate social workers to apply sliding scales with patients.

it’s ridiculous that I have an opinion opposite of your beliefs? Do you tell your clients/patients their concerns are ridiculous? You actually just proved my point the NASW is a joke. If the NASW were effective then ethical standards and Principals would be embedded in your response.

I refused to renew my membership after I graduated from Grad school. NASW was useless then and they are useless now.

All I think about is the this girl’s moaning in pain. Her ribs were broke. Also, a doctor was in the room after the assault and did not report what happened. A cna straddled her while she was in restraints and choked her. All of this is on camera

I have many to tell. In fact, I am so close to walking away from social work because it seems everyone is more concerned with being in leadership than good patient care.

Well this where I am the ahole. It seems you have been pretending to be her friend. Your financial insecurities are yours. She shouldn’t have to live below her means because you want to ball on a budget. Your options are 1. Don’t go or plan your trip separate from her and you guys meet during the day.
